jefferson is in the heart of philly. it has a upscale hospital on the main line/lower merion (where kobe grew up) thats like really nice. i think financially jefferson is a bit better now (both drexel and jeff have had their problems) and their ortho. surg program is like one of the top programs in the nation and they always take internally. most people like that school.

is jefferson near drexel? Would it be weird to send an in the area email to jeff if im interviewing at drexel on 11/3?

Also just curious i mean for those in the area emails...you just say u have another interview in the area, wnat to save money as u are flying from cali and would like to be able to have both interviews back to back...idk these emails just sound kinda arrogant to me...

i would say send an in area email to them

jefferson temple penn drexel are very close to each other

penn state is around 40 miles away, but why not just send it there


just say you will be in the area and that you would appreciate it if they could consider you around that time to accommodate your schedule and what not


philly people are pretty big on ignoring ppl but it cant hurt
 
i never understood why theres 1000 posts on the mens interview clothing thread

its not hard. solid colored shirt. whatever tie thats not obnoxious. hopefully a black solid suit, 2 buttons, only button the top button. black dress shoes, light black dress sox. undershirt. underwear. there

idk about black but yah i dont get why people stress. Its so easy for us to dress and look decent. Though ive seen some weird **** at my interivews...like mustard yellow shirts and green spotted ties............

I feel like for men it's pretty clear what you should wear to an interview. You do have a few options: suit color, shirt color, tie color, shoe color.

However, I think women have a much harder decision to make. It's a bit ambiguous what is acceptable for women to wear to an interview. It varies per region and per season. Plus, we have waaaaay more options than you gentlemen. It can get overwhelming! 😕

I think only 1 entry on AMCAS that didn't begin the time of my application. My GPA actually went down, as I took this music appreciation course just for ****s and giggles and got a C+ in it :laugh:. I thought since I didn't get credits for it it wouldn't count in AMCAS, still disputing that....

I have a dark blue, 3-button suit. Black is not a necessary standard.

I've been working so much lately (and sleeping so little) that I am getting sick. I guess I'll go take a nap now.

I've worn a dark grey suit to my interviews.. it's worked out pretty well so far. I was asking about Jefferson because I am interviewing at Drexel and I sent an 'in the area' e-mail about interviewing at Jefferson (the only other Philly school I applied to). I hear Jefferson is pretty expensive for OOS and a bit disorganized, but we'll see. I hope I get an invite there also because it'll motivate me to go to Philly for reasons other than just to meet up with that girl and go to the Drexel interview.

do everything earlier than other people are. dont be afraid to ask for what you want (shadowing a doc, letter of rec, etc.)

To start figuring out why medicine now... Otherwise, they'll just be going through the motions and might lose focus. I think once I knew why everything became easier. Just my take.

Don't wait until spring of Junior year to get clinical experience and other ECs; it's not all about numbers, and those are unofficial requirements. At the same time, don't feel like you have to be involved in anything, because numbers are still the most important part of this process and you don't want to overload yourself; furthermore, it's better to do 2-3 things really well than due 10 things half-assedly and make it obvious that you were just doing them to check off a box on the AMCAS.

This may not apply to your school, but it is a way to get around rules and class registration at UGA. Do NOT declare minors at first. Declare what you want to minor in as a major. Finish what you need to for the minor, and then drop back down to the minor. It allows you to get the classes you want without having to get the leftovers after majors make their selection.

Also, get involved! Freshman and sophomore year is the time to begin getting involved so that you can build up to leadership positions come junior/senior year.

Major in what you love and the grades will follow...don't major in biology because you think it will give you a leg up in admissions.

wish someone had told me it doesn't matter what you major in when I was a frosh!

get LORs after the class ends, UNLESS you know you'll probably take another class from the same prof down the line. One of my LORs is from a guy who taught 4 of my classes.

Edit: Exercise! Exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. And happy people just don't kill their husbands.

i'd stay stay the full 4 years. dont be like me and graduate early. take a year off if you want to. life isn't a race. learn to meditate. learn. talk. that undergraduate environment wont come again.

Yeah, I learned that later. But then I manipulated my major to take classes I liked.

It went pretty well, I think I helped the kid out a little. He went to my high school and was a lot like me. Plus, I raved about SDN.

I didn't discover SDN til' my junior year (last year).

agreed. enjoy yourself and don't focus soley on school! get involved in things you want to do-i.e. don't take certain classes, pick a certain major, or participate in extracurriculars just because you think that's what the med schools want to see (other than getting sufficient exposure to the medical field through shadowing/volunteering). not only will this help you to have fun in college, but you'll actually be more interesting to the adcoms than your typical pre-med robot type.
 
I actually feel like I have more free time now though, since I'm not really working. It's a weird feeling since SDN had convinced me I would be burying my social life for the next four years.
 
The only thing I wish I could have done in undergrad was study abroad. I really wish I did it but if I get into medical school I will try to to SOMETHING abroad.
