Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, anatomy practical and exam combo.

good luck!

on a separate note, ive heard from friends that most people either totally love or hate anatomy...no in betweeners. agree? if so, which end of the spectrum are you on the issue?

i had this really weird dream that i went to this med school and the upper classmen said they enjoyed anatomy

I agree with the love or hate assesment.

I find myself in the hate camp, mostly because off the mass amount of time lab wastes. It's such an inefficient exercise that it drives me nuts, plus it cuts down on my free time by like 12 hours a week.

Hated it. Dissection is not fun.

well alright...out of my 4 friends in med school, 3 hate it with a passion and one just loves it so much (wants to TA the class for MS1s). seems like most people hate it.

I appreciated the opportunity. But, it became tiresome. A dead body is not equivalent to a live one, for many reasons. Even if you want to go into surgery, dissecting a cadaver isn't going to prepare you. It might disillusion you if you think its equivalent to operating on a live body.

Yeah, I'd heard that they were developing something like that. Pretty cool!
Let's flashback to Panic Room. Jodie Foster's daughter had an insulin watch. There are devices (I don't know if they're fully available yet) that read glucose levels much like a PulseOx reads O2 saturation in the blood. can't be too hard to link them together. But... interesting article.

yea i don't know about automatic dispensing ones but ppl have been working on them for a while. i think you will see them in years

i have a feeling i'll feel the exact same way as you. i hated all undergrad labs and felt like they were just wasting my time. oh well, i guess it's just a right of passage we'll all have to go through!

Wow... was just told about chatroulette dot com... It's.... crazy. Some other RA's and I ended up browsing through it for about half an hour... it was definitely an interesting experience.

a couple of my friends in bme and wharton tried to team up to market some novel idea for blood sugar thing but they didn't get through. i think the financial implications for these devices are obviously huge (the article is also in the business section) so hopefully research and development will be rapid

wtf do they just match you up with some random person?

I think the problem is too, that even if the insulin is tightly controlled you can always have problems. Our first patient perspective was on diabetes and every person that spoke to us with a pump told us... despite being able to control insulin boluses sometimes your body doesn't react as it should. Now, imagine this happening in your sleep. I'm sure it does now with the pump, but even using an algorithm it is bound to happen. They're pretty much rogue sugar readings and they don't happen often, but they do and there is no explanation.

well half an hour was a bit of an exaggeration, but we ended up getting really interesting people.

Though we did turn it off when things got erm.... less appropriate.

This guy in my Herpetology class last year (now an M1 at LSU-NO) had an insulin pump and he never needed to take shots while we were camping or anything. He just needed to make sure he had candy in case he passed out in the forest.

My brother has a pump. He likes it way better than when he gave himself shots. But one that would check his blood sugar would be awesome, since he doesn't do it himself.

what is the purpose of that website. what kind of behavior would be appropriate for that kind of a forum

So what is it?

I don't want to go yet, or at all. I'd rather a summary.

basically its a chat roulette

you go to the website and you are automatically introduced to some random person and you can hear and see each other. i cant think anyone would take it seriously so i can see some net nerds use this for dumb ****
