Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My roommate is pre-vet, where you basically only apply to your state school (if you have one) unless you're God, and he thinks I'm nuts for applying to 16.
His brother is going to be an MS2 at LSU-NO, and he only applied to 5 schools at the most.
arent the 2 LSU state schools basically a lock for residents though? I mean they only take state residents and i cant imagine theres a huge pre med pop in LA?

It seems that way, but from conversations I've heard in the halls, some people just can't pull off the MCAT score to get in the first time. Alot of LSU med students are reapplicants.
But you're right, you would think we would have some ridiculous acceptance percentage like Mississippi (50% !!!), but I guess there are just more pre-meds in LA than one would think.

Must be nice, huh elijah? If we can be a lock for one of the UC schools?🙄

Yeah, a lot of pre-meds who can't get a score above a 25. I think our two state schools are the reason a lot of people aren't weeded out. You still have a shot even with mediocre stats. Thus, lots and lots of premeds.

Ya I think a lot of people, especially on SDN, don't remember that 25 is the average mcat so there are tons of premeds who never make it that we forget about.

That's the truth.
I hear so many people talking about med school application stuff at LSU, and they don't even know what they're talking about or what they're doing.
I know the SDN community is generally very well informed and organized with stuff, but some people really have no idea about how it's done.
This one guy in my Ecology class who I think was pretty smart but lazy, asked the teacher for a rec letter on the last day of class when he had only shown up for 2 classes besides test days. You probably shouldn't even ask for that stuff after class while other people are still there. The teacher agreed to write it, but didn't even remember the guy's name.

That happened in my Environmental Chemistry class too! One day the prof even made an announcement to the class that if he was writing a rec letter, he needed a resume. Do people just pick the nice professors or something, assuming that they'll write glowing letters? Because I know for a fact that no one paid attention in that class. It was hella boring, but the prof was nice.

aww, how sweet of AMCAS.

they're reminding me via email that i haven't designated any letters to any schools. as if they actually care about me.

Hah! So I guess my list of 5 schools makes me one hopeful sucker....frickin application fees :meanie:

I got that email 15 million times. It was annoying.

Where are you applying?

Georgetown, UVA, Columbia, Loyola, VCU. I'm just really in love with G'town and don't ever want to leave. EVER!

I was going to put Harvard as my safety but I just don't like the cold ya know? It puts a bit of a damper on the night life 😎

Holy crap, that sounds exactly like the Ecology class I had and the prof said the exact same thing. Maybe we had the same professor (prob not).
Because I'm just going to trust a nice professor who's solely writing off of my resume.... yeah right.

Timmy the Freak gets his 10th win. The Franchise for repeat Cy Young!

i wonder why ucla doesn't care that its supplemental application (and to some degree, its website) looks crappy

becuase 5k other ca residents like me and you would go there no matter if the website is crap or amazing?😛 Why try if you dont have to right.

I'll never forget the fun of aural skills (not oral 🙄) classes where you could always tell who performed on what instrument. Pianists could never figure out the rhythm. Percussionists struggled with the pitch. And the vocalists were just clueless.

I miss those classes.

Don't generalize us poor vocalists- not all of us were clueless! I was always surprised to even find a brass player up and in class at 9:00 as opposed to hungover in his/her bed!

Morning! 🙂 I had a great night's sleep. Went to bed really early.

Ok my 2014 friends, I'm off to school for a colorguard filled day. Have to teach a new girl a routine for 2 hours, then practice for like 5 hours, then gotta get all prettified for the first official performance of the 09-10 team. 😀

yay friday! and i get summer hours so i'm outta my office by 2!

woot friday!

good luck today ksmi!
