Speaking of vegetables, I wonder how important this legacy stuff is at schools. I mean, why do they really care if your parents graduated from the school? If you have a relative that works there, or a parent that donates loads of cash, then I'd understand giving the applicant a little bias. Otherwise, I hope they throw that info in the trash.
 
So I'm waiting on one last LOR, and its been 5 weeks since I've asked. I've sent email reminders at week 2 and 4 and I saw him last week and he said he'd do it by this week but he still hasn't done it...I don't know what to do, I don't want to come off as super pushy but he's had it for a while now...What to do??
 
Also on the topic of vegetables, just how personal are we supposed to get in these personal adversity essays? I was going to paste in my usual school/life balance challenge essay for Case, but I feel like they want something more serious:

Please describe an overwhelming challenge when you were in over your head or felt personally criticized and discuss how it helped shape you as a person. You may discuss a moral or ethical dilemma, situation of personal adversity or other life-event you believe to have been an important hurdle for you.

Am I supposed to talk about death of family members? Devastating past breakups? I mean, seriously, I'm 21, I haven't had that many overwhelming challenges in my life...

i finally got verified (yes!) but my amcas GPAs are still confusing me. I have 2 separate GPAs for undergraduate, and postbacc undergraduate. I thought they averaged them together? I mean they are pretty close to each other but still . . . anyway I like my UG BCPM, it's the only one of my GPAs that's above 3.5!! (ok, it's 3.52 lol.) My 'all other' for UG is 3.45, and my postbacc (all BCPM) is 3.42. And my grad GPA is 3.29 🙁 (Those classes are hard though!!!!!)

the only reason i really care is i'm trying to figure out which ones to put in my MdApps 🙂

I dont think they expect some huge adversity like overcoming homelessness or other crazy things like that. Very few people at this age have had to go through that, especially those that are applying to med school since they are typically privaleged kids. I wouldnt talk about a breakup or other stupid things like that. Balancing school life sounds fine to me, if its truthful and not some bs you made up. Death in a family member could work if it truly affected you. Id say just go with the truth thats always what I do. Its usually better then random bs u will make up.

Thanks, I'll probably go with my previously written essay, it's truthful though not particularly dramatic.

But who am I kidding, this entire process is bs that I'm continually making up... 😛

where can i find a list of average ages of matriculants by school? (other than their individual websites)

if this info is in the MSAR i must be unable to find it for some reason . . . 🙁
 
try adding this feature to your progress charts; i think its quite cool! it tallies up the number of apps you have in each of your categories (i.e. 5 primary verifications, 8 secondaries received, 3 secondaries submitted, etc.) based on the color of the cell!

and you can recalculate it by just pressing ctrl+alt+F9

I swear I'd be doing more exciting things if the weather in Boston wasn't so abysmal. It rained 16 days in June, and it's already rained 18 days in July and it looks like it will rain at least for the next week. I played 18 holes of golf yesterday, and it looks like I won't get back on the course until August. Summer needs to shape up.

Blue -- I usually play in a couple of leagues each year. I haven't followed the off-season at all this year though, so I need to start looking into things before drafts start up.

It's a little more expensive than the other residences that BU owns, but I'll be on the 20th floor in a room with a panoramic view of the city. I figure I might as well live my senior year in style since I'm going to be in debt up to my eyeballs regardless of where I live. Hell, I might even get a foosball table.

Well, Brandon Marshall is going to be the #1 receiver in the weakest division in the league, although he has Kyle Orton throwing to him now. Orton's not terrible, but the Broncos are probably going to regret trading Cutler. Ochocinco is a huge risk, since the Bengals have no offensive line and 85's now the only wide receiver on the team that can provide a deep threat. Jennings and Gonzalez are both solid receivers for teams with great quarterbacks and well-established offenses. However, they're the #2 guys on their teams.

Marshall and Ochocinco are bigger risks, but they have higher ceilings if they perform well. Jennings and Gonzalez will definitely be more consistent.

I review mine way too often, but I always catch something that I think needs to be fixed. After two weeks I call it good and submit them. Seems to be a good policy so far.

Football is my life during the fall! 🙂. Personally I think that might be worthwhile. I dont think marshall will have a big year like last year with orton as QB, not to mention that whole organization is a mess, i dont think he will be super productive. ocho i think has the potential for a monster year, but its really uncertain as the carson has not been the all star since his knee injury in that steelers game, but id like to think him and chad are going to have monster seasons. Jennings i think will have a big year with rodgers coming off an pretty damn good season. And gonzalez i think will see a increased role since harrison is gone and reggie wayne demands double teams at all times. Gonzalez is going to have a chance to have a good season. He hasnt been a huge TD guy but i think thats going to change this year with his new role of more then a situational slot receiver. Also WR tend to reach their full potentials in their 3-4 yr if they ever do. This is gonzalez 3rd year i believe.

I agree with agro, consistancy = gonzalez and jennings. Possible monster stats = ocho and marshall but much more uncertainty.

yeah, I really want Jennings. Personally, I think he might explode this year with Rodgers more comfortable with the system. I wouldn't be surprised with 1400 and 10 touchdown season. And with Harrison gone, I think Gonzalez should have a break-out season with Reggie Wayne entrenched as the No.1 receiver.

But I don't want to give up Ocho. Carson's back healthy, and I still remember how Ocho used to light up the scoreboard back in the heydays. As for Marshall, I'm not so high on him. Orton's not a top-rate QB, and besides, Marshall wants out of Denver. I don't know how motivated he'll be. Arrrg!!! Such a tough decision!😡

does anyone know how much it matters if ure amcas id is on your letters? So far it seems no one cares but albany and nymc seem very anal about this...

As long as they are submitted through AMCAS, I don't think it should matter. I've gotten three interviews already and none of my LOR writers included my ID on their letters if that counts for anything.

maybe donald driver is #1 hes saying? though i disagree with that. Jennings has more Tds and yards than driver. Driver was the number one when farve was there but not anymore. Hes getting old almost done with his prime years.

Driver's past his prime. Jennings is the consensus No.1 there. Look at his stats last year, 1292 yards and 9 TD's. Definitely No.1 receiver numbers.
