So I have been bouncing back and forth rather unpredictably between being productive and unproductive for the past week... I'm either super duper productive and get lots done, or I'm super duper unproductive and get absolutely nothing done. No middle ground haha...

average is what matters; pft @ size of deviation

White Sox are solely in 1st after taking 25 out of 30 games and being 9.5 games back a month ago. They've picked up 13 games on the Twins in a month! 😱

The only thing I have against the white coast ceremony is the coat itself. The ceremony is cool. But I've spent all summer in the hospital and the short coats just look so ridiculous compared to real ones!!

I agree, Luckily no one on ob ever wears theirs so I don't either! Haha, I'm sure I'll have to in outpatient though 🙁

why's everyone hatin on the (short) white coat? It still looks super awesome to me... [better than wearing a damn suit to work every day 😡]

It is pretty weak sauce how late med schools disperse loan $$$. Moving, new furniture + first months rent/deposit add up quick.

Forrealz.

This. I'm thankful I didn't have to move but man, I feel bad for my classmates that did. It's not like you can wait to secure housing and the like until the $$$ makes its way to your bank account.

Definitely. I already payed for all that stuff, but that emptied me out and now I have to really pinch pennies to be able to pay my August rent. If the check doesn't come by August 25th like it should, then I'm completely screwed.

In case you are interested... There's a really neat program on MSNBC right now about this huge class action case against a biomedical tissue collection corporation.

Just wanted to say it took every ounce of strength to not post "pics or it didn't happen" in the vagina thread.

If you play Danger Zone and walk in slow motion while you're wearing it, maybe.

... dude - this is BRILLIANT. Then I can take off my white coat to reveal my pilot suit underneath. Man; these are the times I regret not getting my pilot's license a few years ago 🙁 Well, I guess I'm going to have to do something while I'm in med school... maybe I'll start up on my pilot's license :meanie:

Yea seriously... you'd think they'd have thought about this - especially for the first years

ooo what company? And wth did they do!? (yes I'm too lazy to turn on my tv 😛 )

🤣 😆

dude - that's freakin lame 👎

Haha well, you missed the show anyway, so I'll go ahead and tell you what I gathered from it. The company was called Biomedical Tissue Services, and they would harvest bones and tissues from cadavers at funeral homes and would sell them for transplants. However, they did so without the consent of the families, which apparently, they didn't have to legally. They would charge a "recovery fee" to the funeral homes for permission to harvest the body parts. Anyway, the real reason why it went to court at all was because this company did not screen the cadavers before selling the parts for transplant, so for example, they would harvest bones from a person who died from bone cancer and sell them for bone or cartilage transplants. People would get the transplants and would die or get very sick because diseases would also be transplanted. Anyway, it was all very interesting, and the people who owned and operated the company ended up going to prison for what they did. I think I remember a Law and Order episode was based on this...

I find people in med school to have really high standards (or the mdphd program). people dont save any money at all here. thats ****ed up. save some money. then it starts a peer pressure on living standards since its such a small program. like you have to live in this part of the neighborhood, you have to get that kind of an apartment and you don't want to drift too far from the norm since you are new here/didnt know anyone coming in/have 8 years/everyone is paid the same/same financial situation.

aaand, everyone is married/engaged here. whats the deal.

Saw that Law and Order episode. Then again, with my Roku, I've seen almost all of them now. lol

I'm going to try and save a little every month once I get my financial stuff together.

Also, I've noticed that there are more engaged/married students at LSU than other schools I visited. I would think that's true for most southern public schools, but that's just a thought. I doubt there is a huge percentage of engaged/married people at private schools, especially the "prestige" ones.

that makes sense. families/couples stay in place. + east coast doesnt get married

15% of men here are single
33-40% of men are single in nyc

Oh my gosh!!! Mine too!
Woooo! You ever see the one with the execution and the whole episode is just going into the backstory of all of the other characters? It's the one where the first ADA is killed.

We have both the high standards (everyone wants a luxury apartment😕) and the marriage thing here as well.

I largely chalk the marriage thing here up to location. I have 0 married/engaged non-med school friends. Even the people I know back home who have kids are single.

Probably... It's not ringing a bell right now, but I've seen close to all episodes of both the original and SVU. Gosh, I love that show.

SERIOUSLY! It's an awesome show. That episode is definitely my fave because it's the only one I can think of that doesn't follow the typical format and you really learn a lot about the characters. Lenny relapses, ADA gets hit by a car, it's a great one, lol

As for SVU, also amazing. CI just plain sucks. 👎

haha, same.

yea, i was confused cuz the mstp kids... if they live like **** for one year, with this market, they could save a bit and live/buy into a nicer place for the next 7 years and it would be a better investment

i was gonna get a studio at first for the year but i think i would look ******ed. now i have to get an one br with more money

I have a newfound respect for both of you.

My wife and I have seen all of the SVU episode (if not all, then darn near it!) and most of the regular L&O. CI is terrible and I hate how the male detective (either Goldblum or Edgar from MiB) seem to have an expert level of knowledge of everything. Really? There is no way you psychoanalyzed the killer, knew that he took nicardipine for HTN AND were able to sweet-talk his girlfriend into testifying against him with your 2 year associates in criminal justice.*

*Note that this is an attack on people with an associates degree, a CJ degree or cops.

It varies so much by location... 2 of my former college roommates are now married, and 2 of my close friends from high school are married as well. This is in Iowa... not at all unusual to be married in your early 20's. I'll be married next year at age 23, and nobody from my town or undergrad thinks that's unusual. Definitely not normal for east/west coast or even Chicago mentality.

I'm getting married in December... in Chicago. lol

I know 1. My best friend from high school - married in May and just found out he is going to be a dad. 😱

I think med students who know they want to get married realize they should do it either right before 1st year or 2nd year. That probably accounts for what seems like higher percentage or younger marrieds.
