Well, one kinda funny question was that they asked me if I lived in a mansion. Of course, I said no, but I told them my house was super old and haunted. And that led to a ghost story-telling session, which was fun but very random. :laugh:

Hmmm... I feel like they'd be too long to type out, and I'm feeling a little lazy today. Besides, you'd miss my intonation, expressions, and scary story-telling skills if I were just to type it out. Maybe on our 2014er trip. 🙂

Last time I went to volunteer with elementary kids, it was for this science experiment program.

There was this one kid kept asking me questions like:

Would you eat a house?
Would you eat a coat?
Would you eat a car?

etc. etc.

I found it amusing...

ha, id prolly get tired of it and tell him yes, you CAN eat a car, just put some salt on it and lick it, and itll taste just like salt! i actually tried to eat rocks that way when i was a kid :laugh:

So to kind of explain what happened: the Pre-Allo mods and admins have been talking over the "off-topic" issue. We came to the conclusion that the only fair way to do this was to move all the "off-topic" threads into another forum. The PA mods felt that the Lounge was the best place because there's more traffic there, and because we wouldn't have to worry about moderating them there. Unbeknowst to us, SDN legal informed the admins that the Lounge must be closed due to legal issues, (if you go in there, I think you can see that it's a mess). We found this out post-moving the thread to the Lounge, so we moved the off-topic threads to All-Students which was the next best option.

So sorry everyone. I wanted to stay in PA too, but it's for the best of SDN to keep it this way.

Wait so this is actually permanent? I'm not sure if I will believe this until tomorrow comes around....

But if so, that's BS. I understand that off-topic threads don't belong on Pre-Allo, but the Class Threads should stay.

We'll see, I'm still believing that this is an April Fool's thing.

WashU - fiancee accepted and loves it, me WL'd and probably rejected

UChicago - $90k over four years, fiancee rejected.

Northwestern - $100k over four years, fiancee didn't interview.

Iowa - Even my cash-strapped state school offers $40k over four years. Fiancee accepted, but their pharmacology program is terrrrible and is her last choice.

Pittsburgh - We're both accepted and we both liked it, but they don't release aid packages until late April/early May, which is AFTER her April 15th deadline to decide on a grad school. 😡

UMich - Both accepted, both absolutely loved the school... $0 in merit aid. Zip. Nada. $200k+ in debt? No thanks.

What am I supposed to do? 🙁

I'd call Pitt and see if there's any possible way they can get you your package early. That's a pretty crucial thing to know.

can your fiancee go to st louis and you to iowa? its like 260 miles away, i think that would be somewhat feasible (if you drive)

Is your fiancee's program free? That will help a lot. Too bad yall are both applying and stuff, or else you could just go to the cheapest place. :laugh:

Last year they had a pretty good one. SDN had been having server issues, and on april 1st they said the huge chat room like threads were killing all the bandwidth and had to be deleted. So they mock deleted them. It was pretty believable considering the server had been sucking for like a month coming up to it.

Last year we deleted the c/o 2013 which was way more funny than this. This is just upsetting. Trust me, this isn't a joke. Obviously, we should have thought about what day it was before planning the day to put this new policies into action. Our b.

pretty sure her program is free + stipend 26-30k (maybe more with a F32)

What I would do: I would bug Pitt to get me stuff before April 15 so I could make a decision. If they don't, I'd go to Iowa, have the fiancee go to WashU and then bug WashU like crazy to get off the waitlist. They seem to love people who love them and there is pretty decent WL movement, so I think you'd have a great shot. And unlike at Michigan, they give some pretty significant need based aid, so it's not like you'd be locking yourself into extreme debt. Then again, maybe Michigan will still come through.

Chicago to the Louie if i remember correctly is about 4.5 or 5 hours.

Stein, what is more important to you? Living with your fiancee, or you both being happy with your programs/finaid and still being proximal?

4-5 hours isn't so bad!! It's manageable! I mean, don't get me wrong, I acknowledge that it will be tough, but it's still feasible.
