Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
does mommy approve of you posting on SDN?

It's fun as long as you're not wearing heels and freaking out about the incredibly inane thing you just said to your interviewer.👍

Icing on the top!

Hmm, I guess I'm always having fun when I dress up then...

What did you say? Come on, spill the beans.

Mine's charcoal gray. What I like about it is that the pants are really narrow at the ankles. It makes me look taller.
Also got brand new shoes, with two inch insoles. Probably gonna change into something more comfy during tours.

Nice. Big pimpin'! Sounds like a cool suit.

What do you think about all-black suit, with black ties and everything? I was thinking about that but my mom vehemently said no.

Negatory, man. I know you're thinking Men In Black, but the interviewers will think they are standing at a funeral.

Stick with the gray option, but don't do a black tie there either. Ok, you should go black for your belt and shoes, maybe cufflinks, but nowhere else.

I'm class of 2014 (hopefully)! I don't post much because I'm new here, so I'm just trying to see what kinda info is on the site. And plus, it'd take way too long to read 63 pages of posts to figure out what's going on in this thread!

You know, if you donate to SDN you can PM memberservice (or whatever it is) to change your username. :d

lol ye i know
and i will donate...
but i wanted to make a new acct anyways...

This page sums up this thread... Thus far nothing really all that relevant except most of us are applying this cycle... Some of the less fortunate like Myuu and DrYoda are planning to start in the class of 2013, but I think they'll wise up and defer until we get there. 😉

hi allie! a/s/l???

lol
i hate dressing up😕
Ditto. A couple weeks ago I declined free beer because it involved dressing up.

It was nasty here today. At least the humidity hasn't really hit yet. I can't wait for thunderstorm season though.

You can do that? That's a great idea, but where are you going to keep the extra clothes? I guess they may give us breaks between the interviews and the tours. Any suggestions 2013ers?

No, No, No.
Maybe it it had stripes on it. Also, refrain from black shirt.

Recruit more from your school!

you barely joined, what do you know :laugh::laugh:

:welcome: nonetheless. a/s/l?
hi allie! a/s/l???
Does anyone ever actually answer you when you ask a/s/l? I've seen it like three times in the last couple days and never an answer.

Hi Hi 👍. Don't worry about catching up. I started to try but then just realized that it's a lot of blabber. Now a days, I just keep up with new posts.

No I meant I'm gonna change into more comfy shoes.

Wait, I'm confused... Are you trying to imply that you guys aren't? :meanie:

*******. hmph.

im in super shopping mode right now

would you think a short sleeved jacket would be too informal for the interview?
i keep seeing some really cute pant suits but with short sleeves

Yeah, I'd say it's too casual. I have this dress suit with 3/4 length sleeves that I absolutely love. It's grey with pink on it and I have matching pink pumps, but I'm not going to wear it, sadly.

Agreed! I would not wear short sleeves. However, you don't have to wear a black suit. Gray and the like are okay!

I refuse to wear black. I want my suit to stand out a bit, but not in a bad way.

lol
i hate dressing up😕

REALLY???? I love it! Something about wearing business-y clothes and heels gives me this extra confidence. Or dressing up to go to a dance or out. I just love it all. I don't generally put much effort into my appearance, but when I do, it makes me feel awesome.

div, you freaked me out. I just saw the avatar and thought it was the same person, then Lukkie pointed out the difference, so I thought you were different people, but I was right to start with.

:hello: What up, Allie???

I agree with 0C here. Yoda and Myuu should defer so they can be as cool as us. Even though I won't go to school with either of them. Actually, I don't even know where Yoda is planning on going. Where, Yoda?

That is so full of win. I would have admitted you for your confidence.

Ditto. A couple weeks ago I declined free beer because it involved dressing up.

You just lost your man-card, my friend.

Rule #1: Thou shalt NEVER decline free beer

No I meant I'm gonna change into more comfy shoes.

Tough it out, man. It's only a day. You make it seem like you're wearing high heels or something.

Beer is hella nasty. I hate it.

Blue, if I can get through the day in 3 inch heels, you can do it in your man shoes. They can't be anywhere as painful as what we go though.

*******. hmph.

Don't hate. It's ok, you guys can put sunblock on those necks and you won't really be able to notice... :meanie:

Uh, oh. So you're short guy thing doesn't seem to work out here... Poor little men.

All the smart girls usually do. 😉

I'm guessing she's hot, because I don't care how confident an ugly girl is she could never pull it off.

It's ok, I've got man-cards to spare. :meanie:

It was also an event where I would have stood out like a sore thumb. It was for the med school. All the second years finished class, then went to a hotel downtown for an open bar. I know a lot of the second years (I graduated from undergrad with them), so they all would have known I wasn't a med schooler.

Also, I feel like this smiley works for just about every single joke I tell. :meanie::meanie::meanie::meanie::meanie::meanie:

I didn't realize that it was supposed to be a mean face. I thought it was a confused face that then started laughing once it understood the joke. I like it better my way.

I have flat feet.🙁
But whatever.

Yes, but you aren't required to like it... As a man, beer is requisite.

I would never trust a man that didn't drink beer.

how do men like it at alll
its bitterr
and u can smell the bitterness before u drink any

But I actually enjoy the bitterness, it's all about getting used to it. Nothing like kicking it back with your buddies with ice-cold Bud Light on NFL Sunday.

Actually, I didn't start exploring IPAs until about the beginning of the year. Now I can't stop drinking them.

Yeah, but you were invited!!!

You need a new motto. You can borrow mine if you would like:

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission.

Moral of the story, go until they ask you to leave... Then it's a simple oops. I didn't know it was a private party, blah blah blah. Or talk them up, "are you professor so and so? I've heard so many great things about you from my friends who were in your class. I hope I'll have the privilege of being in your class for med school next year." This way you open up a dialogue with some overt brown-nosing, which is a great conversation starter.

You missed out, man... I think your remaining "man cards" start with "wo".

It's yumminess.

I feel like guys don't really like it either. They feel that they have to, so they train themselves to. Stupidness.

Maybe when they are 14, but by the time they have their 16th birthday men are all programmed to like beer and if they don't, well, they're not really men.

But I actually enjoy the bitterness, it's all about getting used to it. Nothing like kicking it back with your buddies with ice-cold Bud Light on NFL Sunday.

They need a beer cheer icon on here. I would have thrown one up for that one.

Not a big IPA fan, but I love stouts. Mmmmmmmmm. It's like candy in a can. Actually, my summer after my MCAT will consist of Neurosurgery shadowning... Beer... More NS shadowing... More beer... a little more beer... oh yeah, some app stuff... TBI clinic... MORE BEER!!! MMMMMMmmmmmmm I can't wait!

There are woman cards????

Oh yeah! The guys hold onto them for you and we pull them out when the occasion arises.

They consist of...

I owe my man a:

Insert whatever your man's hearts desire is here

Card disclaimer:

This service must be paid in full prior to the evening coming to a close and entitles you to one shopping day at x store. If said item is performed twice in one night your man might even accompany you and wait outside the store looking miserable, but don't worry, you love it when your man is miserable.

:meanie:

What girls are you dating that would ever agree to this card business? I do not need to sleep with anyone (or anything else of that nature) to be allowed to go shopping. I do what I want, when I want.

Ha ha. Suckers!!! It's about 60 degrees in Denver right now. Perfect weather... Too bad I'm studying in it though... 🙁

I think we can abbreviate Pirateinaskirts name too.

We could use a historical abbreviation, back in the day the proper terminology for a pirateinaskirt was a Wench. It could work. :meanie:

What are your 1-2 year plans that would keep you from matriculating in 2010 pirateina.... um... I mean Wench?

Hmm, haha....I'm not sure I like the connotations of the term "Wench" 😏

I am applying for a fulbright, but that is definitely a pipe dream on which I am not banking. I have a few backup plans as well though, and am really leaning towards taking a research/work abroad year in between.

And, regarding the current beer debate/discussion:
I like a good hefeweizen and certain green chile beers, but that's about it.

Toledo, although it could possibly change depending if and where I get unwaitlisted.

:nono: turning down an open bar is even worse than turning down a free beer.

I really don't think most beer is that bitter. But then I drink black coffee, so maybe I'm immune.

I generally only dress up when either 1. My career hinges on it or 2. I have incentive from someone lacking a y chromosome.

HA TOP!!

Same here.👍

Re: 0C and shopping

You'd be miserable standing next to GameStop?

Ladies, ladies... It was more for the guys benefit than yours. I guess it should have entitled you to a free day of house cleaning. ha ha.

By the way, I've never used one, but I could see the benefit of an IOU card if a "headache" were to ever arise...

See, I was going to fill out the card, but then I thought better of it...

Just kidding about the wench thing. I think most were barmaids anyway, not piratesinaskirt's. 😉

That would be awesome for the fulbright. I'm not sure why you're saying you aren't going to apply this year though? Do your research labs require a 2 year commitment?

Oh, by the way, Hefenweizen is good stuff! 👍

i think stress is getting to some people
or i just havent been long enuf on the forums to know

but in the past few days
