Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ahhhhhh, it already has all my courses filled out with grades. Have fun typing those in everyone!

Also, when you're adding schools: It has the option to add MD, MD/PhD, MD/whatever, but they're not always in the same order. Just a heads up not to just select the top one every time. AMCAS tried to trick me, but I made it through its test of wit.

ooh exciting. ill start this after work tonight.

why is SDN acting up on me again
its nt letting me post
and soon you guys are gonna see duplicate posts
UGGHH
skrew it
im going to lunch

under misdeameanors i explained the underage consumption of alcohol charge i plead guilty to my frosh year of college. I explained everything then simply stated "I have learned my lesson from this incident and have not since been in any trouble with the law." I hope this was sufficient but seriously, 1300 characters to explain a drinking ticket??? I don't know what else to say.

I think as long as you explained it well, that will be fine. It's what I plan on doing with my IA. Adcoms really don't want to read more than necessary especially with bad things about you. But someone people may need more room to explain their situation. Keep it short and to the point.

I'm sorry, but what is IA?

I wanna START!!

IA = Institutional Action

Good luck on AMCAS 2014ers!

Thanks! It went super well. Woot!

Are you like checking every five minutes or something? haha

Nice! Congrats!

It's open and functional. For those that are reapplying, your AMCAS ID remains the same, and many things have been pre-filled for you.👍

Best of luck, boys and girls!😎

WooHooo! Thanks for the update!

Woo...

Ok, for preferred name, should I put my nick name? Or just leave it as my real name??

That reminds me of a joke I just heard. It's probably not appropriate, but that's just the kind of guy I am...

[FONT=PrimaSans BT,Verdana,sans-serif]A woman scanned the guests at a party and spotted an attractive man
standing alone.

She approached him. "Hello" she said. "My name is Carmen Gold."

"That's a beautiful name" he said, "Is it a family name?"

"No", she replied. "I gave it to myself. It reflects the things I
like most in life, Cars, Men and Fine Jewelry.

"What's your Name?" she asked.

He replied, "B.J. Titsengolf". .

Reapplicant? If not, you must share your secret... I have over 240 credit hours to post...

I would imagine that the 1300 are for the more serious offenses. You should, however, have an unbiased reader read this section and make sure that it explains it well enough.

I don't think I'll need to include mine because it was over 10 years ago...

Why don't you just add a nonsense statement to allow you to move through the app then go back and adjust it when you have had time to write an explanation?

Whoa, you had institutional action? I thought mods are always well-behaved, productive, law abiding citizens 🙂. What did you do to deserve that?

Nice! Congrats!

I have a question!!
do you guys know if we need to mail the transcript request form to our undergrad institutions? or can we just send them to amcas? sorry if this is a silly question..just want to follow the right protocol..the reason i am asking is that mailing the amcas transcript form to them will take a few days in itself so i was wondering if there was a faster way to do this?

Unfortunately, it must be mailed from the institution.

Reapplicant, sadly. I wish there was a way you guys could type the grades in faster, but it's much better than not having a common application, right?

I already did my first one. I faxed the request form to the university that I got my dual enrollment credit from in high school. They'll mail the transcript to AMCAS.
For my current transcript, I'm just going to walk into Carruthers and hand the request form to them once I get my last grade. I'd suggest faxing from out of town though. I'm pretty sure they have to mail the transcript to AMCAS once you request it.

we can already start mailing in transcripts??
i thought we had to wait until june 1?

another question:
do letters of rec usually go during initial applications or secondary?

LORs go with the 2ndary applications. but i called amcas and they said you can send both your transcripts and LORs today if you wanted. You just need to obviously have entered all your classes so they can verify them by the time the transcript reaches them via snail mail.

I'm sure you'll have success this time, man!

Can't you guys just go online at your university to request your transcripts to be mailed? My school offers this service and mails them for free. Here here for cheap state schools!!!

Wait, so you're saying they'll begin verification now before you submit????

I just hand-delivered the transcript request form. Not sure how big your school is, but the registrar's office is just a short walk from most of my classes. And I asked that the transcript not be sent until after spring quarter grades

Daaaaang! In four years?! That's over twice as many hours as me. Am I that bad, or are you just that good???

Neither. I've done about 180 in 5 years (4.5 to be exact). The other credits are from like 10 years ago (and they aren't so hot. 😳).

But I think the 180 has balanced it out a bit. I did two Majors (Bio and Psych [emphasis on physiological neuroscience]) and am one class away from another minor, but I don't care about the minor, so I'm not taking it.

Still, good job. That should open a few ADCOM's eyes, I would think. 240 is a lot of friggin hours

I hope so. I just wish the first 60 weren't so bad... It's crazy because this semester with 11 credit hours a 4.0 my gpa will only move up .02 points. ha ha.

Wait, so you're saying they'll begin verification now before you submit????

apparently yes they will, unless the amcas lady was lieing to me/ didnt know wtf was going on. Im just going to send lors and transcripts today! Earlier the betteR!

Nooo! They don't verify anything until AMCAS opens for submission in June. They marked them received as they come in, though, and queue them in order of receipt. The sooner you get them in, the sooner you'll be verified once the floodgates open.👍

Not that it's not cool, but I'm hoping she's lying! :meanie: actually, if she's not I'm screwed. I'm not taking my MCAT until June 18th and was banking the verification process taking 3 weeks on average. So, if that's off, I'll be further than a month behind on an early app, which would suck...

Verification for the first group took around 2 weeks (2 days if you're early decision). After that, though, it just gets longer and longer and longer. It really can take 6 weeks at the height of the cycle.

Ingenius...

I climbed out of my window freshman year because it opened onto the roof. Got put on probation for two semesters for trespassing.

Hmmm. If I submit for verification around the 20th of June, what is your best guess as to a time to verify? I figure it won't matter much if it's less than 30 days, because my score won't be out until the 17th of July.

3-4 weeks, maybe, and probably closer to 3. Honestly, if you're submitting in June, you're in a pretty good position to begin with.

I hope so. I'll be submitting without my MCAT score, but I figured they would just add that once my scores are out in July.

Damn, that sucks b/c I won't have my last grade for another week. I'm going to wait until I have that to submit my transcript. Like you said though, anyone who hits the submit button on day 1 is sitting pretty.

Can you get the transcript office to hold until all grades from the term are in?

I won't have my grades in until 6/11. Dang.

Also, ksmi, LOL at climbing out of the window.:meanie:

how should you explain normal paid work activities. I worked at a retail store for my 2 years of junior college and I dont know really what to describe. I mean its not like it was medically relevant or anything...it was just a pos retail job i needed to keep my son and I afloat as loans are not possible at junior college.

I'd describe it just like that. That's what they want to hear about, your real-life experiences. It doesn't necessarily have to be medically related (as far as I know)

I'll call and ask em. That's a good idea.

Are you going to submit your AMCAS without the grades from this semester? I would wait for the grades b/c you won't be too far behind if you're only submiting 10 days later than the first round.
