Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know where i can find some stuff relating like mcat scores and admissions or step 1 scores and residency? Something along those lines where someone did a real published report of these things???? I need to do a presentation on it lol....and i have no idea where i can find this info...any suggestions??

Any published info or info from a somewhat credible documented source would work!!! It can be on anything really just something with stats relating anything about med school and the residency process...

This is for med, based on GPA/MCAT

And here are some more tables, but I don't have anything on residency relating to mcat, unless you mean state of residence, which I don't think you do.

Thanks dude. But really anything relating to med school and some documented statistical study is cool informal or not. I mean it could relate major vs how well you do in med school, or soemthing.....literally anything. Would my best bet probably be just to go on AAMC and just search everywhere? Or is that stuff elsewhere?

Amex sux... I don't get the point of having a credit card you have to pay back at the end of every month. They say you don't have a limit, but that's bs. They establish your limit based an your average expenditures + some small margin. Their blue card might not be bad, but I got a sour taste for Amex when I was younger.

One amazing thing about amex though is their fraud prevention dept. They are very good and much more forgiving/willing to help then companies like visa...visa is ****ing gay and just wants to screw you where amex tries to do what they should, help their customers and forgive debt that is not youres...thats just from personal experience though from me and some others i know.

Why? Do they ask you that in their interviews? I can say I don't believe in altruism, but then follow-up with an explanation that clearly explains my motivations in a different light. They won't even remember that I said I didn't believe in altruism. 😉

On a more import note... 3000!!!!! :clap::hardy::clap:

Congratulations!

Last cycle their two major secondary questions were a) insert standard 10-years-from-now prompt and b) define altruism and give an example of an altruistic act you engaged in (3000ch)

Research is sooooo much fun.....

I just found out that I have to redo all the data on one of our measures for all of our subjects... Apparently, someone tried to recreate the form, but used the wrong numbers, so when I translated the information it was like 3 standard deviations above published means... 😡

Oh well, at least I know one of the things I'll be doing next week...

Ahhh, gotcha. Just because I don't believe altruism exists in its truest form doesn't mean that I don't believe people do kind things that benefit others. I would have just written my perspective and then given an example. I'm over trying to cater what I write to an adcom member, I'm onto telling my story instead. If they don't like it, then they are making a good decision for both of us, because they are saying I wouldn't be a good fit. Makes my decision easier.

It seems every time I write what I think they want to hear it comes across poorly, so I have to stick to my beliefs and see where it takes me. This I why I'm on edit #9 of my PS. This ones from the heart. 😉

I believe in altruism. Being altruistic is cool.👍

Yeah yeah... I tell you what, man. After working in research for a few years not that much gets to me anymore, but it's still annoying.

I remember a couple years ago I spent about three months warping our brains and generating a volumetric analysis only to find out when we were done that the updated software didn't attach our warps to our subjects averaged brains but rather the template Montreal brain... Needless to say, that three months went up in flames. Had to start all over again... That one got to me a little.

altruism doesn't exist.

Don't instigate the mod. She has more power than you.

OK, so I apply this week for a credit card in my name. I want to have it this summer, so I can build up my own credit history and not have use checks or cash for everything. Long story short, I go home a couple days ago for my brother's HS graduation and there's a letter from Chase - my app for the card has been rejected due to my "failure to establish a credit history." I'm like, WTF?! That's the whole reason I wanted the card - to build a credit history. So I call and get some jerk on the phone (after 10 minutes of computer-lady) and he basically tells me there's nothing they can do. . . So I'm going to be stuck with a credit card in my parents' name for a while 😡. I just don't understand why the hell a lack of a credit history = bad credit history. They don't want my business? Fine. I'll take it somewhere else

/end of rant

U can build your credit history through ur bank account and talk to your bank about the credit card. if u have no history they usually take $250 security deposit and issue you $500 card and since u have no history it should take few months and you should be all set so if u do it now then by August, if u use it enough, they should return ur security deposit n increase ur credit line (depending on how much u use n how u pay) i would suggest paying in full atleast 1st six months. Its just my suggestion, i am no expert but i helped my younger brother get credit card like this and he is only 19.

Blue, you keep becoming more and more - what's the word? - brazen/audacious/daring with your efforts to woo our fellow classmates. One of two things will happen soon, I think. Either a) you'll get lucky 🙂, or b) the hammer shall be dropped :beat:. Either way, good luck buddy

OK, thanks everybody for the credit card advice. I'll just have to find a card that will approve me. This probably means a higher interest rate, but that won't matter if I pay on time

Alright, I know the night's still young and it's a weekend, but I'm exhausted. Peace out

You read me like a book, MDman.

kissme! You like math maybe you can help me. When youre looking at statistical analysis and junk when it says like r=.68, the closer it is to one the more correlated 2 things are right? And if its like r=-.23 the closer it is to -1 the more inversely related they are? Like if r=-.23 then as x decreases y increases? God i hate math 😡. Why did my PI have to give me such a confusing paper to read when i dont understand anything about stats-_-.

i am in need of a really good book. i'm open to all suggestions-- not uber picky about genre. what's the best book you've read lately? none of this pretentious crap where you list impressive books you may or may not have read for a class; i want something i can read on the subway and not need a discussion group to help me appreciate it 🙂

If you are into LOR (Lord of the Rings not Letter of Recommendation), then try The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Pure awesomeness.

If you are into sci fi, Dune series by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson kick ass.

Every school in U.S. of A gets out earlier than mine. FML.

I just read Intern by Sandeep Juahar. I thought it was pretty interesting, giving a first-hand account of internship in New York.

Have you read Harry Potter? If not, you should. If so, then the best book I've read recently is um The Count of Monte Cristo... but that's reallllly long.
