You can both step off, because that one is going to be mine!

I can undelete them too. muahahaha.

Actually, donors can delete their own posts, too. So it's not just the mods.

If you start now, Ksmi, you could not exist in about 5 hours... :meanie:

Speaking of pics...

Can you guys explain to me exactly what is going on in this pic?

Don't do anything too crazy here by yourself, 0C.

Note to self - don't stay out on a Wednesday night doing. . . stuff. . . if you have an 8:00 quiz on Thursday

If stuff is over 18 and has double D's you were certainly justified, my friend.

well I got done with my pre-med committee today. I did a little talking about myself, about why I want to be a doctor, and some stuff about my activities. Then they opened my information and said.... well I don't really see any weaknesses here.

I guess that means I got a good letter 😀😀

AMCAS Question: Hey, is anyone putting down hour totals for their volunteer experienes and what not? It says average hours per week, but that was highly variable based on whether I was in town or if I had time to go volunteer. If I do a strict average, it comes out to like 0.6 h/wk, but when I went I was usually in there for 2-3 hours.

I feel like hour totals are a little neurotic/numbers driven. I'm thinking about just putting the 0.6 average.

This applies to shadowing too. I've done ~30 hrs of shadowing over 3 years. I think I'm just going to put 0 h/wk and describe every experience.

works for me! I did not that with two of my shadowing experiences. I figure it's best not to lie about your avg hr/wk. I doubt that number has too much significance, unless it says 1 hr/wk and you try to sell it as your primary job 😉

I dont think we had to put hour totals do we? I just put the average hours then explained that I took time off etc etc..

Pretty much what I did. Write in a number, then use the big empty box to explain.👍

i still need to do this for most of mine..(since I did most of my volunteering stuff during the school yr)

but in the notes section you should mention the times it was..

.6 may come across as more strange..but i think regardless if you explain it it will make sense

i finally got someone to shadow
plastic surgeonn
woohooo 😀

That's BA, I love watching surgeries.

I'm going to round to the nearest 0.5 for my avg hr/wk. 0.5 will look better than 0.6.

Cool, the ER is a hectic place. Always a lot going on.

No, I don't usually volunteer only 30 min/wk. When I first decided to be pre-med, I volunteered at a hospital. I'd go in when I had time, and I was in town. I went in for 2-3 hours each week until finals, then I left town for the summer and started volunteering when I got back again. The result was 35 hours in 52 weeks.

Now I volunteer 13hr/wk on average. Volunteer EMT.

Work is a different story. 40hr/wk in the summers in undergrad and 40hr/wk in the lab now.

I lOVED my expereince there...so many cool things happening all the time!!

and everyone was really nice except the neuro people they werent so nice..

i use to keep a small journal with me to make notes..i have to see around my place if i can find it but i def..remember it being way fun =)

shadowing a surgoen is awesome too..although i did orthopedic not plastic surgery..i just remember the blood jsut squriting out like crazy and it was awesome..it was hectic and tiring throuhg..to keep up with surgeons..but it really gives u a nice feel for the life style and long hours..and i got so see how tehy do repair the meniscus..

its pretty cool..its this little shaver thing( or it looked like this anyway) that goes in and shaves a portion of it off..apparently its the firnges that cause the pain..and the pateint only has three little incisions aorund the knee...thats it!

We're going for page 1000 over in 2013
*In secret 2014 code language*: What do you say we sneak into 2013 and steal their glorious 1000 top? That would be cool I think. When they have like 30 posts on page 999, I say we just attack it

I watched a few of these surgeries a couple of weeks ago. The arthroscopic ones were cool, but the total knee replacement is even cooler. They break out the heavy machinery for that one. I was also lucky enough to watch a CV surgeon do an aortic valve replacement and CABG; 6 hour surgery, pretty awesome. Tiring, but awesome. The surgeons around here have been a lot more welcoming (as far as shadowing goes) than ER and PC docs. . . I still haven't found anyone to let me shadow in the ER 🙁

Yea, but we could still bask in the glory. They'll probably troll us regardless. . . 🙄. I wonder if DIAF is 2013 code for, I don't know, die?

EDIT: Die in a fire, got it

I'd say if you did that, you can say goodbye to your cute little 2014 thread. Nice try, kiddies. Mods and donors would delete posts left and right to steal your glory :meanie:

1. Are you gonna delete our thread? You seem to forget that there are mods in both classes.

2. It still wouldn't be the same.
