Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
figures that this was all because of girardi's overmanaging. just looking at the box score makes me dizzy-- how many freaking pitchers are you going to go through in one night? jesus effing christ, this is why joe torre was a better manager than you, girardi 😡

ugh serioosuly, there was absolutely no reason to take out robertson!!

Seriously. I just want to see a good series and extend the baseball season a little bit more!

anyone playing better than ryan howard at the moment?
Cliff Lee...? He's been the man hands down. But if you mean everyday player, then as much as I hate to say it/devil's advocate, maybe A-Rod? He's had one helluva postseason for once.

cliff lee is def a choice but i dont know man, howard just hit another 2 run homer today...

2 home runs and 14 RBIs in 8 games, RBI in 8 straight games (battin .404) tied for the record with Lou Gehrigh (who did it over multiple post seasons)

It's tough for sure. I haven't been watching closely enough but has he been playing a good 1B?

Yea that's kinda odd, but the good thing is you already have an acceptance in hand. Maybe you could try some mock interviews?

Interview skills do matter, and there is a myriad of things that you can screw up on. I interviewed pretty poorly last year and I had no clue why, 'cause I have no problem socializing or holding conversations and I don't get nervous or anything either. Turns out it was my posture and general attitude(i.e. unprofessional and lackadaisical), which my friends helped me improve. You could ask some of your friends to help as well. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone who knows medicine, just someone who knows proper interview etiquette. Maybe ksmi can help if she has time?

see that really scares me. :scared:

I think interviews go well, except I get lulled into this false sense of security w/ interviewers and I start shooting the breeze with them. I'm concerned that I'm being too colloquial or unprofessional...not that it really matters now that I had the last of my 6 interviews this morning 🙄.

Ah well, hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Keep on trucking, Metallica -- we've got a ways to go 🙂

lol, dodgers havent been hitting. hasnt really had to field like that. the problem is that the dodgers best player has been chase utley - he has had 2 end of the game errors throwing to first base

texiera has done a solid job at 1B though

yea i get a feeling that some interviews just dont matter as much (cough, Pitt)

Texiera had a crazy good 10th at first tonight. Talk about clutch!

Yee, ok. lol I'm really depending on my interview there because I'm a below mean stats guy and really liked it there.

i got the feeling that they were selling the school to you through the whole process, which means

1. they kinda have a clue of what type of person they want to accept
2. they want to impress people away from other schools through the interview experience

and i was impressed to be honest

pitt has some really cool people though. i really liked it there

but i get the feeling that some schools ranked 10-40 are looking to focus on numbers more and more (just me though)

Gah. Hope not, otherwise I'm caught in the middle. Or maybe that just means I'm Top 10 material! heh heh

are the rankings online for free? I've honestly not looked at rankings at all since 06. I'm curious to see where I've applied 😛

i havent looked either to be blatantly honest. i just made **** up. but lets be honest, some schools are pretty obvious in going after the high numbered people and i dont care at all. if they are cool, can hold a convo, know what they are getting into + they worked the hardest/achieved the most, they deserve to get into...michigan.

the only problem that could be is too much of the class could be similar.

hahahaha that was a literal laugh out loud moment for me.

...now let me go tweet about it...

I wonder how much numbers had to do with me after the interview? My MCAT is probably about 2 or 3 pts lower than their averages. But then if they didn't like my numbers why would they invite me? Or is it the whole package?

I find myself asking these questions that have been asked 2130575765 times on this forum.

yea i dont know man. i have to wonder as well, cuz my GPA is tad under 3.7 and even with a whatever a high MCAT means, I know I will be excluded from some schools even after an interview.

I'm just not in the mood to waste my time interviewing at places I have no chance at, you know what I mean?

Word. But there's always that "what if..." that pokes you in the back of the brain that gets you to go... lol

Truth. You would be surprised how many of my students (at the MCAT class I teach) said they had some kind of huge computer problem during their exam but didn't void their exam, because of what-ifs

Same here. Who knows?

Yee. That is a wrong kind of what-if, especially if the computer problem is major. Someone didn't follow the Kaplan method... lol

yea. well, their loss = my money. sucks, but well... thats medicine in general huh

i think im going to leave the prep group and start my own ****, enough people have asked more than enough times that i might be able to take that chance.

you've worked in finance... is there anyway i could sneak into this year's recruiting and try to get a job offer to start in January and so (and quit before med school) instead of next fall? is that ever done?

Nah. Usually recruiting is done in September and early October at the latest. Then you start the next Fall in most cases. Also, many require a 2-year commitment. I thought about doing the same with my year off, but I realized that my life would suck working 100hrs/week and trying to go through med school applications, lol

yea. i went to a school which is pretty banking/trading focused. i really wanted to take this job in amsterdam/chicago as an options trader, which would have been cool but idk if i would have been happy. i wouldnt be as poor as i am now though... maybe i would be. i wanna get out of the lab for a few months before med school though. i cant see that happening. the most would be like... working for a pharmaceutical, which would still be a laboratory

how sad is SD on special teams...thats sad making royal look like hester

ibanking would be pretty cool though, i always wondered what the fuss was about

the episode of the office where Ryan tells Michael to tell girls that he works for a bank is hilarious

Royal is going crazy. Remember Dante Hall?

What's your degree in bb?

I know! Royal went off on SD. He's either really fast or SD is just taking god awful angles... perhaps both?

My degree is in economics. Did a lot of ECs related to management consulting and finance, though. That kind of gave me the "in" and made these places even consider me. It's very white shoe/old man's club sometimes for those not in the Ivies.
