i'm officially done with my classes for the semester... yay
 
oh my god just a few more days till the plunge
 
I'm jealous of Chinook, and anybody else who is finished/almost finished. I have until May 15th.
 
i still have finals next week monday and wednesdayy
and one final is take home...
and thts it
but i still have to study for MCAT
so its nt all joy
 
Aww, sorry....MCAT studying might as well be finals studying, I suppose. Good luck with all of it (to you and everyone else!)

My momma is a coffee fanatic and my dad taught me how to drink beer. They happened to breed a child that lives off both.

The worst is at the bar after a full day of studying when you take a leak and it smells like straight coffee. Wake up the next morning and your morning relief smells like straight vodka. :barf:

I think your life tends to go down hill when you are in love with two diuretics. :laugh: I am just going to start drinking baileys and coffee 100% of the time so I don't have to be constantly making the switch between the two. :meanie:

Congrats on the MCAT scores all, I still have >2 months before then... dang

That blows bro. My buddy doesnt get done until June. Are you on a quarter system?

Most of my classes are canceled this week because it is dead week. I have two finals next week, but both aren't until friday. So I have a whole week of sitting around studying for the MCAT and waiting for two finals on the same day.

what is 5300? is it the character limit for AMCAS PS?

also, i just signed up for the July 2 MCAT test date. is this too late? i won't get my scores back until Aug 4! 😱

I will have everything in by then, just need to wait on my MCAT score though. suggestions?

FYI...i took my MCAT April 24 and have lost all confidence afterwards. so i signed up for another test date to be safe. I wanted June 18th but it was full in the Houston area. 🙁

5300 is the character limit. Aug 2nd is a bit late but every cycle theres always people that apply late and get in, but often these are strong applicants of which your GPA wont allow you to be. But nonetheless apply because in reality none of us ever know. Also did you void your mcat? I mean you might have done well. I honestly thought i bombed my mcat and while i have a somewhat poor score to show (29) its still better then what i expected. You may get better then what you think.

comment 2: I wanted a june test date too, but apparently so did everyone in IL (At least by chicago). I signed up over a month ago and they were all full, so I got stuck with July also. I hope we'll still be ok with that date.

what you can do is apply with ur old scores unless they were Realllly realllly bad

like if its around 28/29....just apply with that... and then call the schools and tell them that you are retaking the MCAT

or you could write it in ur personal statement that you are retaking?

just a thought..
my pre-health advisor told me to do that..

that way i guess they will review your application... but then they will also keep in mind a hopefully better score...
i dunno my logic seems skrewed up right now
but it could work if they liked the rest of your apps

or if nothing else...they'll keep your file until the new scores come in.. and it'll be reviewed later...
 
I guess you could fly to another state to take it... but that would be overkill I guess. You July dates, while a little late, should be okay.
 
The June date WILL open up as we get closer to it. If you check it everyday, you are bound to get a spot close, I guarantee it.

I had the same problem with getting a May 22 date close, best I could get was 2+ hours away. Checked it everyday and sure enough, a spot was open about a week ago.

A lot of folks who were signed up for May 22/28 bumped it back to June 18. As we get close to June 18, more will do the same and it will open spots. 100% positive.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. But I'm excited to get done so I can focus on just MCAT and work. That whole school thing is just messing everything up!

Wow! That is pronounced completely differently than I thought it would be. I just did the phonetic dictionary (and wanted to figure out where the hell it was...). Is it because of the swine flu?

Yep, swine flu. And yes, there are lots of interesting pronunciations in southern Mexico. And yes, DrYoda is lucky with his short semesters.

There's a place on the AMCAS to say that you are retaking. Check that, and they'll know.

Man that sucks... Our "dead week" isn't really dead week any more. It used to be that ALL classes were always canceled on the 15th week. Then they made it so you could have optional review sessions. Then they made it so classes were optional, but were still mostly nonexistant. Now classes are no different than normal, except you cant have tests Wed-Fri or HW assigned unless it was done like 2 weeks before or something.

It is funny, most of the lower level classes have all their classes this week, but most 400 levels are canceled because the professors have been around for a while and are pretty bitter about the fact that dead week has gone to ****. They think that it just puts more pressure on students, which in turn makes the learning environment stale and bad for students.

My favorite prof has gotten "written up" by the University a ton of times for doing things that "are not in line" with the University system. It is hilarious to hear him b!tch about the flaws of the upper education systems. After hearing him, I couldn't agree more. It is really surprising how the University is supposed to be this open environment for learning, but it really is pretty far from it. (I, too, am pretty bitter about this kind of thing; the Univ. shut out Bill Ayers after he was invited to speak--which I couldn't disagree with more and think is completely against what should be the Univ. policy of openness to fulfull education, that all views should have the equal chance to be spoken.)

And now that I have ranted, lets talk more about delicious beers and b!tch about biochem. That is much more fun.
 
i just realized i stole like 4 pencils from the organic lab students i was ta'ing for 😛
i wonder how they finished their final exams

That's too bad that they are slowly stripping your dead week. At least you still have homework restrictions. We still have projects that are going to be assigned that week and will be due during our finals!!😱 Who does that anyway...Kind of jacked, but what are you going to do.

Yeah, man. Universities are still businesses and if something doesn't jive with their business agenda they shut it down. It sucks, but that's where the students come in. You have voices and pay the bills, so if there are enough of you they have no choice but to listen. 😉

My dead week has never been dead. Lots of assignments due. I even had a test last semester. The university's rule is like... it can't be more than 15% of your grade and it has to be in the syllabus. And our dead week is only from Wednesday til Friday. So today and tomorrow are still fair game for pop quizzes and such.

I would still love to have a dead week, because one of my professors is still trying to decide if she is going to give us an ADDITIONAL exam not listed on the syllabus before our final... So ridiculous. I'll vehemently argue it tomorrow.
