How do you guys feel about using contractions in personal statements? I was reading a book of personal statements and some of them used contractions and some didn't. Are using contractions too informal? It would definitely help with the character count.

I didn't use them, but it's all about tone. If you end up using them, make sure it's for style and not for character count.👍

I used to like mine. Then it sat on my hard drive for a month. Now I go back and read it and want to change it. I don't think I will b/c then I'd have to get others to edit it all over again.

I would seriously consider spending more than 4 days on your personal statement. It takes a long time to get all introspective like that.

I think I used them all over. I was pretty informal on purpose. My mentality is, it's a personal statement, not a formal essay.
 
After june 2nd do some schools just send secondaries too you anyways? Or is there some way to actually get the prompt? Or are we forced to wait until at least the 24th? 🙁

Just shell out another 70 you cheapskate. It's a laptop, you don't want to be too cheap, otherwise you'll pay for it in other ways; loss of data, poor functioning, and the ever annoying faulting mouse pad.

I'm not a fan for personal statements, but under the right circumstances they could come across as acceptable.

Gotta agree with the 4 days to write the PS, unless they've been taking notes and mulling it over for a few weeks/months.


Hmmm, we don't have a Mo yet and some people still call Blue Elmo... Plus, Mo serves beer...


If that's the flow of your PS contractions could work. I just don't like them that much for formal writing.

:laugh: yeah i think, especially now, its prob not the time to be really frugal

personally i would rather pay double for a 13in laptop than a netbook

im nt 0C but becuase they have a very strong preference for virginia residents and even more for the locals

I remember him saying the number of OOS applicants accepted was skewed or something...anyways to whoever asked about the lakers im watching that tonight for sure! Hopefully the nuggets beat them down 🙂. yes thats right i live in cali but i hate the lakers 😉
