hey guys, do you think adcoms would not like me saying in the "anything else we should know about you" that my cousin was an alum of their program and she recommended that medical school?

would it seem like i'm name dropping and turn people off?

Well. Just got a job for the "glide year" doing some cool research and getting paid more than I'm qualified to make doing it. 👍

Otherwise just staring at the JHU secondary and thinking "oy."

Go for it. Inside information from family can be good. As long as said cousin was well-liked.

Sounds sweet.

I'm pretty good, just got back from vacation and ready to write some essays. I've been submitting all the secondaries that don't have an essay, so now I've got my work cut out for me.

A lot of secondaries actually ask for this kind of information.

agreed. lukkie was harmless and funny. seems like the iron fist is weapon of choice for mods lately.

did you guys apply to schools with an average LizzyM score more than 10 below yours?

do you think they'll throw our apps away cuz they'll know it's a safety?

No, I don't think there are many if any with a LizzyM score of more than 10 below minie haha🙂

its not like med schools even know what a lizzym score is, seriously i wouldnt even factor that into anything whatsoever, outside of SDN no one knows wtf lizzym is. Anyways I dont think they will throw out an app but some of the lower tier schools do apply ceiling limits. For example anyone who has a 4.0 and 40 mcat, like some people we know here 😉, is not going to attend NYMC, temple, RFU, GWU, etc etc. These schools know this and they know what type of students will matriculate here. That being said if you are like a 3.9 35 mcat range, you are still way above these schools but if you have a good reason theres no reason they wouldnt take you in or throw your app out. I dont know your stats but :shrug:, if you want to attend a school and make it know (i.e well written secondaries or in the case of temple a good why temple essay) or have ties to the area, theres no reason they will throw the app out.

People say this a lot, but sometimes I don't buy it. If you have a 4.0/40, why wouldn't a "safety" school interview/accept you? If, on the outside chance that you do go there, it might be worth it to them to take the chance on you turning them down. This is why they have a WL.

I'm only above average at one of my schools, and below average everywhere else.
This is what you get for overachieving, you must make hard decisions.

ahha dude i feel you. I think like creighton is the only school im average at...everything else im slightly below to like 1 standard dev or more below ahha...we suck :laugh:. Schools have to take average peeps to right to make sure the class is diverse? 😛

That's what I'm telling myself for the other 12 schools where I'm below average at.
There are always people below the average.
The MSAR has those bars that start at the 10th percentile. I based my choices on where that 10th percentile bar was for MCAT score. If I made the 10th percentile, I would apply. Those people still made it in, so what if they were the bottom of the statistics for the class?
Why not us, right? We can at least tell ourselves that. :luck::xf:

I'm willing to bet this one. I found a RANDOM post that was pseudo-racist (in PC terms of course) about teaching at certian types of schools. I won't rehash it with details as it was definitely pushing some boundaries, but the post had some truth mixed in with some sketch.

Oh well.
