Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
if you have an interview on OCT 31st, do you have to wear a costume?

Yes, last year I totally went as Batman. Nobody would dare reject Batman.

Seriously, look it up in my MDApps. I had an interview that day 😀 Good luck randomly having an interview on a Saturday, though.

oh i have a mstp interview on oct 30th and on the 31st we are going around visiting the town actually

Really? I mean, USC is a contender, Oregon is solid, I guess Cal and Arizona are above average... but that's about it. UT is a favorite to make the title game, OU will be at that level once they get Bradford back (though obviously they're out of the running for practical purposes, they'll make it tough on anyone that has to go through them), OSU and Nebraska are solid, and Kansas and Mizzou could be really good (though we can't tell yet based on their opponents). To me, the Big 12 is just deeper.

The top of the Big 12 is better, but the middle of the Pac10 is way better than the Big 12.

Kansas State, A&M, Iowa State, Colorado are pathetic. Baylor, Mizzou, and Tech are servicable. Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma State are good. Texas and Oklahoma (mainly) are very good.

Wazzu is the worst team in a BCS conference. Arizona, Arizona State, and Washington are decent. UCLA and Oregon State aren't bad. Cal and Stanford are good. Oregon and USC are very good.

Big 12 has 4 horrible teams, Pac 10 has 1-3 horrible teams.

But SEC is still the best. 😀

i dont even bother, i just rock my white shirt. my biggest decision comes in whether or not i go with a baby blue tie or a navy blue tie

I dunno, I try to be different. Everybody and their mother wears white shirts to interviews. The shirt and tie color are where I try to be creative. I've done creme/pastel yellow, royal blue, and crimson so far this year.

For those of you without interviews during Halloween weekend, will you be dressing up? And if so, what will you be?

i think theyll take us out the night before so ill be dressed up as the drunk guy that saturday.

nah im kidding i hope i dont wake up all weird and stuff

Does anyone else get really annoyed by Chris Berman? I hate his sound effects, nicknames and he acts like he knows everything but he only comes in for NFL on Sundays and other various important events. He's involved very little in day-to-day ESPN anymore.

Well, with an extra 2 teams, you might expect the Big 12 to have an extra terrible team 😉

But even if the Big 12 has an extra patsy in there, I think there's a difference in the tiers; in my mind, Nebraska/Kansas/OSU>Cal/Stanford. I don't really believe that Oregon is THAT good, and I'd definitely take a healthy Texas or Oklahoma over anyone in the Pac-10. Even if you concede that the bottom rung us a little lower in the Big 12, the other rungs seem to be a step above the corresponding rungs in the Pac-10.

But yeah, the SEC is tops this year.

We can agree to disagree. We both have valid points. Plus, the season's not close to over yet. We can revisit this discussion after the bowls prove who's really good.

👍

I did light blue and a blue/green tie to play up my pretty blues at my interviews 🙂

What're you talking about?! I mean, we're behind the times here; the AP has been trying to declare the best team since even before the teams started playing 🙄

The AP has been surprisingly accurate this year for some reason...

Unfortunately, because of interviews making me cut my hair, I will not be able to continue my Halloween reign as Jesus. 🙁

I need to think of something else that's not centered on my hair, I'd been relying on it for too long for Halloween costumes... Plus, there's a football game that night.

Ksmi, are you a Saints fan?

Nope.

I'll be dressing up as an LSU colorguard member. What fun. 🙄

So last night I fell asleep around 8:30. Now I have to drive to school for class at 8:30. Then off to STL. :hello:

LSU colorguard for Halloween? Laaaame...

You should wear that to your WashU interview. Then...awesome.

I expect nothing less from the schools who will reject me.

I had a dream on Friday that not only was I not accepted to medical school, but that my employer fired me as well b/c they had anticipated an open payroll slot and had already hired my replacement. So I'm out 5k and unemployed. I haven't had a "cold sweat" dream like that since sophomore year of college...

i am sick and can't focus on anything other than the fact that i am sick.

if i am still sick for sinai on wednesday i am going to cry.

Dear brooklynblunder,

We regret to inform you that we cannot offer you a spot in our class of 2014. Unfortunately, we have to do this to ##% of applicants each year, all of whom, like yourself, are extremely qualified and that we fully expect to make an excellent doctor in the future.

Best regards,

Med School

P.S. This letter will self-destruct in 5 seconds.

ok -- random question that's been bugging me all morning...

ran 21 miles on Saturday--according to my 4 calorie counters, that equals about 3000 calories burned. Ate a 20 piece McNugget about an hour afterwards (845 calories, 50g carbs 50g protein). Dinner that night I had a normal portion (not one of those huge restaurant portions) of of goat cheese ravioli and some veggies. Sunday, I ate normally (maintained my 1400 calorie diet).

question is: how did I gain 5lbs??! 😡

Turns out the PhD interviewer didn't like me in our 15 minute speed-interview. I wasn't shocked to learn this, as he was probably one of the most intense, personality wise, of my interview season to date, but was blown away by the fact that one (apparently) awkward 15 minute session could so negatively counteract two great interviews with corresponding positive comments.

I'll miss you Wake. You were, alas, a great option. One I would have loved to have had.

Oh well.

Other fish in the sea. Gonna keep being myself and not let it get me down. Just kind of sucks having this news come first!

Just hope I'm not really coming across as an *ss in these things...😀

So yeah, I'm pretty convinced that Wake has a mean interviewer each day just to see how people handle it. I think that's just mean of them. Mine was pretty douchey and I don't think I did a very good job with his "concerns." He flat out told me that he didn't think I was culturally diverse because I went to school in the same city that I grew up and that I like the LSU culture. And he argued with me about my belief that scientific research doesn't offer as much of a diverse group of people to work with as medicine does.

Sorry about the rejection, bamtuba.

Yeah...I know what/who you guys are talking about. lol

Water weight? Do you normally run so much or is this relatively new? Because if it's new your muscles could be trying to retain water....? I'm not an expert though, so don't quote me..... 🙄

Your body is trying to tell you something ksmi. 😛

That I need to stop interviewing?

Yeah, it sucks. I had to apologize to all my Tulane interviewers because I had practically no voice. Still sick now. But I get a break from interviews after tomorrow. Woo!

haha at least you get a break now yay!

I'd go with the 20pc FRIED chicken nugget as the culprit... all those trans fats in their cooking oil
