fn peds gets everyone sick... i feel like i have some sort of killer bug 🙁

This sounds like what I will be doing tomorrow.

I just wish there was a good iPhone app for Histo so that I could look at slides while I'm out tomorrow.

You could just save your powerpoints as images (File --> Save As --> JPEG --> Every Slide), and then upload them to your iPhone. I did this with my iPod, and it works pretty well.

On a different note, I decided to have all my Histo notes printed and bound at Kinkos. Turns out I had 228 pages of notes (114 front and back). That's crazy, especially considering these are all from the past 5 weeks.

That would have been great to know yesterday. Maybe if I go to the game next week I'll have those ready.

So jealous that you're at the game. My mom called me and was telling me about their tailgate and stuff and I'm like "yeah, I'm studying at school."

Though, I did commandeer the lounge TV for the Vandy-Ole Miss game and have the UGA-Arkansas game streaming on my computer. At least I'm not missing everything.

In need of advice!

So I've just started off researching with this attending and resident. My original intent was to join in on a research project that would go throughout the year and then continue through the summer so I could participate in the school's summer research program, which is necessary for research honors. After talking more with the attending and the resident, I'm really getting the feeling that this is very short-term (chart-review + statistical analysis).

Here's the question: I'm VERY interested in this project and regardless, want to continue to do it. Is there a tactful way to ask, "do you know how long this project is estimated to go for? Do you anticipate it going through the summer?" Then go on to explain the research program dilemma...

Is this appropriate to ask? To whom? And should I do it sooner rather than later or wait to see how the project is shaping up?

Thanks for being awesome, guys.

i wouldn't bother with the resident, just do a great job with the project now and keep weekly contact with the attending and he should keep you on for other projects (if there are any, there should be - if not, you probably don't want to be there anyway). at the meantime, i would look for other summer internships just to have other options

Yeah, he hinted at other future projects... but they were in a vastly different area than what we're looking at now. Right now, it's mostly the resident's project. The area of interest for the attending is "education of medical students via electronic medical records" as opposed to renal system surgery, lol

As for "other summer internships" do you mean at different schools? Options at other schools, I've heard, are a real pain to get approved for research honors here (lame!). So it's weird because I'd love to do similar research in the same department, but I don't want to offend the attending. Should I just go straight to him and ask him if this will qualify for the summer program...?

Surfing SDN on my shiny new iPad.

Why do you care about research honors? No one cares, including PDs.

I'd just like to have the option available. Plus I'd really like to participate in the program at my school as it'd be easier for my fiancee and I not to have to relocate and the stipend is nice as well.

I just don't know what way is best to go about this... 😳

Right now I'm leaning towards waiting for another month, month and a half, and then approach the attending to see if he would like to work on an additional separate project with me over the summer concerning a "similar area" as our current project. Because maybe he'd still be open to something similar since he did after all decide to get involved in this one...

I'm doing research honors simply because my project is exactly the same as one funded by RSNA. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it, because it is a huge hassle in terms of scheduling mandatory research time and actually doing the project, which may or may not be publishable. In my case, it is, which is a benefit. It's also a huge time sink to write the proposal, which you typically do as a M2, when you don't have much time.

How is Texas still ranked in the top 6 in both polls? They've been playing just as sloppy as anyone else and don't deserve to be that high. Especially at #4 in the Coaches' poll. Ridiculous.

Watching Bears v. Cowboys, and my hatred for Joe Buck has risen to new levels.

A hilariously stupid Aikman comment after the Bears were held to a field goal near the end of the half: "Well, this Cowboys defense is one that's very difficult to score points against..."

...at the time of the comment, the score was 17-14 Bears, and after the field goal was converted, 20-17, all points were scored by the offense. :smack:

Plenty of teams in the top 25 have been playing super sloppy. The first three weeks have left me unimpressed by any team, save Bama. They are going to dominate this season.

After Week 1 and 40% of Week 2, I have come to the conclusion that the NFL is stupid. By stupid, I mean unpredictable. Pretty much nothing has gone as expected or even close.

I'm not saying I hate surprises and unpredictability in football, I just wish it would have happened a little later in the season.

I think they get a pass because they were in the NC game last year and ppl still have favorable memories of their new QB. Too early in the season to worry about polls though.

It seems I can't study with pure focus for more than like 3 hours consecutively. Not good. Oh well.

I'm still probably going to request a ticket for the LSU-WVU game on Saturday even though the tests are on Monday and Tuesday.

It's everything for me. It's really lame that they just threw in the entire thorax 2 weeks before the test.

Our first exam was 2 weeks and it covered the entire throax and abdomen + embryo 🙁

Oh, and PHEWWWWW HISTO IS OVER!!!! :soexcited: Cell bio...done. Histo...done. Last man standing--Anatomy. Now prepare to die, anatomy :meanie:
