Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yea, why the heck does VCU want SAT scores? Furthermore, why is it that they are requesting us to list which courses from our transcript are supposed to meet their prerequisites? I mean, isn't that THEIR job to determine? 👎

hey blue, i noticed you're in the middle of doing davis (i am too), wanted to run something by you.

for the "enhance the school's community" question, do you mostly talk about some activity that you've done that's unique that might also go in the Experiences section?

For the diversity essays i usually talk about one of my EC's, but since it could go in the Experiences section, i'm thinking i should write something completely different for the diversity essay.

ugh i am so bored . . . i'm kicking myself for not submitting my AMCAS earlier, i could at least be filling out secondaries now. but since i don't have an mcat score yet either i guess it evens out. i wonder what will come first, my MCAT score or my verification. (scores due 7/21, i submitted amcas 7/1.) anyone wanna make bets?? 🙂 i think mcat will be first.

maybe i should start drafting secondaries. i've only applied to 4 schools so far- rush, rfu, loyola and uic. do they screen for secondaries, or would it be pretty safe for me to start crackin' on those essays?

hope everyone's having a good weekend!! 😀

I'd bet on your scores coming first.

I talked about my personal qualities and strengths and how these would benefit the class. I didn't bring up stuff from the EC activity department.

I just realized I've received 16 secondaries and done 12 of them. It's going faster than I thought it would.

Sorta like me. No wonder it goes fast, I sit in front of my computer practically the whole day. Sucks.

does everyone have a least favorite secondary question yet? mine is "why this school?"

does everyone have a least favorite secondary question yet? mine is "why this school?"

Mine was "Do you have anything else to add?"

My answer was always invariably a resounding "No".👍

guyyyyys what makes me special? i am having a very hard time answering this for mt sinai. 🙁

does everyone have a least favorite secondary question yet? mine is "why this school?"

Why school X is by far the worst!😡. I mean do schools really enjoy reading the same **** about research/community/cirriculum/school programs over and over and over😕

you have a body of steel!:scared:. Seriously though I didnt like that question. I dont think my response was anything special.

ah, i wish i was in your shoes. done/received/applied: 10/17/27

6/7/14 for me

does everyone have a least favorite secondary question yet? mine is "why this school?"

Why this school is one of my faves. I hate writing/bragging about myself. I don't like the diversity one.

I know. They can't possibly get that much out of a Why school X essay.

OMG!!!!!!!! Harry Potter movie in like 3.5 days!!!! :soexcited: What am I gonna wear??? I dressed up as Trelawney for the last movie. It was by far my best HP costume.

lol wow i think you win in harry potter fan hardcore-ness. i line up for the midnight shows, but i don't dress up!

I hate questions like "describe a humbling experience" or "moral/ethical dilemma" or "failure and how you dealt with it". I find it very difficult to think of a good answer for these.. Diversity too. Don't like writing about myself (so.. hate this applications process)

you have a unique eye color and great hips and as$.

. . . just kidding. when i was trying to sell my eggs (i mean be a loving egg donor) i texted my boyfriend that exact same question while filling out an app and that was his wise answer. lol. 🙄

and i am also so excited about harry potter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and just think, by the time the last one comes out we will all be med students! i saw the first one when i was a freshman in college. so long ago! i bet ksmi was a freshman in high school then!

haha maybe i'll talk about my dedication to the gym. or maybe they'll think i'm a crazy person.

actually about 5 minutes after i posted that i came up with a pretty good way to approach that question. so i think i'm good.

I know. They can't possibly get that much out of a Why school X essay.

for realsies. i love that BU comes right out and says "you apply to a lot of schools and we don't think a 'why us' essay adds anything valuable to your app." thumbs WAY up, BU! 👍

Perhaps this thread should be renamed "Exclusive Club Thread for Very Few People."

😕😕😕😕😕

Can anyone explain how writing a sociology paper is different from a normal one? I need to take one upper div writing class in the fall so i can graduate. One class im looking at says its goals are

"2. to practice and enhance your abilities of writing sociology papers as well as critical thinking and evaluation of sociological writing:

Is that just BS they are writing like most classes do to make it sound harder or better then what it really is? Or are these papers different then normal english or other humanity essays?

🙁 Ya know, we're pretty accepting. There's new people around all the time. We'd never purposefully exclude someone. 🙁

Ok, so I bought a suit today. It was on sale and my friends were like in love with it. I'm just kinda worried it's gonna stand out too much. I refuse to wear black, though. I wanna stand out some but not like where I look unprofessional. I also tried on a white one I really liked, and I may go get that one if I decide to take this one back. But yeah, this one is blue. Like not navy, not royal, not pastel, I don't even know how to explain it. Kinda turquoise-y but not really. It doesn't really have any green in it, but I'd say it's that bright. It doesn't look like unprofessional, it's just bright. It's a really nice suit and it fits well, but I don't want to stand out in a bad way. Oh goodness.

At least I will be able to recognize you. A bright blue ksmi in a sea of black. Excellent.

You already know what I look like. Oh, why am I getting so freaked out about this suit? It's not that hard to return.

Come on take a picture. Let me see it. I'll give you an honest opinion.:meanie:

Ok, I think I'm gonna take it back. I'm just too unsure about it. I'll get something else, not black and not boring. But for the record, here's a pic.

I think you definitely should wear it. I have a light grey suit that I wear, and I get complements on it all the time because its out of the ordinary. One of my friends who just got into Columbia wore a purple suit to her interview and her interviewer actually complemented her on it. Break the mold! I would wear some low profile heels and jewelery though, dont go over the top with it.

I definitely want to wear something different. There is no way in hell I'm wearing black or navy or something boring. But I was thinking more along the lines of white or light grey or a deep red or something. But I think this suit is nice, just not sure. I definitely look better in lighter colors. And I was thinking plain white shoes (suit has whiteish tones in it, hope no one cares about the labor day rule) and simple jewelry. I know looking nice and standing out (in a good way) will give me more confidence, too.

No don't wear it. From what I've heard, people wear really conservative colors, black, dark gray, navy blue, etc. You definitely don't want to go to interviews wearing that. You'll stick out way too much. Just my 2 cents.

I don't wanna be boring. 🙁 But I think maybe this is like too much the opposite of boring.

OK, so now brings the question, who thinks interviewers actually care what we wear as long as we look presentable?
