I'm glad you continue to treat emoticons as complete sentences.

So is anyone else graduating this spring and planning on working over the next year?

I'm interviewing next week for research positions, and I don't know what approach to take on the "future/long term plans/availability" questions... I doubt anyone will be willing to hire me once I mention that I'll most likely only be available until August 2010. On the other hand, I'm interviewing for positions within the medical school of my state university, so I don't want to burn any future bridges by not being upfront in the beginning.

Thoughts, opinions? 😕

Yep. I might be leaving my lab (not sure if I should just tough it out for one more year or not). I think you're best bet is telling them you can offer them a little more than a year. Some people lie, but I think it will haunt them. I know my PI had it happen to him and he was pissed. This could impact you're future research opportunities, but probably won't. More than anything it's just jacked up to do in my opinion. Plus, some places make you sign an agreement.

Just be honest and tell them that if you get into the med school there you would be interested in possibly continuing the research over breaks and the summer months. This will show interest and let them know you're dedicated. Even if it doesn't happen, I think this is the better way to go.

Some labs, especially academic ones, are ok with that. It really depends on the PI though. This one even salaried me!😀

But it's a very small hill...

So I woke up today with this awful sore throat. Just talked to my mom and her friend's son also felt this way a few days ago, and he'll be getting out of the hospital tomorrow. Awesome. Not that I think I'm that sick, but still... Finals start in like 4 days. Not a good time, not at all.

:uhno: Uh oh... See what happens when you let Blueelmo have you for the night... :uhno:

Oh no.😱

Look What you went and did, Blue... Tsk tsk tsk:nono:

just to defend my homage: FPS's are awesome. strike that, counterstrike is awesome. beyond awesome.

FPS are da Beezneez! I'm a big fan of COD4, COD5. I used to love RTCW on the PC. That was was hooked me on FPS. I miss that game...🙁

oh wonderful that means dryoda is gonna post here even more.

yall might have heard this but the first person to die in the US from H1N1 virus was a mexican boy from mexico city. He died at TX Children's Hospital on Tuesday here in the TX Medical center in Houston. Well I was there in the ER shadowing on Monday and everything was fine. But I will shadow again tomorrow in the ER and am really scared of the virus spreading. So should I go or not go? It would be bad to not go b/c the Dr. that I will shadow have set that date for me to shadow out of her busy schedule.

If i do go, should i ask for a mask or something? I don't want to go in there and look stupid if I'm the only one wearing the mask. any suggestions?

If you are really uncomfortable going there, then I'm sure they will understand.

On the other hand, yes, people in the medical field get exposed to diseases and viruses such as this one. I'm sure if you wore a mask, you wouldn't be the only one. As long as you are healthy, you should be fine (but also, don't take medical advice from me, a lowly undergraduate 😉). Just wash your hands a lot, etc.

Sorry I don't have a substantial answer.

Well, if it was big red danger, than I'm sure they would have closed the hospital down already. If everything is going according to schedule, then I'm sure there's no problem.

ha! spanish speakers are everywhere here in Houston unfortunately 🙂

they're the ones who pay most of the ER bills. 😀

Am I missing something or is there nothing in your post?

either an admin removed it or the hosting site I was using blocked it, but there was a picture there... I swear... I swear I'm not crazy!

In response to ocomplications at some point yesterday, I believe it was...I may be a wench, but I believe the forum has moved on to less raunchy discussions.
KSMI, I hope you feel better, and recyclingbinh, stay well! It could be interesting to observe how things work in the throes of a public health concern as long as you exercise caution.

oh lol amcas opens on may 5 not 1 all this time i was worried for nothing FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Disappearing pictures? Sounds like a job for me to investigate.

pathologists are weird

I loved pathology. I kept calling to shadow there. They had such a distorted sense of humor.

I remember walking in and the pathologist had a tiny fetus on a potty pad and took his tweezers and started waving it's arm at me saying, "Hi 0comp, How are you doing?" Then he went into throwing gang signs with the fetus...

This was all right before he walked up to the lab tech with a human brain and said, "Hey, Sally, I think you forgot this today when you left the house..."

Just wrong on so many levels... That's why they hide them in a lab. 😉

Ha ha. That was days ago... AND we already discussed it 🙄... Is PirateInASkirt from a song or movie? I know I've seen that somewhere before though.

Ha, to my knowledge it isn't actually. It sort of evolved out of a variety of things, including my propensity to dress up like a pirate for halloween/theme parties, and some other conversations/jokes/events I don't really even remember at the moment. Now I'm curious though, regarding the song or movie.

You just reminded me why I think Halloween is the greatest adult holiday out there. Women take it as an opportunity to dismiss their inhibitions and dress how they really want to for a night, pretty much in next to nothing. Gotta love it! If that's what hell is really like I'll take a one way ticket please! :meanie:

Haha... I never dress slutty for Halloween and I stick out like a sore thumb among the girls. sigh.

Same, Same. WOW, busiest two days of my life the last two days. Not even kidding. It feels soo good to just relax for a few minutes.

pathologists are weird
I think it'd be fun to be a pathologist. I would just need to find some way to get patient interaction though.

I may even make this thread my official summer drunk-posting thread😀

Here's my opinion: Go, if anyone had caught it from that case, the hospital would FREAK out, and there's no way they'd let you go.

Disclaimer: that's just my opinion.

Couldn't agree more. It's almost become underwear night over the last few years.

👍.

Top.

The emoticon sentence. Love it.
EDIT: ooo just noticed the period at the end of it too. Good structure in the emoticon sentence even.
