Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's what I need! Yeah, after being bombarded with so many emails every day, it's no wonder that it slipped through the cracks. Besides, they sent out the first and only email about the survey right before the anatomy test, and then, they didn't send any other reminders. I was definitely a little frustrated when I realized that I missed it!

After doing some short research, I've decided to just use Google Calendar. Tell me if you find a better program!

:scared:

Major issues!

I was calling to activate my new phone and the voice said "Congratulations! Your new phone is activated! The final step in activating your..." and it CUT OFF!!!

Now my old phone doesn't work and neither does my new one!

+pissed+

I have absolutely no idea what to do.

lol yea, AANA's study says CNA's are commensurate to Anesthesiologists? No way!!!

Some gems from the actual paper:

We compared inpatient mortality rates between opt-out and non-opt-out states, stratifying by year and anesthesia arrangement. Anesthesiologists practicing alone were involved in more complex surgical procedures than certified registered nurse anesthetists practicing alone. Therefore, we adjusted anesthesiologist solo mortality rates by applying to the anesthesiologist solo group the nurse anesthetist case-mix for surgeries that the two providers had in common.

We did find that case-mix complexity was different for the two types of providers. Anesthesia base units for procedures in which anesthesiologists practiced solo were a full point higher than for procedures in which certified registered nurse anesthetists worked alone.
Although base units might not completely describe the complexity of either surgical or anesthetic procedures, base units were associated with a statistically greater mortality risk in our multivariate model. We estimate that each one-point increase in procedure base units is associated with a 7 percent higher mortality risk.

This research was funded by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

You can try reseting the phone and see if that helps. Hold the home and the power button at the same time for 10-15 secs or so.

Had fun in the ED today. Was taking care of some pts that I had seen from the wards, and some new pts! Saw a couple fractures set, made a few diagnoses and plans, etc, good times 🙂

Cool.👍

I'm looking forward to starting the clinical years. It seems like it'll be much more entertaining.

for the past week i havnt slept at all really outside of naps after class!

same! now what to do🙁. After 1+ month in M1 i must say it blows haha. M2 has to be better right, or at least m3?

I think M2 is better. More interesting subject matter, being already adjusted to med school, and less touchy-feely time wasters (at least here). I do feel like I'm working harder though, so kind of a trade off.

yah we do mad touchy feely stuff here, im officially uncomfortable lol. Weve had like 4 hrs of lecture on things like taking a soap note and all i can think is...."really" lol

I failed our soap note workshop last year. 0% for illegibility.
haha that is amazing. we dont even get graded so i think i will draw a picture and somehow throw in a smiley face sun to make it legit

 That's what I felt like doing during most of our clinical skills stuff last year. Exception being mock interviews, I think those are nice to have.

I'm already getting annoyed with the SPM (doctoring/small group) class. There's just so many readings, quizzes, diagnostic cases (which are cool but so excessive), and forums. I'd rather just study anatomy. The skills labs seem cool, but I don't start until this afternoon.

good idea!🙂. Running everyday since i started med school is really making a big difference for me.
I need to start. First post from the new phone!
Btw, people weren't joking when they said there is a ton of free food in med school. I haven't bought or brought lunch in two weeks.

Sooooo true. I've eaten more pizza in the past two weeks than I did all of last year.

Class is cool, but I'm sitting next to this really lame guy. He's a jerk.

Lulz.

In other news, I'm enjoying all of the free food during the first few weeks as a medical student. (EDIT: something, I didn't realize met just posted)

I love it!!! We have pizza a lot, but we've had Indian food, Thai food today (was awesome), lots of subs, wraps, burritos. I love that it's not too redundant.

 I love y'all!

Found this B-rate horror film whose tagline is "100% medically accurate". Do not read further if squeamish, lol

"The Human Centipede (First Sequence)"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1467304/

I just couldn't resist. 😛

...oh and it throws around a bunch of anatomy terms, but I'm pretty sure it still isn't medically accurate. You'll see what I mean.

Dear People Who Have Crossed Over:

I posted this in the 2015 thread but this may be the better place to ask.

Fellow 2015ers:

Like many of you, I check my e-mail throughout the day and check this site to see which schools have offerred invites (and more aptly, which schools have likely passed me over). I applied to a bunch of schools and have a couple of interviews and a handful of rejections. But silence from the vast majority. I am complete and in the review process but nothing but silence.

I understand that we are early from in the season but at what point in the cycle have most of the invites been given out? Put differently, when can we safely say, "ok, I have heard nothing and won't be getting an interview at [school]"? Would it be December, January, February, etc? Or how long is "complete and in review" without any word a bad sign?

I ask because this is the my first time in this game and don't really know how it is played. For example, I believe Michigan has already given out over 50% of its invites for the season.

Any thoughts?

As hopeless as it may feel sometimes when you don't hear back from schools within a month or two, "it ain't over, 'til it's over" holds true. There is always a shot before they reject you. If the school is especially important to you, let them know with update letters and supplementary materials. They can do a lot for you.

you need to relax. My school has given out 0 non-edp invites.

Michigan gives out a bunch of auto-interviews in the early summer (based on GPA + MCAT). That's probably why the high % of invites are used up. So I'm inclined to call them the exception rather than the rule.

I know my school doesn't send out any invites until early September.

Played some pool tonight and hit up the bars. Having to get up at 6 is cramping my style though 🙁

Just met with a urology PI. Really cool guy. Pumped to get some kidney research going, woo!

Aw man, I can't keep up with you guys since I've been so busy. But I have a REAL BED now!!! Wooo no more air mattress. My room looks like I really live here now. XD

yay!!!🙂

we have a test and i spent the night sleeping and playing poker, its amazing lol. I guess its no wonder im barely passing, thank god for p/f👍

haha i feel you-i have our 2nd test tomorrow and will probably hit my studying max in a couple hours. our first test was on a monday so everyone else studied all weekend...i went to a bridal shower/bachelorette party and studied about 2 hrs total lol. no wonder i'm barely passing too😛

i'm hoping that if i can survive this module (done after this test) with no time to study the weekend before the 1st test and having the flu since saturday leading up to our test tomorrow, the rest of med school will be a little smoother!🙂

i am finally starting school today. finally! agh!

good luck, i hope it goes well!!!
