Ok so I did a visit to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine today, and on my tour we stopped and talked to some pre-M1's. No big deal, but never have I felt closer to being IN the medical profession, because these people looked no older/different/wiser/more mature than my soon-to-be-senior classmates in undergrad. All I could think was, "This could be me in exactly 1 year." 😱 😍

Hahah I was like 16 when I went and with my parents so this didn't happen to me. But my brother went with 3 friends during spring break their junior year of college and yes, people really did walk up to them and peddle drugs.

Make sure to go to Dunn's River Falls. It's a blast to climb it if you're into that kind of stuff.

If it makes you feel better im doing 45. But seriosuly its not hard...these things repeat themselves like crazy. After you write about 10 different secondaries you realize you can copy and paste damn near every essay to another secondary. Every school always asks like how u can add to diveristy or what makes you special. I cant tell you how many times ive copied and pasted my mt sinai essay to the others. Also most dont relaize theres a large amount of schools that require no essays. of the 45 im doing there are 14 that last year that had no essays making the secondary nothing more then a LOR and money request. So in reality there are only 31 for me to do at max...with the overlap between them id say there are maybe 23 or so i really have to do.

but you're totally right that there is great overlap and there's probably only like 4-5 main essays and then other smaller random essays that aren't hard at all

tulane wont take FAP and really the NOLA area scares me to death...id avoid that place like the plague. Not to mention with my app....id find it hard to believe that tulane would be the only place to accept me. I applied to many other similar lower tier schools id imagine it would never come down to tulane or nothing.

As for which schools had no essays last year....

boston (they have an optional one...that I would have nothing to fill out for...not to mention its optional and boston explictly states you wont be penalized for it.

The optional essays are all just like "do you have anything else you want to add" There are people who swear you need to say some BS about how you want to go to that school more then anything in world, while others fill out nothing and get accepted. my personal feeling is optional is optional and if they wanted you to say why school X they would ask. Not to mention i have no real reason to go to jefferson and the like. If i did say something it would be like uhh i like the curriculum, serving community, etc...6-7 sentances of bs later you and your interviewer are both wondering why the **** u wasted time writing that lol. 😉

secondary essays, like almost all essays, are never really that hard to write. its only difficult when you don't get interviews. at that moment, you are gonna be like... ****... i should have tailored each individual essay




also remember that secondaries are more than just essays. some will ask you to re-list activities/awards/etc
