oh cool...now i just have to hope i dont get cut out of the lower limit 🙁

I'm guessing it's probably a 3.3-4.0, then variable depending on MCAT. So lower GPA with a higher MCAT might not get cut, where a high GPA and high MCAT might get cut.

Do the LizzyM calculation: GPA * 10 + MCAT = competitiveness.

Then do minus ~4 points and plus ~2. Just a guess without a whole lot of thought.

i wonder how they look at disadvatnaged applicants though. I know some schools have a seperate committee that looks at these applicants a little more to see if theres one they are interested in that may not get the cut off of w/e...so much unknown with this process🙁. If i ever make it this cycle i want to be on the committee just so i can see what really goes on :meanie:

They have a separate system for URM students... BS if you ask me. It should based on economics not the color of your skin.

If an African-American kid, who's father went to Harvard, paid for all of education, and gave him every possible advantage to get ahead (which I have no problem with whatsoever, because I'll do that for my kids, minus the Harvard part), that kid would still be considered a URM and could basically have his pick of schools assuming he does decent on his classes and MCAT. And why shouldn't he? Everything was paid for.

My problem is they still consider that kid a URM student. I think that's BS. Not to mention if the situation were the same, the kid messed around in college and got mediocre MCAT scores he would still be almost assured an acceptance. Equal rights my @ss.

First off i totally agree with everything you said, but i think me and you went down this path on another thread and i remember it not going well...people are too touchy even though its true...so ill just leave it at that . It is crap though. I was more talking about those of us who arent black/mexican/PR/native american. Those who self claim disadvantaged status, but cant play the get into school free race card.

just for funsies though

about the disadvantaged status, its self reported right? if people knew it would significantly benefit them, wouldn't they just make **** up? if they couldn't make it up, ie had to report their financial status, wouldn't people complain of discrimination against background?

this year, undergraduate institution actually made cuts in admission of people who wouldn't be able to afford their degree (the people that would need assistance). maybe med schools could play the same game and be harsher on those applicants when the time gets rough (which is exactly when you would think disadvantaged applicant needs help)

I hope they don't. I have enough things on my mind with the whole admissions shebang. I don't want to also worry about how financial aspects will affect this entire process.

true but getting med school loans is easier then undergrad right? I know for udnergrad your loans are capped but med school isnt it a little easier ? Or am i mistaken? It would be hard to bs disadvantaged imo, its not like bsing you want to be a dr to help people or something when in reality you want money/stability. Also you have to report your parents info, if your dads a dermatologist and your mom a pharmacist probably hard to claim you are poor lol. Its all one big loop though, someone always is gonna be pissed. I just wish the process wasnt so shrouded in secrecy.

Ha ha. Oh yeah! I remember that! Too much fun.

Yeah, I knew what you were getting at, but I guess I just got off onto a tangent. I think some schools will consider you separately, but I'm not sure if that's most or just a few.

This is a good point that is rarely brought up. I know GTown runs a credit check on you before they give you an acceptance because they want to know that you're going to be able to gain access to the funds beforehand.

Most of it's loan money, so as long as you have decent credit I'm sure GTown won't care. Now if you don't...

yea. the admissions process is a crap shoot. you are right about loans being easy.

but Elijah, lets say in a year, the state of medicine seems a bit bleak for doctors (ie a movement towards relative "socialization"). med school aid doesn't change. are you less likely to take out loans and go to med school if it meant a bigger burden on you and your family (lower physician pay)?

def some scary thinking, but egh, whatever I guess? I personally do not think this country will ever go towards universal healthcare but who knows

I guess that all depends on how much money your parents make. 😉

haha ****...im screwed at every point i think. Why wasnt my mom rich🙁

I would still go through with it but it would certainly be something that would scare me no doubt. I dont care if they want to drop docs salary but a corresponding change needs to come in tuition then too. Granted that will NEVER happen but still lol. Always nice to think what would happen in an ideal world. Im no expert in politics but i dont see america going that way either. That would have to come with a large increase in taxes right? like in other countries with this policy. That is like the fastest way to commit political suicide?

I was a trad med school applicant (pretty much) and I'll be 22 when med school starts but I also applied independent.

It does not matter for AMCAS purpose though.

You better hope Clinton doesn't become president.

AMCAS doesn't ask do they? I know the FAP does, but they really don't care because they ask for your parents' income info regardless.

Hi everyone!

Hey ! 🙂. Amcas doesnt care but for financial aid for schools they require you put parents info independant or not.

Medicine is not going to become socialized in the US. If it does, you can bet your @ss I'm moving. 😉

There is too much money filtered through medicine to convert it to a socialized system.

Oh yeah. I forgot that some of us might get accepted and ask for money from schools...

It's only 8:50 over there. Are you kidding? you can't go to bed yet.

Nah, I'm not sleepy. All this serious conversation has me bored.😳

Here's another boring one for ya:

Hey elijah, didn't you say that the EVMS 2ndary is out? I can't find it....

I just want to know if I wrote the right essays because I used last year's prompts. I'm done with all my schools prompts from last year btw!!

EDIT: Nevermind, I just had to dig on their site for a few minutes.

Nah, it's all talk. They aren't changing anything.

Although Obama does scare me a bit with his whole "socialize everything" talks.

It's a scary thought that a person could actually work for their money...

arlight yo, back to regular convo

which one would you rather wife: hot nurse vs average looking physician
