Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like my secondaries might be on hold for now, since I've just had the worst day in recent memory and have things to take care of.
First, I get a speeding ticket today for $127. I can take one of those classes and get it removed from my record, but the money is what hurts me. 🙁
Then, I come back to find my computer basically imploding on itself and installing all kinds of random stuff, while uninstalling my only refuge of antivirus remover. I can't even do anything with it now without it reinstalling the program that just messes up everything. I can't even run the aforementioned good antivirus program in safe mode anymore. I don't know how I'm going to put my updated NYU essay on my flash drive. I don't want to risk destroying my flash drive, too. I guess I'll just deal with it and write a little of it over. 🙁
Plus, don't know if I now have to put that ticket on the Vermont secondary, couldn't it just waited until after I submitted?

sorry that sucks 🙁. If u havnt submitted the vermont one, I would defiantly put it on there, if u already submitted i wouldnt worry, i highly doubt they would look badly upon it. I mean serious everyone speeds. The comp thing sucks though 🙁🙁. If u are still in school maybe you can take out a student loan of 1k or so to get a new comp? That what i did like 2 years ago when i bought my macbook.

I don't know, I guess I'm to the point of bringing it to someplace to get it fixed. I don't want to pull out a loan because my goal was to get a new one before med school. I just don't know if paying someone to fix my old computer is worth more than just buying a new cheap laptop. Computer fixes are expensive.
Thanks for your sympathy - I was just trying to get something from my storage unit today and something to eat, that's what led to these problems.

oy, that does sound like a terrible day. 🙁 don't worry about disclosing the ticket. med schools would not (and should not) care if you speed. gl with the computer :xf:
 
Ok, I'm officially confused. Can anyone help with this; it seems that in my AMCAS list my classes are listed a year behind. For instance under my classes last semester I selected 2008/2009 2nd semester spring. But when I look at the overview it comes up as 2008... Is that off or did yours do that as well.

I was just about to submit it when I noticed that...

Mine did that as well, I think that's just how it shows up for some reason.

👍This. Oddly, the year that it shows up as is just the first part of the academic year. i.e. any classes in academic year 2008/2009 will show up as 2008. No worries, you're not alone.

Hey, Ciello, did you apply to all your schools when you submitted your app or did you only apply to one pending your MCAT?

i thought you only had to put stuff you pled guilty to . . . if you haven't paid it yet, you haven't pled guilty yet 🙂

Yeah, there is a clause in there that says diversion type programs, offenses you were not convicted of, and items that were expunged from your adolescent record do not need to be included. Thank God! Now I don't need to add my minor in possession of alcohol tickets. 🙂

Btw, Congrats on your MCAT, Mary. You got an awesome score!

sorry for your terrible day. call me crazy, but why on earth would you report a speeding ticket? if i was an adcomm i would be worried if you HAVENT gotten a speeding ticket before...it's beyond human.

i definitely didnt report mine, and i bet many others havent either.
 
Ok, last question before I submit.


For letters of recommendation, if my letter writer was an instructor should I select "yes" when it asks if this letter is from a school? Does it matter? I did it by selecting "No" and then inputting all of their information, such as school, address, etc.

Any thoughts?

Edit: I selected "Individual Letter Writer" first, then it gives the option to add a school.

i'm revising my list of schools to apply to. i'm still gonna try to keep it around 15 or so- i have about 5 reaches (Baylor, Vanderbilt, Columbia, U Wisc, U of Chicago) about 6 middle of the road (Wake Forest, Iowa, Rochester, Rush, MCW, Miami) and some "safeties"/instates (Illinois, Loyola, RFU, SLU, Tulane.) I'm very happy that my dream of getting away from ice and snow could really happen. I also would love to end up somewhere relatively inexpensive, both tuition-wise and cost-of-living wise. I'm not a prestige ***** so decent weather + a chance to minimize loan debt will equal extreme happiness for me. 😀 suggestions, as always, are welcome!

oh god i love it too . . . its been a while since i read it but one of the funniest ones i remember was the one about how (s)he? had a dream about piloting a spaceship into the sun or something along those lines. amazing.

edited to add: just remembered the one about the daughter in prison . . . oh that one killed me. hilaaaaaarious

i've never gotten one! but i hate driving and i'm the most cautious person in the universe, so i don't think i count...

ok but you get a free pass because you live in a city with the best public transportation in the country...i wouldnt drive that much either!

exactly, if u live in cali you are bound to just have more tickets and accidents, its impossible to avoid-_-. I hate driving i want to move to NY just for public transportation lol, or any other place that has similar no need for cars.

👍 So cal = lots of driving = higher chance of traffic violations = probably the worst part about my otherwise beautiful city/state.

Well, see, it's not about other schools, but about Vermont. For some reason, they have a history of wanting to know about your speeding tickets and stuff on their secondary, and I just got it yesterday. I should have submitted it last night, then I wouldn't have this problem.

haha. i grew up in a tiny town, though, and still managed to put off getting my license until i was 17.5!

I applied to just one to submit, then I applied to the rest of them the weekend after I took the mcat. I didn't feel like waiting that much longer to submit things. Still two more weeks till i get results. It seems like i took that mcat months ago!
 
Oh, and in other good news, Iowa says they will count one of my first year seminars as an english course. Yay!!!

No need to buy a new computer or take it somewhere to be fixed. Just wipe the hard drive and start over.

Just got Wake, and USC (SoCal). I just read the titles b/c I was trying to finish up some last minute work, so my third email--from Rush--was a fake out.

flight delayed. guess I'm staying east side for a little while longer 👎

I just got USC to do thats all, what others did u get? this USC one is a beast though, man why do all cali 2ndaries have to be so damn long. And USC reqs are lame. If you are a non-sci major you are probably screwed, and if you are a sci major you might not meet their humanities req....im 1 unit short of their req, so irritating.
 
hey elijah, for upstate, if you paid the fee online, you don't have to snail mail the signature page right?

ah i see your point. thats a silly question for them to ask. ill be the devil on your left shoulder and tell you to leave it out...you are allowed to fight the ticket in court so you're not guily yet!
 
It looks like things are potentially looking up. I can take a driving class to get the ticket changed to a non-moving violation (although I still have to pay it), and I managed to download some good anti-spyware stuff for my computer and it's running right now and finding craploads of stuff.
Before I downloaded this stuff, I was looking into the thing my computer has, it's pretty beastly. The XP Protection Center Rogue Spyware. 😱

If that doesn't work and you end up wiping the HD, make sure you have the driver for your ethernet card, or you won't be able to get online to DL your other drivers.

thats what it said if u pay with a credit card then yes you dont have to send it in. but like dw said i have FAP so everything is free for me, i dont worry about it 🙂.
