Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So you can't just get them, there's a waiting list? That's lame.

The way I hear most people talk from LSU-NO, they don't have enough time to pull their noses out of a book and take a crap, much less go to a football game. 🙄

I know!!! The way those tour guides were talking, no one used the tickets they got anyway. Why is there a list??? And I'd so make time. I've never been like a real student in the student section.

You're nuts. Are you one of those people that can't stay still or do the same thing for more than 5 minutes?

A little bit. I definitely have had problems with sitting and studying. I gave up trying to develop a good habit and learned to really enjoy cramming. I'm not hyperactive or anything but I avoid going to lectures because I find them painful in every aspect, esp science ones.

I kinda want to see if I can do anything different from my what my parents do. I don't think I have to talent to, but I'm curious. Medicine is aight though.

One of the open reserved sections in the student section is for the med students and it's never full. 👎

if you aren't into professional sports, I think Penn would be an interesting place to go....

Your parents are both physicians?

yup, academic also. so this process is kinda fun, they stay out of it for the most part unless they are bored though

Nice. No one in my family or extended family is a physician so I kinda went into it blind. I could NEVER be a business man like my father though. I can't be that fake and persuasive.

list of things i want to be:

work undercover for the CIA, be a spy or a badass like jack bauer
be in the air force and do crazy stuff like will smith in independence day
be a sick go-to lawyer like Michael clayton
be like The Notorious
be a gangster, like Tony Montana in scarface (which is why I'm going to miami btw)
be a pro-golfer with a sick life, like tiger woods
lose my identity and try to figure it out like jason bourne
and other things

nip tuck really helped me appreciate medicine though

ouch!

ever consider the music industry?

Hhahaha that wasn't a jab at my dad. He admits that's how it is.

But i've never realistically considered a career in music... only in my dreams. I have produced some beats and stuff but not since I was like 14.

would you rather be doing somethin in music if the opportunity and the same amount of money was easily as possible as in medicine?

If I could be a super successful producer/DJ, yes. I love music so much.

Don't get me wrong, I love science and medicine but how could I realistically pass up the opportunity to travel the world, play music, make people dance and make a lot of money.

To me, medicine was a more realistic goal and one that will make me just as happy in the long run.

Hahaha your post made me revist some of the old stuff I created in high school. I'm sure you can tell why I chose the medicine route

word, really makes you appreciate the people who take chances to enter a field like music/entertainment and are actually polished and successful at it

hmm, thats not my thing, i'm too urbanized

I'm thinking CIA agent.

Secret agent is on my list of fantasy professions. Except I would be terrible because I'm not fluent in 9 languages and I'm not down with killing people. All of these ideas about spy life have come from the tv show Alias from back in the day.

Don't give up yet!!!

 I hope you didn't get hurt, but that's pretty funny.

 the only time i dropped a weight on myself was when i was doing one rep of like a 80 lb barbell total just to stretch out a little bit in between working out my back. i wasnt like trapped or anything, the weight just just collapsed cuz my wrist or arm like turned backwards

it was mad embarassing so i had to randomly do a set of 225 to up my street cred

lol, no I was all good. I had the weight up and was sort of in a half squat position, and then just couldn't stand back up again. I think it was because I had done lots of squats before.

I just got asked to be in a wedding that is November 10, 2012. Planning ahead much??

IDK, I'm def. not against going to one of the LSU's. I still think I'd have fun and like it. And I've become more money conscious as time has gone on.

I've basically come to the conclusion that if any one school is substantially cheaper, I can't really turn that down. I'm stingy, what can I say?

Money is so important, especially after paying back interest.

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I would never do music as a career. You can never truly do what you want unless you do everything yourself. I've seen too many artists go down the fame path and come out differently. I'm all about the music, not the business - and you just can't do that anymore.

Keep drinking buddy... keep those hedgehogs on your mind

and wtf is that?

When I go out dancing, I swear I get the most random/awkward dudes all up on me. I try to get away, but it's hard! They follow me!! I also think I got spanked as I was trying to leave. Tonight was weird.

not for the weak

Did you have fun at least?

i def dont wanna be with a doctor. i want someone completely opposite, if at all. like... a murderer?

guyski's lucky, he got a journalist, that's gonna be an exciting life w/ good conversations and stuff
Yeah, I'm not looking to hook up with any my fellow med students. Too much drama potential.

grad school has some perks
It does, lots of free snacks.

My entire lower and left side of my jaw are completely numb.... Got cavities filled for the first time ever 🙁 I managed to make it 23 years and then I had 3... Granted one was in my baby tooth and they're not really meant to survive this long.
You have baby tooth after 23 years?

unless we get to search again, then it is worth it.
Yay! search is back. Now I can stop responding to all the where the hell is the search funtion threads.

We have some stupid girls here that will wear miniskirts with Ugg boots and parkas. 👎

Also so many of our girls here dress like slobs and just wear nike running shorts with leggings when it's cold. That doesn't create warmth.
Everyone at my ugrad dressed like slobs. I'm guility of it to, but it was weird to visit my friends at other schools and see the way different school cultures.
Who's ready for summer!?

 It came out of nowhere here. It was a pretty nice day when I entered the lecture all and after the test there was snow flying everywhere.
Bleargh, why do you want the storm to hit us???

I can't belive how much more snow than us you east coast guys have gotten. We've probably had less than 20 inches all winter, which is nothing. Granted different cities, but the last place I live wasn't too far away and we got 80 last winter.
Nice. No one in my family or extended family is a physician so I kinda went into it blind. I could NEVER be a business man like my father though. I can't be that fake and persuasive.
My whole family is business people. Not a bad background to have IMO, alot of docs/med students/pre-meds have zero business sense.

i loved that show!!

ugh that's the worst!

sammich-sorry you're sick🙁 hope it goes away soon

things i want to be:

-a dancer for the nyc ballet, or any other professional ballet company
-an olympic figure skater, or really any other olympic athlete
-amy gardner from the west wing, or any other character on the west wing
-a person that can give a lot of money to anti-poverty nonprofit organizations (since i'm tired of actually working at one of these organizations ), and a philanthropist in general
-a lobbyist for anti-poverty causes in washington
-a doctor in a low-income neighborhood with knowledge about the specific issues my patients face within the public benefits system
-a mommy

i'm thinking the list gets more realistic as it goes on

First one in 23 years? Nice! i get like 7 lined up each time i visit my dentist or at least every year for the past couple years 😛

i have been working on getting some kind of pay for 5 get 2 free kind of deal 😉
I have not had a single cavity since I was 5. My brother routinely gets like 10 though, so I guess it evens out over the family. Haven't used my dental insurance but once- to pay for my wisdom teeth. Haha the eyecare package is also useless for me since my vision is perfect....so I just use my glasses allowance to get supa cool sunglasses for free!

i find it to be the total opposite, i find wayyyyy more girls in shorts or skirts in freezing weather

maybe we just notice the opposite gender more
what is wrong with wearing a skirt in winter if you wear stockings esp?

my parents just say the opposite of whatever i say

me: mom, i think i'm gonna hit up miami for med school
mom: what the **** are you gonna do about all your loans. miami is expensive, go the md phd route

me: yea i think life would be so much easier if i went md/phd. some research is actually pretty interesting
dad: man, **** your research. 4 years of phd = 4 years of money lost as a doctor
My mom thankfully does not pretend to know anything about how medicine works in US. But she is pretty good at keeping me sane through this process. lol
:laugh::laugh:
My parents are just oblivious to the whole situation but supportive. They don't really know what's going on right now at all . Ohhh parents.
My mommy knows most everything about my side of the experience. Other than the fact that I didn't get into Emory this week. That would break her heart cause she knows how badly I want those last two schools I am waiting on. sigh. cannot keep this up for long though.
I'm pretty sure I'm actually dying.
oh im sry sammich, you've been fighting this one a while too!

When I go out dancing, I swear I get the most random/awkward dudes all up on me. I try to get away, but it's hard! They follow me!! I also think I got spanked as I was trying to leave. Tonight was weird.
yikes. some guys just do not take subtle/not so subtle clues.

off to the airport!

my flight to new york was cancelled last night and it didn't even end up snowing there.

stupid meteorologists.

if anyone's in nyc in the next few days, hit me up with a PM

So, I'm back from San Antonio... quite a hassle. The practice anatomy practical ran late, and then in my hurry to make up time, I managed to lock myself out of my condo. I then find out that ownership does not actually have an emergency key, so after much cursing and swearing, I have to call a locksmith. He takes 90 minutes to get there and spends 3 minutes actually unlocking my door, and charges me $75.

😡😡😡😡😡

So, I still make it to San Antonio a little after 9, and luckily I guessed exactly right when I called the restaurant to change my reservation, as we walk in literally at the exact time I changed it to. Fortunately, the food was amazing, and hey, it was our anniversary, so even after all the BS throughout the rest of the day, I guess it was all worth it 🙂

Anyways, made it back to Houston... need to study... but considering all the driving I've done and the sleep I didn't get, I need to 😴

Sweet I won the magnets for submitting interview feedback. Didn't even know that was possible.

Ugh got to airport too early.

The latest official snow total at Philadelphia International Airport came in at 26.7 inches, beating the Dec. 19-20 storm by better than 3 inches and making it the second-biggest Philadelphia snow in the period of record.

Oh no doubt... if you want a private practice then you need to be business oriented and skills would be very helpful. I just couldn't have business be the ONLY thing I did as I would go insane. I need some science in my life. (That sounded so nerdy.)
