Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey, can't be too careful. Last thing we need is a MOD scandal. I saw what happened with the Gov. Starts as a trip to the woods ends with plane rides to South America. They don't pay me enough to find and train two new mods over that stuff.

 I don't think you post-holding us would have stopped that from happening.

How do you guys even get to be mods?

Basically what ksmi said; whenever we decide we need more mods, we look for users that seem to be active and generally helpful in the forum we want modded. There's really no science to it, though.

The hope was you'd be sober enough in the AM to not tell us about it. 😉

Hah I have a pretty big mouth, sober or not 😛

Okay so there are two general pathways:

1. Users PM members of senior staff.
2. Members of current staff recommend someone.

We look for people who have been around awhile, post helpful information, stay out of trouble, and seem easy to get along with and likely to stick around for awhile. It takes a bit of time and effort to "train" mods, and we are all volunteers so the longer people stay around the easier my life is. Especially now that I am the only Blue mod in all of PA (which is a huge).

After the recommendation or self-recommendation we look at our needs at the time and discuss with the entire staff (or those who give input).

I think we have over 100 volunteers on the site so getting info from all of them is hard (and unnecessary) but most if not all of the Red+s will give input on the nominations as well as many of the assistants (who are the ones on the forums the most and know users best).

Blue/Red?

The rest makes sense.

You guys do a lot of work - kudos! 🙂

the better question imo is why one would want to be a mod
First off, I've used this site for many things and it has been an amazing resource for me. I came on originally to help develop the High School site. At the time my sister was thinking about Pharmacy and was in high school, plus I like to help people out in terms of how to get on this pathway as I had no one to help me (other than SDN). Then they asked me to cover PA as well because hSDN hadn't launched yet so I did. THEN they asked me to become a full mod and take on MCAT. So I was in all three. Then I got promoted to Senior so now I am a site-wide mod (though I mostly stick to what I know). Why have I stayed on? Because the people who are on staff are really some of the most awesome people I e-know. I've even gotten to meet some of them in person and it's awesome. It doesn't require a whole lot of work, and it helps make this place a little better. Lee is an amazing guy and has awesome plans for the community and it's great to get to be a part of it. The Admins work super hard and I really didn't know 90% of what goes on before coming on to staff.

home in nyc after a loooooong (but very short) weekend in beantown.

so effing tired. and yet, i'm on SDN instead of going to bed. wtf.

If you look carefully, there are 4 different levels of mods, and they have different colored mod icons: green (asst. mod, like JJ), red (regular mod, like me and ksmi), blue (senior mod, like Caesar), and black (admin, which you don't see very often, but maybe you've seen Depakote).

Ditto to all his reasons.

Bleargh, what percentage of your total posts say "refer to avatar" or some variation? 50%, more?

haha, I've been thinking the same thing.

So Sammich, are we going to do anything to make that fantasy matchup more interesting? Or are you just talk? 😛

What do you have in mind, spursy?
