Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sigh... so I got an A in my class that I needed a 90 on the final, so that's good. But the two tests today. idk. Marketing, I think I did well enough. Environmental Chem, I don't even know what to think. He doesn't have a grading scale. He just puts all the total scores in order and looks for "natural breaks." I got a B on the only test, missed a quiz, and don't feel so great about the final. But I can't imagine anyone in the class did so great on the final either. It was kinda out of left field. grrr...

Also, how would you define "semester break?" I say it's begins after the last final. Such a misleading deadline.

how do you already know your grade?

Some of my smaller classes (i.e. 30 or less), which I've only had a couple of times, take online tests from our computer lab. Know our grades as soon as we click Submit. . . I wonder why the MCAT doesn't do that??

Actually, I know. Stupid Writing section

Congratulations on the A, indeed. Always a relieving feeling. I had one of my final grades posted before Finals week even began (love optional finals). Another was up before the day of the final was even over. The others are probably going to keep me waiting, though I am somewhat confident of my grades in them.

That one class without a grading scale seems bizarre. I've never heard of something like that, at least. Sounds frustrating! Good luck!

Thanks. I mean in the past he's given like 60% A's, but it's just so hard not knowing where you stand in the class, ya know? My grade depends on how other people do, not just on how I do.

I know I'm upset for little reason. But yeah. It's frustrating being so in the dark.

do we need to put in all of our AP classes as well..

or just classes that would fulfill prereqs like bio?

without a grading scale
That reminds me of my computer science professor. He was terrible. He came up with the grading scale (ya know 20% test 1, 25% HW, ...) on the last day of classes. Oh, I had him twice.

Actually, I know. Stupid Writing section
The GRE gives you the multiple choice scores while you're sitting at the computer. I've always been under the impression that the MCAT doesn't because they want to make sure you don't cheat, and they want to make sure the the percentiles of each score are about the same as other testing dates.

Anything you got credit for.

Ok here is what I wrote about my IA:

As a freshman, I lived in on the second floor of the _____ Residence Hall. The entire building was three stories with the exception of lobby which was only one story high. The lobby was located almost directly beneath my room, so outside the window to my room was the roof of the lobby. In the past, this roof was used as an area to tan for the women living in the residence hall, but due to safety concerns the door to the roof was locked. However, no notice of the illegality of going on the tanning roof was given to the residents. One night, two of my friends came over to study, noticed that we had access to the roof, and climbed out of the window. My roommate and I followed. While we were on the roof, we were spotted by the Graduate Hall Director and written up for trespassing. As a result, my three friends and I received the following sanctions: Warning Probation, which is described by the Office of Student Advocacy and Accountability as a "lesser form of probation indicating that the student has been notified that he or she has engaged in unacceptable behavior and that further violations of the regulations may result in more severe disciplinary action,". .and an Ethical Decision Making Class, in which we discussed theories and practices of ethical decision making and wrote a paper on a case study.

Opinions? I didn't really learn anything from it, besides try harder not to get caught next time, but should I make something up??

EDIT: It's too long already.

EDIT AGAIN: Ok now it's exactly 1325...

Huzzah for June 18th MCATs. I'm signed up for it and will likely only give myself a few days (in theory!) of academic rest before hitting the books again. Alas.

But at least I am done with the semester! Now to take the most glorious nap. Mmm. 😴😴😴

You're lucky, man. I'm going to roll right into studying for the MCAT... Plus, to add insult to injury, I'm flying to San Diego for about a week and will spend 90% of the time I'm there in a coffee shop studying. 🙁 Great trip...👎

From AMCAS:

"As far as course name is concerned, if it is abbreviated on the transcript, you are welcome to write out its full name on the application so the schools know the name of the courses you took. We will be able to match the names up based on the transcript's abbreviations."

You gotta admit, AMCAS is really clear and prompt when responding by emails.👍

Sweet! You don't have to be an "Anal" specialist anymore.

Woot! Done with my only final and booked my trip to Seattle for the LSU-Washington game! It's a good day, now to finish my stupid draft of my stupid personal statement for the premed committee before I leave BR for the summer.

That will be sweet! Too bad you have to watch LSU play though... :meanie:

it makes you sound like you noticed a locked door, and found a way around it so you could still get your suntanning in. any way to ignore that part?

more people look at this thread than another one i posted in, so what's your take on this?

"physiological psychology" - in psych department. physio, so bio? or psych, so psych (lol). It was mostly a lab-based course, so can I pull of bio?

also: "statistics in psychology" - through the psych department, but we didn't do any psych. So math is ok?

I'm thinking about putting that one down as a Bio class... At least I'm going to try. I learned more about bio in there than I did most of my bio classes.

I was told neigh on that stats deal, but if you get a response, let me know, because I took a year of psych stats and they said they wouldn't take them without a MTH prefix... So, now I'm finishing up a MTH stats class... Sigh.

Oh, also! Did you take Sensation and Perception, Psychopharmacology, or Clinical Neuropsychology? I was hoping to put those down as Bio as well... What do you think?

I took two semesters of organic chemistry that were just like that, only with points. Maddening, I tell you.

Only if they are addressed specifically on your transcript.

Congrats on the A!!!

My Ochem prof did the "natural breaks" grading scale too. Don't give up yet, you could luck out due to the innate stupidity that tends to reside in most of the college seats. 😉

I was told it was to monitor for cheating. They analyze the answers of all those sitting in close proximity and if there is a question, refer to the tapes. The writing sample wouldn't hold back the numeric score. Think GRE.

Better??????

How is stepping out onto a roof unethical???

Also, "my three friends and I" is unnecessary--try "we."👍

Man, that's fast. Our profs don't post for a week.
My school has a policy where final grades must be posted within a few days of the final date. I bet the faculty hates it, but I think it's a good policy.

That one class without a grading scale seems bizarre.
I had one of them this past semester. 👎 For posting the grading scale a week before the final.

I would drop the bolded "decades ago". Other than that I think it looks fine.

I read somewhere that AMCAS doesn't consider pharmacology to be bio at all, so psychopharm definitely will not fly. Maybe not clinical n.psych either. S&P maybe, depending on what you think you really learned.

sounds good, ksmi.

Don't you want to kill that Graduate student guy that reported you?🙂

I would avoid saying "assumed" cuz when you assume, you make an a@@ out of u and me.

oi.
maybe you were not aware you would breaking any rules?

I made a couple changes.

🙁 That would really suck... S&P was essentially the peripheral nervous system to the brain. Once in the brain, it was brains all the way. I'm thinking about just clicking them anyway. 😏 🙂

Is there anyway to know what a school will have on the 2ndary early? Like maybe calling the schools or something? Or basically if u wanted to write them early do you just have to follow the old prompts and pray they are the same? Id assume the answer is no but....never know

It is dangerous to go alone. Take this!

(A lot of schools do the same thing every year, but some like to switch it up from year to year.)

For this and all kinds of awesome info about this past cycle, check out our sticky at the top of the Pre-Allo forum. If you look at the 2008-2009 sticky, the 2008 cycle stuff is included so you can go check out how much they changed.

You can cross-reference that list with this one.

See! I told you this thread would take off after AMCAS opened. 🙂

I don't think you will be that far off if you go with last years.

Nice link though, Myuu.👍

thread is moving too fast now

im can finally fill out my AMCAS properly now 🙂

What category is "Biochemistry and Molecular Biology"?

Manual says biochem for Chemistry and molecular bio for Biology.😕

Is it one class? If so I would probably go with what dept. your school has it listed as.
