Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
oh Spurs, I like you, but you gotta admit Spurs are too old now. I think their window passed last season.

Warning: if you're not a HUGE NBA nerd, just file this under TLDR.

I just don't know. We won't know until we get Manu on the court and see if he's really better or if his injuries the last two years have taken some of his explosiveness permanently. If he's 80% of the Manu we had 2 years ago before he broke down in the playoffs against the Lakers, then the Spurs have added Richard Jefferson, Antonio McDyess, DaJuan Blair, and a Tony Parker who has really come into his own as a top 10-15 player in the league to essentially the same team that went to the Western Conference Finals 2 years ago and was pretty clearly the second best team last year. Remember, the Spurs were one bad non-foul call from going back to LA tied 2-2 that year.

Pretty much all of the contenders have age/injury issues (Shaq, all of Boston's big 3, Jameer Nelson, Timmy/Manu, Bynum). Nobody's talking about it, but even Kobe is starting to show signs of aging; if you were watching the Finals, it's not really like he dominated, he just took a ton of shots and Orlando punted 2-3 games. Add in the facts that you have to wonder if Artest will cause problems (Kobe's not the leader that Jordan was, and Phil Jackson might be getting too old for those kinds of antics), and the Lakers don't look completely unbeatable. Frankly, I think the Spurs match up best with the Lakers of any Western Conference team because of Derek Fisher; at least in the past the Spurs usually had a Brent Barry or a Bruce Bowen out there that they could just tell Fisher to stand in the general vicinity of on defense and let Kobe and Ariza guard Parker and Manu, but how is he going to guard any of the Spurs perimeter 3 players now that Jefferson is in the mix?

Add it all up and it still doesn't make the Spurs the favorites, but they're not drawing dead, either. Incidentally, I really like Orlando this year; I think they're somehow getting forgotten behind Boston and Cleveland, but I think they match up very well with both of those teams and they managed to make the Finals even before Dwight Howard had any post moves.

Spurs, Kobe can take on the your entire team.🙄

We'll see, we'll see... they've got the best player, sure, but there are 4 other players out there. And the Spurs still have a bunch of expiring contracts...

Like I said, they're the favorites in September, but they don't give out the title right now.

...Not even you actually read that heinously long post, did you? 😀

I think that's a sign that you shouldn't write so much about boringness.

Nobody cares what you think.

No, that just means you're a sports bigamist. That makes you even worse.

I think we've had this conversation before.

What's a sports bigamist? I like two teams at once?

Explanation: I liked the Lakers when I was like 10. I still like them. I now understand that local teams are where it's at, so I follow, like, and watch every Warriors' game. But when they play each other I root for the Warriors.

Yep. Monogamy=love for one; polygamy=love for many; ergo, bigamy=love for two.

And not only are you a bigamist, your second team is the frickin Lakers! I mean, that's like rooting for the Yankees in baseball. If you're not from LA and you're a Lakers fan (or SoCal, I suppose, so you San Diegoans can have em), you have no excuse.

ksmi, spurs, play nice.

Never. He started it.

Yeah, wouldn't that be polygamist? Or something?

Oh, I guess that is a real word.

It's old-school, from when I was a kid. You can't hate on that. 😛

But for the most part you're right. I have a friend who likes the Lakers, Dodgers, and Patriots. He's from the SF bay area. WTF, right?

I guess I can half buy it... still, I guess that would put you coming on board right as Shaq signed there. I'd be able to respect it a little better if you were with them in the early-mid 90s when they sucked.

Never. He started it.

We've been over this many times. YOU started it (after Al started it) 😛

Oh, I guess that is a real word.

Of course. Did you think I'd just make stuff up?

Yeah, only problem is I'm already missing a test in that class for Baylor next Friday. I wonder how she would feel about 2...
Oh, wait just realized I also have a midterm the next day. So that's a no go. Looking like Oct 20th or sometime in November.

hey dude, we're interviewing at Baylor on the same day!

I first liked them in 1997. Basically when they got Kobe. I also like the Falcons, mostly because of Vick. I still root for them, though.

You are the only person I know that whines about having a wonderful girl like me e-flirt with you.

Of course. Did you think I'd just make stuff up?

Wouldn't put it past you.

... I think I care about sports (esp basketball) just a LITTLE too much, eh?

Ya think?

also, anyone interviewing at Vanderbilt on September 25th?

Kickass! We need to invent some secret code to recognize each other.
I'll be wearing a lime green suit with a bright pink shirt and tie.

Facebook group... duh. You have to go around and introduce yourselves to everyone, it was weird. But I'm pretty sure y'all will be able to find each other amongst the multitude of Texans.

Well, then maybe I'll wear a ten gallon hat and cowboy boots to blend in...

when we're all sitting around waiting for it to start, i'll just yell out: "which one of you is metallica?"

sound like a plan?

you go to baylor for undergrad? is it an awesome place?

... shoot me. 😡

I would learn that Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, is not in any way associated with the Baptist school Baylor University, in Waco, before arriving for your interview 😛

Because you have an e-crush on me??

That would seem to be the prevailing theory :sigh:

People should just accept that I'm a jerk 😀

lol, also i guess i should look at the text under people's names before i post things 🙂

But you really don't come off that way, except around ksmi.

Cmon, man, you've seen me in the mod forums! 😀

Haha no worries 🙂 And don't worry about the BU/BCM thing; I've had to explain that so many times. At least you learned that now, right?
