Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for that Bob!

So Mandible, grades are pretty low, but things like academic awards, class rank, AOA, and honors grades are high up there...

So basically "be awesome" lol.

YOU ARE AWESOME. lol

One thing my friend told me (recently match neurosurge at a top 10) is that personality and social skills can make a huge difference especially in the competitive residencies. I dont know if he is overstating it but he made an interesting point. Pick your electives well and put on the charm and hard work. lol

i like these awesomeness criteria's 👍

and if i med school doesn't stress us so much we can be more awesome than usual 😀

VCU is percentage is that any diff than grades? & even if schools are completely P/F wouldn't there be an internal ranking for residency?!

We're not graded officially until clinicals, so if you want to make AOA, you have to distinguish yourself outside of class and on the wards.

Jla, bleargh, and I are doing a wii night tomorrow. Assuming jla gives the okie dokie, wanna join and make a pretty awesome boston meet-up?

Is AOA basically the National Honor Society of med school?

I heard that every school's requirements are different, though. So if you aren't ranked for preclinicals, you have to do a crapload of ECs and be a beast in clinicals? That's lame - ECs shouldn't effect an honor society thing, especially in med school.

I think it's just that each school can only have a certain percentage of their class as members. So if everyone is rocking it, they have to pick whoever is extra-rocking it.

Sammie,
That sounds AWESOME!!! Problem with tomorrow night, if you guys end up making it next week count me in FO SHO.

Blue,
Waiting to hear back from BU. Doing a double at work today. Up at 4.. Long day at the Hospital and its soo freakin nice out.

Met,
Thats because you bring out the best in us. 😎 lol

So I think it shows my sleep deprivation at how amused I was by this (and the fact that I accidentally just spelled that 'amuzed' first...)

Where did George Washington keep his armies?

In his sleevies.

I am sleep deprived too but I dont know what you mean..😕

Ok I guess it's about that time for me to ask the stupid questions about when to study and whatnot for the USMLE's... When do you guys plan on starting?

You really shouldn't even be considering this...at all. Many people spend about 3-8 weeks studying for this at the end of their second year. People who are work-a-holics like myself reviewed certain subjects earlier in their second year, but very sporadically. How could you start to study when you don't know anything? The most important (by far) subjects for the boards you won't even have till second year anyway.

Thanks 🙂 I definitely wasn't thinking of starting now or anytime soon, I just didn't know the time frame. Is it really only a few weeks?

back to important topics im supposed to take two additional classes since my school had a condensed ochem for two quarters, but I dontttttt want to take it!!!!! i know my friend at BU asked them last minute and they let her not take it but I dont know if I should wait that last minute since next quarter starts monday :annoyed:

My advice,

Play it safe. But the safe play has outs. Check it. Deff register for the classes, so you dont kick yourself later and ruin your last summer. Go to them etc. We will be hearing from BU anyday now, if you get in THEN ask them and if they say they dont care.. DROP. If they do you already covered your arse.

:laugh::laugh:

It's about to get testical up in this b!tch.

I vow to destroy this test. Hopefully.

Unfortunately, it matters a little bit more now with my 👎 on that other test.

😆 😆 😆

I looked at that first line very quizzically for longer than I care to admit.

edit: and also, good luck. 😀 :luck:

I wish I could take a nap so bad. It's nap weather too outside, which makes the napping even better.

i know i probably should, there are some issues though:

1. I already graduated so i have to add to the class/ might might not work
2. I still have to take a different version than one I told them i will cuz thats for chem majors and im not feeling it 😛

excuses I have and i donno which one sounds better but they're all true

1. i took two quarters of biochem so they can substitute that maybe
2. i did super well in ochem and it covered everything plus i tutored it for 3 years and have a letter from that professor so really taking another quarter is just stupid
3. im working like crazyy and i think i learn more from work at this point

try calling your schools (not just bu) about substituting with a diff class first. you can do it anonymously or just have a friend call and ask. i helped a friend ask a school if they care if she finishes her masters degree, for example.
