😱 When I lived in MI I was always shocked they never put in any toll roads (how does the most broke ass state in the nation not have toll roads?)

Things didn't quite workout this summer for my Cavs huh?

It's okay, we still have a playoff caliber team, a HUGE TE for Lebron and draft picks falling out of our butt. Don't think that Dan Gilbert is so far fetched in saying that the Cavs will win a title before the Heat...

Cuz ya know, Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams, and a couple of draft picks between 25-30 are totally like LeBron/D-Wade/Bosh 😉

In the weak East, MAYBE playoffs. But nothing more than first round fodder for the Heat/Magic/Celtics of the world.

And what differences are those?

Seems to me like you're justifying the double standard when in reality there's absolutely no reason for the double standard to exist outside.
 
To me, the difference in that story was that the girl was the one in the 5 year relationship, not the guys. If it was a guy sleeping with 7 girls over the course of a 5 year relationship, it would be equally bad.

Orientation starts August 11th, so pretty much in 1 month. 😱

I just had an amazing bacon and cheese omelet w/ buffalo sauce along with some great coffee. I love being home in the morning and making breakfast.

Couldn't have slept late anyway, since the maintenance people are hammering stuff outside of my bedroom.

Women get mugged more often than men (this is true for NYC at least). Women get raped more often than men. How many guys do you know who carry mace?

If I had a son and daughter and they were both coming home late at night - I'd be worried out of my mind for both; but slightly more so for the daughter than the son. I'm not saying there are major physical / emotional differences - I'm all for equality; but the nastier elements in society don't seem to agree. Even in the workforce women make less money on average than men (even now).

Do I think all this stuff's right? No absolutely not - I'd like to see true equality, and we've still got a ways to go. But while working towards that, it's important to not overlook the fact that there still are double standards, and learn to be smart and work through and around them - than ignore them and get hurt.

Yeah it would be, but those girls he slept with would also be called "sluts"....

While in this situation the guy gets cool points.

I just like to point out things, I wasn't trying to make any accusations. I know there are double standards and that will never completely change; neither will gender differences. At any point where there is a difference between groups, there will always be some sort of disparity and no matter how much anyone tries to equalize it, it will never happen.
 
Also ksmi - where I come from / was raised; things are veeeery different. Here's an example. A women only taxi cab company 🙂. I think it's a great idea, because in places like Bombay - it's the only way to really get a sense of security for women when they travel.

It'll probably never happen; but we try anyway. Because true failure is not when you don't succeed, but when you give up (I should be an inspirational speaker!). And I call those guys manwhores btw and don't give them much "street cred" - but yes, it's still considered "cool" to be a pseudo manwhore for some reason...

There's no denying that the general population would see those two situations as very different, though.

On the cost of living places... I definitely get the feeling that it is generally more expensive to live anywhere that's close to a medical center, i.e., medical school. Housing in Houston SHOULD be cheap, but generally I find that what I'm paying is similar to what you guys are. However, I AM pretty happy with my living arrangements for next year: I have a loft in my apartment 🙂

IMO, the onus is on the person in the relationship not to screw around. I'd never place the blame on the ones who aren't in a relationship. Besides, the double standards are there and the vast majority of women have no problem embracing the ones that benefit them(i.e. opening doors, buying little gifts, etc.)

That's what I thought back when I was still hoping to get off Baylor's waitlist. I was thinking that if I did, I would have to pay a fortune and live by myself. Most of Houston is cheap but the cool parts are expensive, right?

Yeah, I definitely don't give up, but I do recognize the never ending struggle ahead...

It's actually about $1960 for a 2 Br, so it'll be a little over $1000 per person after all the utilities/insurance...

thats very low for DC

i think i might end up at 750/month for everything - utilities + underground parking. hoping not to, but i have a decently new car and from what i see of corrosion in cars in the winter months here, it might be cheaper to pay for an underground spot. plus the people that are looking for roommates are looking for places at like 800/850 per person

Yeah pretty much. There are plenty of sketchy places you can live that are close to the close places and cheap, but...

However, if you look hard enough, there are places where you can at least get value for your money. I'm going to be paying $900 for a 1/1 with a nice big living room and loft (water and cable included). It's a really nice complex with 24/7 guard duty. And I pay pretty much nothing on transportation because there's a shuttle that picks up right across the street. It's all a matter of asking the right questions in the right places, and I bet that's the case in some other cities too; for example, I got this deal because I'm renting from a Baylor alum who still keeps this condo in Houston. If you guys look around in your respective cities and schools, I bet you could find some nicer bang for your buck as well.
