Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That wouldn't be cool with me. I wash stuff like immediately after I use it.
yeah, this is the best way to do things

a few summers ago I lived with someone for a few weeks and we had very little silverware, which forced us to clean things really quickly so we could reuse it. it actually ended up working out pretty well

That sounds good. I did this last year.

Now we have about 294857348758673645 pint glasses, so they just use about 4 or 5 per day for water and just let them pile up. It sucks.

Excellent.

I can't believe that after all this work, I could very likely end up at my state school. Nothing wrong with it, but it is kind of frustrating. I really thought I was going to escape out into the big bad world outside of Iowa. 😉

Anybody have an out-of-stater's opinion to offer on the strength of the biomedical research done at Iowa? Or any specific departments?

I had a feeling Dayton was going to win...

I have no opinion other than I am a huge Tate fan and therefore a huge Iowa State fan. Lets. Go. Hawkeyes.

It snowed like crazzzy here today. and lightening. and thunder.....yeah for warming the globe!

i think the opinions of those in the field might be more worthwhile then most of us who dont know much 🙂. Ill be honest Iowa doesnt mean much to me in that field but being in cali, i obvi am west coast biased. I think regardless whats best for you and your wife is best. Im in a similar situation and might have to turn down what i truly want for the needs of my family and attend a school that im truthfully not thrilled with but in the end its not a huge deal 🙂.

Okkkk, it's not April 1 anymore. Joke's over hahaha. It took way too much effort to find this forum. I like how everyone on all-students right now is basically in this thread. I don't, however, like how it's still in all-students.

absolutely amazing and the mentoring is great. good chance of seeing a nobel prize come out of there

Iowa City, for a small city, has a lot of HHMI investigators, (4 is a high number) which is a sign of pretty distinguished research. 3 are in the National Academy of Sciences. Some are in Society for Clinical Investigation. I think its a pretty impressive track record, FSAP can tell you more, he is going to be doing MSTP there.

Michigan, WashU, Pitt and the Chicago schools are post-doc driven research institutions. Because of the location, Iowa doesn't recruit the best post docs well (they usually go to big cities), therefore a good amount of research is being done by graduate students, which is a plus for your fiancee.

National Academy of Sciences member gets 2-5 articles for publication per year in PNAS, a top science journal, without review (honor code). If your fiancee participates in one of those labs, she will be golden and she won't be sharing the spotlight behind tons of post-docs.

I've attended seminars by Dr. Welsh (cystic fibrosis) and I know his research is extremely comprehensive and innovative and he seemed like a really down to Earf guy.

Not sure if there is a better school than Iowa per dollar spent on tuition. Its great for primary care as well.

Iowa seems great, I decided not to interview there because I didn't interview anywhere after december that didn't buy me the ticket without asking. Its ranked 31st (i think its better than that) in research and 10th in primary care, if you care about that.

its not michigan. michigan is great and has been around longer. their tuition also hiked 5.6% this year (above average), and expect that trend to go on. housing market is prime though

That's how I feel. Except I don't have the amazing acceptances that you have. I would like to enter the big world outside of Louisiana, but it might not happen.

But I still have a shot at the 4th biggest city in the country. :xf:

I mean, technically you can, but you are taking your gf into consideration, which makes things more difficult. You had a great cycle regardless of where you go. 👍

if i was deciding graduate schools, it would go

1. average time to complete phd
2. responses/attitudes of people who work w/ PIs that you are interested in (average time spend in the lab)
3. time spent in the lab and productivity returns
4. # of publications (good ones)
5. # of people in the lab/department - nature of the department and its people
6. post-doc/grad student work ratio/interaction and the % of english speaking post-docs/grad students
7. living cost
8. stipend

from all the PIs that i talked and interviewed with, I got the sense that UCSD and its affiliation is the worst program to do a PhD with

Are they over-worked?

whens the fantasy baseball draft btw

Saturday.

wow mlb.com is offering $3 million for their beat the streak contest

although nobody has come all that close in 10 years so they probably think they're pretty safe

I just got Google Chrome. I'm totally digging it, and my Dale Chihuly theme.

Are things going to go back to normal midnight Pacific time? I'll be up, waiting for change.

I tried Google Chrome once. I still like Firefox better. The adblock plugin is better on firefox and pages seem to load a little faster

Whassup everyone. :hello:

I hate having to go to all-students to get to this. When I become a doctor I'm gonna do something about this.

Random question: I feel the need to gauge where I am currently as far as MCAT goes, so I can have an idea, but I don't want to take another one of the AAMC tests, so what are the most realistic full lengths I can take?

P.S. I'm way too lazy to use the search function and I am trying to watch the Punisher.

I like it so far. I used to use Firefox, but then it messed me up one time and I never looked back.

How many AAMC exams have you taken? They truly are the best indicator. Everything else, I think, is crap.

Wow. This clicking and dragging a new tab to make a new window thing is nifty.

yeah I think more than anything else I've just gotten so used to firefox that switching now is hard

Google Chrome is nice. I love firefox though.

I took one of the free AAMC exams before physics and got a 12 BS/11 VR/10 PS.

I want to see where I will be going into this year since the only pre-reqs I have left are Physics II and Physics Lab.

I know it's springtime when I realize how big my school is because everyone is everywhere outside: breakdancing, jammin on the guitars, skimpy clothing, more skateboarders than usual. I haven't been told I'm going to hell for a while by religious fanatics so my week feels a little incomplete.

I'd save the AAMC exams leading up to the actual exam. I never took TPR but I've heard those are pretty good. I did some Kaplan and they suck.

Ew, I just ate Ramen for the first time in a while and I feel disgusting.

This whole April Fool's day thing is messing me up, with this thread moving and all. I don't know what's what anymore. I'm so confoosed.

This makes campus feel so much sexier. Like, it's as if all of the girls turned into models today.

P.S. thanks for the advice and you are probably going to hell.

I guess it's just a slow night in general. I'm rambling. Perhaps tonight will be THE night I go to bed early....

haha yeah right.

Thanks 🙂 Complete week? Check!

No seriously, according to my religion your bound for hell if you aren't a believer.

Today my mormon teacher talked about how he wanted to be buried with a spoon to represent that the afterlife was like desert and the best was yet to come. Someone yelled out, "There is no afterlife!" It was quite a site.

You know girls who wear short shorts but really shouldn't be wearing short shorts? Yeah, they come with the warmer weather too.

Haha. Those girls are invisible to me. I'm too busy staring at the dime pieces. OU has some hotties. It's a damn shame the douchebags that these girls date.

Oh, ****. That's ok, you can keep the thank you.

k, finishing the punisher, then going to sleep, g' nite y'allz.

Be careful throwing the s word around these parts.

G'night oakland.

Looks like I'm hogging this entire page. And there isn't even a need to bump this thread since we'll prob be first for an entire week if we stick around in all-students...

But we're not...right, mods?

Toodlez.
