Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
IIRC there were a few people in this thread doing babysitting/nannying for extra cash . . . I had my cousin put an ad for me on her moms-in-the-area mailing list and i've already gotten a crap ton of responses.

my question is, i've never done much babysitting, certainly not recently. how much am i supposed to charge??? i would think less because i have less experience . . . but maybe more because i have some education and skills (art, cooking, etc?) should i charge differently for like, full time nannying compared to weekend babysitting? feel free to PM me too

thanks guys. i am off to go post this question in the other thread about jobs too.

What if you got into both Duke and Emory, which would it be then?
As of right now-don't know. Before my Emory interview, I would have chosen Duke without hesitation. It is harder now that I consider full scope of everything involved.

btws....someone told me that I'd be stupid to chose Emory over Duke because Duke is soooo prestigious. I laughed at their one track mind.

hey thanks for that link float! I like some of her comics now i have a new way to waste time at work🙂

even though i think my day at duke med was pretty lame and i didnt enjoy interacting with some of the intense people, i feel like it would be pretty dumb for me to turn down duke because i'm interested in at least doing 1 year of research and they offer that within in 4 year curriculum. the kids down the road at unc were the best group of people i have met though

You can't let your hate for undergrad schools get in your way of good med schools.

...says the guy who didn't apply to UAB because it's in Alabama.

wow i applied for this job in like october and finally got the position but i cant leave my research behind now and its too short of a time. ugh it was 68k too

Yea. That was one of the most appealing parts of Duke. Emory does have like a 6 month "independent study" period at the end of the second year...but it is not as developed.
But I guess this is a future problem, not a current one considering I have not been accepted to either yet.

 my ex gf went there, nothing against her but its been fun to hate on her

its a totally different area from like philly/atlanta though

and apparently, decent % of the duke kids dont go into medicine and do other things (Which is pretty cool but i can see them actin a douchebag about it)

also, anyone interested in public health can do a mph at one of the best schools in the country at unc for like 6-7 k

Peace yo. I gotta go to class then my 7 mile run. ING 1/2 is going DOWN!😀

Maybe for the NYU. I almost would rather go to WSU for the price differential. It would be a really big decision for my fam and I. But I do have this innate passion for teaching in the future so NYU would get me places in academics if I was able to get in...

That's why I just need to get into OSU to make things easier...

lol... of course.

btw what was your #1 before all this met? and what is it now?

ahhh :luck:

Well atleast Baylor stayed intact for you.... and damn i just looked at ur mdapps, you interviewed in friggin sept lol.

I know! It was so long ago. You would think since I received the first round of invites that I'd be higher on their list. I guess everyone else just passed me up.

Yay!! I can finally post in this thread! University of Colorado class of 2014!!! That's all I wanted to say haha

Congrats! 👍

Hey now, what's wrong with Alabama? It is part of the South after all!

wow i applied for this job in like october and finally got the position but i cant leave my research behind now and its too short of a time. ugh it was 68k too

Wow, that's weird that they're just now getting back to you. What was the job for?

What?! You have something against Mississippi too? You're from the South, aren't you?!

Yeah, but I don't like all the states.

Mississippi and Alabama are largely crapholes of NASCAR loving white trash. The gulf coast is the only saving grace. Sorry if I offend anyone.

Louisiana has a lot, too, but the New Orleans and cajun culture keeps it unique.

hmm i'd say probably at least ~$10/hour since you're educated and have some skills. i don't think the hourly rate should differ hugely for nannying vs babysitting, but it definitely should depending on how many kids and their ages. if it's just 1 10yo girl i'd only ask for 9-10 an hour, but for 3 kids or babies i'd say 11-12+. i used to be horrible at asking for a specific hourly rate when i was in high school and would just take whatever they gave me, but i wouldnt recommend that method lol.

And what of Georgia?

I am so bored at work today. Thank goodness I'm going to Vegas tomorrow.

I've never been. I wanted to run the vegas marathon on 3/2 and go with people during their grad school spring breaks but I was too lazy and didn't start training on time

Are you a runner? Have you done a marathon before?

That's awesome. I want to go. Don't think I'll have enough money this summer, since Vegas is a money pit even when you don't gamble.

Yeah, it is. Food there is so expensive. Plus, if you go see any of the shows, tickets are ridiculous too.

I've never been to Vegas but I've never really felt like I'm missing out. I don't like gambling and it seems super expensive so I would rather go to NYC or Toronto and spend money there since they are closer.

'The Hangover' made my desire to go a little higher though... hope the sequel doesn't disappoint !

Yeah, I'm definitely not a gambler. I find it very pointless and the only card game I would like is blackjack.

The Hangover definitely made me want to go. I didn't know there was a sequel.

God, I'm so freaking tired of the media saying the refs gave the Saints the game. Did they even see the ticky-tac calls that extended the Vikings' drives and gave them 14 points? And, oh yeah, they turned it over 5 times - not to mention the 2 fumbles the Saints didn't recover.

We're in the Super Bowl anyway! 😛

You people talk too much while I'm in class. Also, chromatography is boring.

What kind of chromatography? If use you fancy and expensive instruments it can be pretty fun. If it's just for some lab class then yeah I can see that being boring.

nooo no no. I meant my parents.
Oh got it. They don't want you to leave?

So who are the Saints playing in the Superbowl?
