Wow, looks like I missed all of the serious relationship talk and stuff. Coincidence, today I've been with my gf for 4 years - wow. But she says she'll probably follow me where I go, especially if there's a vet school there that's easier to get into than LSU.
It feels weird to not have any secondaries hanging over my head right now. It's been a while since I haven't had any to sit on. 🙂

you should def apply to TX A&M and tell your gf to do the same. their med school is only 3rd tier but their vet school is ranked pretty high.

Is it true that vet school is extremely competitive, or is that just something that people say? I have a friend who's pre-vet and he's always complaining about how much harder it is to get into than med school.

I got home from Boston on May 8th. Whenever I wasn't studying for the MCAT, I was watching HIMYM. By May 28th, I had watched all four seasons :laugh:

You know, I was thinking about some TX schools but then I wondered - they only take like 10% OOS and I have to fill out a different app! It just wasn't worth it to me in the end, but if I did I probably would've done UT-Houston, UT-Southwestern, and A&M. The money/risk factor just didn't compute for me. Now don't even ask me about UNC for that reason, I don't know what the hell I was thinking for that except that they screen.

Same reasons I left out TX schools

Yea, I did UNC because I love Chapel Hill and I figure that if they don't like me they'll just screen me out. No money lost and the risk is worth it.

With the Texas schools, it's an extra application and an extra like $400. I'm already out thousands of dollars; I don't need to make it worse.

Yep, that's exactly how I feel. I wish I would've liked more screened schools, but I only have 5 of 16. They know how to do it by not taking your money unless they're at least semi-serious about you.

The only thing that made me consider TX schools is that since I'm from Louisiana and LSU, they have a pretty good track record of getting students into TX schools. I guess due to proximity and likelihood of attendace is higher coming from LA, than say, New York or California.

yeah...it's a lot of work to fill out 2 apps. people were telling me to fill out the DO app. crazy people. :laugh:

not true. for 8 TX schools, it only cost me $145. That is for in state. for OOS, it's only like $10 more for each school. not that expensive. AMCAS is another story. 🙄

So, UCSF is my dream dream dream school, but my stats are extremely low so I didn't even think about applying there and wasting money and now some of my friends thinks that was a bad choice. They say I should apply anyway so that I won't wonder "what if?"

What do you guys think? There is really no chance of me getting in... especially in Cali

Does that include secondaries? If so, that's NUTS.

Luun, I haven't gotten a secondary from UCSF, but people with far lower stats than me have. I have no idea what the hell they want. They screen people out, so it's at least worth the $31 to try.
 
don't get me started on UNC. I applied to their summer program which takes like 85% instate only. then like a few days before their summer program start, they called me and said that I got off their waitlist. I was like "f*** u". Telling me all late while I had planned my summer. It was a waste but...what can I do since I already paid $3000+ for summer school.

Really depends on your stats and the rest of your application.

I wouldn't want to wonder "what if." You already got an interview invite too. I suspect there's something awesome in your app.

your URM status might give you some advantage. it's doesn't hurt to try.

some schools have secondaries and some don't.

no secondaries: UTH, UTSA, UTMB, TX Tech-El Paso
secondaries: UTSW-FREE
TX A&M - $50 -no fee waiver
TX Tech - $50 -no fee waiver
UNT- D.O. school- FREE

2. they didn't even tell me that I was on a waitlist.

how can you get rejected then get accepted? weird much?

I don't think there's anything to be mad about here. I mean I doubt that someone dropped out and then UNC waited a month until it was inconvenient for you to accept you. Yeah, it sucks that you couldn't do it, but it's not UNC's fault. They did end up offering you a place. It just didn't work out.

I think he's mad because they rejected him and apparently didn't tell him he was even on a waitlist. Rejection =/= waitlist.

it's quite their fault. they shouldn't have sent me the rejection letter and just told me that i was on a waitlist. If this had happened, then I wouldn't have signed up for summer classes. I would keep my options open if I knew I was on a waitlist just in case I got off it.

I've got to agree with you. Rejection means dont even expect to hear from us again
 
Now that I'm thinking about it... I selectively use the ' in some contractions but not others. Never noticed that before
 
So I was thinking about this: Wouldn't it be weird if some regulars from this thread went to the same school and became BFFs? And also, if we meet each other in real life and know about it, what do you say? You don't want to be lame and talk about SDN "hey remember what you posted yesterday, duhh...". Just a thought.

No, I've already had 2 classes with you and I'm pretty sure we even have some of the same friends. But would that make it more awkward? The fact that we had classes before SDN, and then there was SDN and we had to defend our school against the masses of haters. Tough question. Probably not, though.

I think it'd be kind of fun to run into people from here at interviews or in classes. Then again, I'm well versed in meeting strangers from the Internet. I got a tour of Boston from a guy I met on a different forum and once hitched a ride from Boston to Providence with people from a band fan forum. We're all good friends now. The Internet is awesome.

kinda late on the convo, but jackson and i met up the other night. i thought it was pretty normal. this sorta thing is gettin to be more mainstream i feel 😛
 
yea, it was. i was kinda beat that night from layin out by the pool all day but we watched a couple movies. wonder what shes upto tonight, havent seen her on here.
