This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i like how the airport in ATL has the MARTA attached to it.

this stupid friend facts app on facebook isnt working for me and im frustrated. maybe i have too many friends

I was about to say that! She did seem so miserable and unhappy. The guys were great and make jokes and laughed, but she was just blah. Why sign up if you don't like it?

Yeah, the guys were cool, but she was just a debbie downer. Like I feel like the admissions office should know that, because I'm sure she could turn some people off to the school with that attitude. I like happy tour guides.

I have yet to experience unenthusiastic tour guides. I guess you guys caught her on a bad day or something. I could see how that would really turn me off from a school though. If the students don't like it, how are you going to? Even if all the students at that particular school love it, the one negative representative could ruin it for many.

UNC had great tour guides -- they were really chill but still very welcoming and chock full of info 🙂

I'm in Hershey for my interview at PSU tomorrow. Staying at the "newly renovated" HoJos. I'm not a picky hotel-er by any means, and the HoJo was half the price of the Days Inn so I wasn't expecting much -- but I just had the creepiest experience of my hotel life: get in around 8:30 and get ready to hit the gym. go explore the hotel but i can't find it. End up at the front desk -- where they've got a sign that says "dial 0 and someone'll come down". I get directions to the gym -- which is on the backside of the 2nd building with an outside-facing door. No outdoor lights leading to the room -- and the room, itself has no lightbulbs. Zero. I felt like it was a potential scene from a horror flick. :scared: Worse than that, I'm jones-ing for some exercise, and it just ain't gonna happen tonight 🙁. Guess I'll watch Wanted on HBO instead 😀

Seemed kind of out of place considering how awesome Hershey/PSU looked driving through...

I've found that strange/unpleasant experiences in the town of the school before the interview can actually kill your enthusiam for the school itself. Association, I guess. Fact.

I don't think we'd be complete buzzkills like that girl today, either.

I can't believe I had to drive back to BR for one class tomorrow. Then I drive back to NOLA and to Nashville on Thurs.

Yeah. Stupid class. 🙁 I got back and changed and went straight to practice to catch up on everything I've missed. I caught on surprisingly fast.

Turns out that the captains didn't even put an alternate in my spot to learn it, so I've got no choice but to bust my ass to get this halftime show learned. We'll see how this goes.

So this is all for Florida? Why are yall doing this now? The game's not for almost 2 weeks.

Lame - you must not like your school.
 jk
I totally want to give tours and serve on admissions/greeting committees for interviewees and stuff when I get to school.

I'm going to apply for the ADCOM next year (they don't let first years on it).

Greeting things I'd be cool with, but I don't like being a salesman and I think that's generally what they want in tour guides (plus my low-keyness).

Speaking of greeting things, if any of you guys end up interviewing here let me know and I'll wander over to that night-before thing.

You're also welcome to my futon, but I warn you it's not particularly comfortable.

have you ever let people know where "here" is? 😕

I think most of the 2014 regulars know, I usually don't post it for all to view though.:ninja:

I'll PM you.

I know where "here" is...

but a good boy riceman is...so telling Yoda's secret he never will

I'll extend the same offer for any of you who venture out west down to Sunny D!

Haha, so it's good? I mean learning a show in 4 days is a bitch, so getting ahead is good. But now, I'll be stuck learning the show in 3. Should be interesting.

I cannot wait till LSWHO gets EXPOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FIGHT ON!!!!!!

I just realized that after Friday, I have no interviews scheduled until 10/27. That's almost a month! I'm not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed. I'll probably be happy for the first week, but I've gotten used to a lot of traveling and excitement the last couple of weeks.

And I'll actually have to go to class... Boo.

G'night. 😴

My lab people need to come in to work so that they can sign my timesheet and I can get paid...

back from atlanta!!!

vandy and morehouse were great. vandy is goooorrrgeous. atlanta is fuuuuun.

how come you didn't apply to emory!?!?!

i was going to, because I would love to be in ATL but i decided it was too much of a reach 🙁 but i bet you have a good shot, based on the fact that you got a vandy invite?

if i had to rank the schools i interviewed at so far (in terms of how i was impressed):

1. pitt
2. vandy
3. downstate
4. UofLouisville
5. dook

besides my ex-gf attending their undergrad and kids i have met from there being elitist douchebags, i like my schools to be very much a part of the city

i do like their curriculum tho (1 yr basic sci, 1 yr rotation 1 yr research 1 yr back to rotation), but i think because the 2nd year students couldnt get to see us and all, dook seemed a little bit more one dimensional. but again, thats part of the curriculum

pitt, however, is one of the most amazing medical centers i've seen. i actually like it as much as penn. it was very impressive

Glad you liked pitt, I'm headed their next week. Here's my rough list in order of preference based on interview day:

1. Michigan
2. UChicago (tie)
2. Iowa (tie)
4. Northwestern

Iowa and UChicago are different enough that I can't really put one ahead of the other, just different schools in very different environments.

my ranking would be:

1. umass
1. downstate
...
20. nymc

honestly, i don't know how i'd choose between my state schools; i loved them both so much. hopefully i'll be lucky enough to have to make that decision! :xf::xf:

no reason specifically. didn't really care for it.

do u know if michigan is raising tuition prices? i was scared to apply there because i know undergrad raised tuition by 10% and more for OOS and med schools were supposed to raise by similar if not higher number over the next 4 years.

10% is a lot

I'm not sure if they're raising it further, but OOS is over 40k... they said they're generous with aid, though, so we'll see how that goes.
