Omg I know. I had to change into a t shirt earlier because it was so lovely but then I was just freezing and caught in the beginning of this storm on the way home.

the 6 antigen match checks out the DR locus of MHC II and the B,A loci of MHC I. 6 because you have a copy from each parent, obviously. this is usually good enough for a solid organ transplant, but in bone marrow they do a FULL match of all MHC loci to minimize graft vs host disease where the donor lymphocytes attack the host. LOTS of tests... PCR, 1 way MLR, crossmatching, etc etc etc

yay i have finally managed to make SDN useful

'Tis time for me to leave work! Thank goodness. It's so pretty outside. I'm glad I'll get to enjoy at least a little bit of it before sunset!

Oh so the odds are still pretty small of me being a good enough match?

Though apparently I could give this kid my kidney.

yea you still have to match in the DP, DQ, and C loci. marrow transplants now for the donor is essentially painless though. they just shoot you up with some factors to stimulate leukocyte progenitors and just collect it from your blood.

If I didn't have my chick avatar what would I be?

ud still be a chick. ur the earliest to start med school, like the rooster at dawn, ur title said i am a [chick], and u get emotional easily, kinda chicken little ish

ooo, ure donating bone marrow? heard it kinda hurts!
Depends on the way they extract it.

And I'm unsure if I'm actually donating. I initially matched this kid but they just took all the blood out of my body to find out if I'm really a good match.

cheetahs seem like they'd be running divas.

i don't know if that means that a running diva would be a cheetah, though

i could do cheetah. its logical.

an ostrich runs fast but they aren't diva-esque. divas never bury their heads in the sand. 👎
