Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I do too. In PE, and they made an announcement for the whole school.

me too-i was in 9th grade history and we all were glued to the tv for the rest of the day. a bunch of my classmates had family members who were in the towers so it was really scary. the skyline does look so different now🙁 sept 11 will always remind me to really appreciate what i have because it can be taken from you any minute.

y'all are making me feel old -- I was a soph in hs. they announced it inbetween english and theology. The second plane hit in the middle of third period theo.

my dad (a commercial airline pilot) was on final approach into Raleigh -- he was one of the last planes to reach their final destination that day.

EDIT: Congrats Ciello!

I was a freshman, so hopefully sophmore doesn't mean old:scared:.

"Costs to travel between Duke and Raleigh Durham International Airport can vary. Car rental rates at RDU are typical and cab fare can cost between $25.00 and $30.00 one way. Over the! past several years, many applicants have used LTD Services for their transportation to and from the airport. There is a flat rate of $30.00 per trip. Hours of operation are 7:00AM to 11:00PM Monday through Friday. Visa and Master Card are accepted and advanced reservations ARE required. They have a toll-free reservation number 1-800-432-8008. The will provide transportation outside of regular hours or to and from off campus locations but there is an extra charge. Another alternative (particularly from Duke to RDU) is to buddy-up with another applicant or applicants and share the cost of a taxi if you are all heading to the airport at the same time."

that's really your best bet, honestly. You might want to take a look at the TTA schedules (Triangle Transit Authority -- RTP's version of public transportation). gotriangle.org is a site that has the scheds (i think?)

EDIT: If you're interviewing on Sept. 25th I can give rides in the afternoon or if you're interviewing around the 12th of October, I can give rides to/from the airport.

whoever has good luck on this thread getting whatever they wish for should help me out by asking that my PI goes home very early today... 🙂

I heard someone behind me talking about it while I was walking to 2nd hour Earth Science. I didn't believe that it was true. Then they announced it at the beginning of that hour and we watched the news with the Bible class next door. We saw the second plane hit and the buildings collapse. Weird day.

😀 I got the job 😀 !!!
Technically not official until I do stuff with HR but I dontcare, I'll be employed!!

Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not on a traveling project. I'm just headed up to Chicago to run a half marathon with my aunt. I commute to DC from Raleigh b/c 70% of my company telecommutes and I played the odds that I could live with my parents and save money like there's no tomorrow...didn't play out that way 🙁. So now I rent month-to-month, and drive 10 hours per week...unless I just feel like staying in DC for a weekend, so it's more like 10 hours every 2 weeks.

I'll start a true travel project in January -- that'll put me in Austin, TX 4-5 days per week, and they'll pay airfare/hotel/meals 😀.

BrooklynBlunder, what day is your pitt interview?? I think we got the same day

Good morning! All I care about is the Pats game, my school game, and the USC-OSU game. Sadly, I think Rockies have this in the bag. They just won't freaking lose!😡

You know it!!! Boooya!!!

Good luck in your half marathon! The Chicago marathon looks like fun. I watched a documentary on it a couple weeks ago.

Hey everybody.

Just got through with the day at Mayo.

Wow.

Just wow.

This school can not be for real. 240 USMLE 1 average score a couple of years back and usually 99th percentile. 6 weeks vacation plus (about) 20 weeks of selectives (ie. not normal class time). Patients really coming first. 90% of students get one of their top 3 residencies. 85-90% of students get published from their required research time. World leaders in almost every field who want to teach you. $$$$$ used wisely. They pay for your education (mostly) and supplement most any other type of education you want to boot (JD, MPH, PhD, Seminary 😕).

AMAZING STUDENTS and faculty.

Wow.

😍 😍 😍

THIS = perfect fit.

I just hope they agree. 😳

And now the wait...

(and I'm done, just had to share the experience)

That's great, man! It sounds like a great program. I hope it works out for you there.

Thanks!

Yeah, me and about 250-300 other people at least 🙂

One downside of having a class of ~40 MD students: lack of openings.

So how's everybody else doing today?

Doing anything fun?

bam, that sounds AWESOME! i'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :luck:

FIU interview went well, and I got an invite from Mt.Sinai. But all I can think about is the phone. Trying not to panic here.

Aww yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. I really hope you get in.

Grats on the interview. Luck with the phone thing.

Call your phone from a hotel or something, and offer the cabbie (or whoever has it) money to bring it to you. Like pay for the fare... ??

I called my phone but no one answers. W/e, I'm just going to disconnect the phone. I'm such an idiot.

Me= ******* idiot.👎

True, but they would not have called you in for an interview if they weren't interested in you. Also, don't forget, most medical schools offer acceptances to ~2x as many students as their class size allots, so you can pretty close to double that number and your percentages look a lot better. 😉

Congrats, man!

Dude, that really blows about your phone. You might want to try to call it a few more times to see if someone answers. As soon as it goes straight to VM you're in trouble... Also, considering you're in Miami you run a higher risk of international calls being made, so it might be worth it to just scrap the phone and report it missing. 🙁

It happens to the best of us, but I think you're on to something with that second part. :meanie:

Guys, this is a GREAT day...

Hopkins invite!!!

Well, if Mayo don't love me, maybe now I have another good option 🙂

(understatement of century implied)
