How have Tiger Woods's mysterious car accident, rumors of separation with his wife, and months of silence affected consumers' views of him? According to a recent study by the NPD Group, consumers—especially younger people—are still buying (and in some instances buying more) Woods-related products.



The NPD Group surveyed 44,000 consumers between December 16 and January 5 to see if Woods's scandal affected their purchasing habits. "The good news for Tiger is that basically, 89 percent of consumers said they have no intention of changing their behavior based on his actions," says Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at the NPD Group and author of the study.
Some consumers said their view of Woods has been affected, but many said they still buy products associated with Tiger. Only 31 percent of respondents said they have a much lower opinion of Woods today than before his driving accident (compared with 44 percent who said their view hasn't changed), while 23 percent of respondents said they purchased products that they recognize are endorsed by or associated with Tiger Woods. "That scores more than twice as high as almost any other celebrity-endorsed range of products," Cohen says.
The study also found that Woods is much more popular among young people. Only 5 percent of respondents said they plan to cut back or eliminate any products that Woodhttp://www.usnews.com/money/busines...still-supporting-tiger-woods-study-says.html#s endorses, and most of that group is made up of respondents age 45 or older, according to Cohen. Ironically, 2 percent of respondents (primarily those ages 18 to 25) said they actually planned to buy more Woods-related products. "The power of Tiger is still substantially greater than almost any celebrity out there today," Cohen says. "The guy is like a superhero. Yeah, he got close to the kryptonite, but it didn't take him down."

Jackson declined to comment on the Jamison trade when he was asked about it at Thursday's shoot-around, quipping, "I don't care about that," and dodged two more questions about it in his pregame media session before not being able to bite his tongue any longer.
"They're going to get Ilgauskas back and it's going to be one of those scenarios that we see in the NBA where you ship a player out, you get another player, then your player retires or they pay him off and then he comes back in 30 days," Jackson said. "I don't know what that does for the league. I think that's kind of a weird situation."
Rivers agreed with Jackson, even though the loophole has helped his team in the past.
"I have a problem with that," Rivers said before Thursday's Lakers-Celtics game at Staples Center. "I loved it three years ago when we did it with Gary Payton if you remember, but now I think it sucks. I think it's a terrible deal."
Rivers and the Celtics traded Payton to Atlanta in March 2005 for Antoine Walker and Payton returned to Boston after being waived by the Hawks.
"I actually do have a problem with that though. We did it, and I'm joking, but I do think [it's a problem]. I don't know what you do [maybe] just not allow them to go back to the same team or whatever. ... I do think that will be changed eventually, but I do have a problem with it."

Its funny that you're so obsessed with someone's personal life (no real meaningful life of your own, I'll assume). You (meaning the greater majority of people here) dug him the whole time he was doing it (or didn't care about him one way or the other). But now that the cats out of the bag he's completely different person who deserves to have everything taken away (que the "ohhhh but he's a role model" crew)?

I totally agree. I obviously have my opinion as well. I guess I shouldn't have quoted you as your taking it rather personal (even though I put in quotes that I was speaking to the majority of posters here who have similar options as yourself).

I'm not really "dishing it". I haven't made any offensive statements towards you, nor has anyone else that regularly posts here, because we won't stoop that low.

I'm a little put off that you think that 1) I will make a poor doctor because I'm judgmental and 2) I have no (meaningful) life. But I have no idea who you are and frankly could care less.

I shouldn't have specifically quoted him, that was a mistake. I was giving my opinion on (all) people who judge (more specifically all people who are judging Tiger based on this isolated incident). Opinions are a fine line, I can see how you might interpret my thoughts as judgments. I stand by my post and I'm done defending it.

So maybe I'm missing something here, but why is it a bad thing to change your opinion of someone based off new information about him/her? If you found out the chemistry teacher you loved in high school was an axe murderer, wouldn't that change your opinion of him?

I'm not equating what Tiger did to murdering people with axes (in fact, I actually think the whole thing was way overblown, considering that in the long list of things that stars have done, his was relatively tame [lol tame tiger]), I mean, there's people who have beaten their wives and gotten less flak for it!

But yeah, it's almost like he got punished more because he was so highly regarded before -- you know, the higher you are, the harder you fall
