Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
blobby bob, you are very fond of quoting yourself. I'm not quite sure what that might mean.

Damn, it's not even 2 yet. It felt like it was nearing 4. The night is still young!

Have you been checking out the Fb group (the school, not 2014)? People have been posting about places, along with upperclassmen looking for roommates.

i haven't yet.. wasn't sure if i should start now or when i come back but now i dont think thats enough time..

completely false. typical playoff-time infatuation & hyperbole by media & bahbah fandom

But he does it EVERY YEAR at the playoffs... and he's a significantly better defender than the other candidates.

I'm not sure if he's the best, but he's gotta be in the conversation, no? Paul is always injured, Nash is a product of his system and a terrible defender... about the only reasonable argument that I think could be made would be Deron Williams, but he hasn't shown the ability to just take over games and will his team to winning like Rondo has.

oh absolutely in the conversation, but with a strong eye towards projected development.. Nash is indeed a TERRIBLE defender. it's so arbitrary to define these anything, as you know already. in my mind, there are some 'classic' things a point guard needs to do -

1) Defend (I wouldn't argue against Rondo being the best defensive PG right now, esp. if we factor in his ridiculous rebounding)
2) Direct the offense (definitely in the convo)
3) Be a scoring threat, both driving to the basket (getting good at it) and jump shooting mid-range, and from 3 if possible.

I don't need to point this out, but Rondo's jump shots still don't scare anyone.. If his FTs improved (like his playoff level right now) in the regular season, that would be pretty big, IMO. Also, I don't know if it's fair to consider injuries in the "best in the league" convo. No Rose in your PG elites?

How high do you have him, then? Like I said, right now I don't think you can put him any lower than 2nd.
it's also easier to play when you have 3 all-stars on your team. all of the PGs you put up there get attention, Rondo still flies under the radar

Eh... regardless of how he scores, he gets his (50.8% from the field this year). His free throws could sure use work, but obviously it's easy to point out a glaring fault in any of these guys' games, or at least a place where they don't quite measure up to the rest.

his jump shooting is terrible, and it's not just by comparison to his excellence in other areas. sure it's improved this year, but it's not to the point where it gets respect. he's left wide open so often. that to me says 'not the best.' his free throws are similarly terrible. Rondo also has lots of stretches (not much in the playoffs though) where he just kind of loses focus and gets way cutesy with the ball.

outside of the top 5
Wooooow. I mean, I can MAYBE see Paul, Nash, Williams, maybe Rose... who else? I don't consider Tyreke Evans a point guard...

But it also means his stats are somewhat depressed because the other three all stars are also getting theirs and he doesn't have to play as many minutes to keep his team above water in the regular season.

I don't know. But I've said for a long time that you can't win a title without at least a top 5-10 guy in the league on your team (2004 Pistons being an exception due to the Lakers' injuries). Rondo is the best player on this Celtics team, so... it at least makes me think about these things.

pretty spot on.

yeaa i was making the list. He is in the 3-5 range

he still played like 37 minutes a game, because the celtics don't really have a backup PG. the 3 stars lets him get those assists and opens up driving lanes. just my opinion..

celtics haven't won the title yet. and even though pierce, allen and KG aren't top 10 anymore, put them together, and when they're on fire they're as unstoppable as it comes

is Pau Gasol the best 2nd option in the league?
Without question. Dude's just amazing on both sides of the ball.

Only thing is that it's a little hard to evaluate when you compare to the Suns, as Nash is technically I guess the second option on that team. But if you called Amare the 2nd option, I'd take Pau in a heartbeat. Carter was also in this conversation until he did confirm that he does indeed lack a heart. One of Parker/Ginobili is also still up there, as is Boozer. But I think Pau is a cut above all of those.

haha, so many of my friends quote that when I say 'this is madness'..which is pretty frequently.

Then it usually goes to "This is delicious!"
Brush your teeth!
what would you say is a great PG?

like Jason Kidd in his prime?
I don't think in terms of "great PGs" as much as I think of "great players," ie, "If this guy is your best player, you have a legit chance of winning a title." Thinking that way, I'd say Kidd in his prime would count. 2005 Nash would also be in that category. Stockton, Payton, etc. I don't see any of these current PGs, today, as being on that level.

Which raises an interesting point, because as much respect as I have for Rondo, I don't see him on that level. So either my theory is flawed, or he's a lot better than we all think (because of defense and other things we maybe can't measure), or maybe this Celtics team is really just unique.

If they do, in fact, win the title.

That's a legit point.

Kinda want to post something "your mom" related in the "What would you do differently" thread, but I'll resist the urge.

Sammich, how nice of a car do you need? I'd pitch in...I don't know, up to $20 on an internet friend. I'd up the amount, but I need to get some financy things in order before school starts.

haha, it's a start!

I'll hopefully find a corolla or something for about 3,000. Yayyy student loans.

So I just joined another internet forum - the one for xkcd to just intermittently post. (this is how much I don't know what to do with the free time I have for the next 2 weeks)...

Anyway, one of the rules of the forum is no double posting. Which made me giggle so much and think of all the +pad+ ing of this place.
