thanks all! I have officially no lingering doubts about where I should go for med school. I hope we can all feel that way soon.

Fo realz.

Today was another not-so-great day in terms of Baylor junk (last year the waitlist was made April 29th, so if that holds true my time has run out). And on top of that, I have a test tomorrow.

Hi everyone!

Not going to multiquote bc I'm on my phone but:

Nice dress ksmi!

so as far as electives and scheduling goes:

In my opinion this is one of the more important things to look at when considering schools, but the actual amount of electives during 3rd and 4th year or whatever aren't essential bc even if you have a "core" class usually you'll have a specialization built in or they'll make it quasi transitional so you'll see a few things. What elective time is useful for 4th year is interviews, you'll need to set aside about a month for that.

How my schedule is shaking out (and this is sorta common)

m3:

ob
peds
1 month off (taking two weeks for a conference and a vacation and 2 weeks for a two week radiology rotation that you have to do 3rd year)
primary care
holidays
medicine
surgery (1 mo general, 1 mo subspecialty)
psych
1 month off (anesthesia for 2 weeks, conference for two)
first extramural away rotation
1 month elective here (radiology)
2nd month extramural away
eras submitted now
1 month medicine sub I
1 month radiology elective
1 month off for research (for interviews)
holidays
2 weeks research (interviews if necessary)
1 month preceptorship
6 weeks neurology
1 month preceptorship
two weeks off, then graduation!

The most important things to remember and that you need are ~5 weeks to study for step, time for 4th interviews, and time to do aways. My school just has the two preceptorships, medicine sub I, and neuro required 4th year but mandates that you do another 2 months of clinical work in the state.

hey drizzt! golly, all that has to fit into 1 year? no wonder the 1st/2nd years say that the 3rds just drop off the face of the earth. easy to see now that its in black and white.

2 days of work left!!!!!!!

(i'll probably come in this weekend to work for free/do my poster all weekend and next week)

Cats are awesome btw, if they don't like you or vice versa, it just means you're not holy enough to be bestowed their grace :meanie:

Oh my bad, that's for 3rd and 4th year, m4 starts right before the first extramural away rotation, I'll edit it later!

This year I have two more weeks, 3 more tests, 2 conferences, 5 weeks of step study and the exam and about two weeks vacation!

you will just be a busy bee! what type of conferences do you go to?

eh walk howard, had an open base. not the end of the world. jeez, bases juiced, 2 outs.

Seems like every single time I start paying attention to a Giants game Brian Wilson blows a save.

Radiology/neurorads/medical physics, although the one I just got back from was a conference for med student research.

oh very cool. i assume that those are red options?

Why wouldn't Brian Wilson give up his first ERs and BS the first time he plays after I get him on my fantasy team... oh wait, that DID happen. 😡

Yeah I'm pretty set on rads assuming I don't fail the step haha

haha, well that's not happening. you might have to ban yourself from here during step studying, though. 🙁

walk of shame back to dugout for wilson.

just need a ball to get out of the infield, preferably on the ground.

Yeah I just turned on the ESPN gamecast to see Wilson give up that double.

And last year I remember turning on the tv to find him walk in the winning run against the Dodgers.
