Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
where do u guys book most of your flights? Just like orbits, priceline, jetblue etc? im having trouble trying to find a flight out of NY at the time i need 🙁

Check sidestep.com to see options.

Then I usually book at the individual airline sites.

Some of these sites do not include Southwest, so you should also check them separately.

Orbitz will often show you a price that no longer exists - very frustrating to go through the process, pick a flight, and then press the button to find out the price no longer exists...

i read that letter...its the most confusing acceptance letter of all time ahha...but at least ure in thats cool 🙂. now just me and jackson need to get some acceptances lol

yes i agree! it's our turn gosh!😛

so... i am officially done interviewing until december 2! a month-long break, hurrah.

now that i've been to 8 interviews and done some thinking, i shall re-do my rankings 🙂

1. harvard
2. mt. sinai
3. NYU
4. cornell
5. umass
6. downstate
7. einstein
8. nymc

i feel like this is misleading, though, because i did really like the first 7 overall. the main reason umass is lower now is because it's really sinking in that i would have to get a car if i went there.

dang dw, how did downstate and umass fall so far?

MSSM should be Number 1.😀

the top 7 are all very close!!! and maybe i'd switch downstate and cornell. idk, what's really clear right now is my top 3. i'll be lucky if i just get into one of them though

Not quite. There be other people.

like me!!!

hopefully you'll have some great/difficult decisions to make in the spring!

I don't know which Bio class to schedule next semester. I'm talking to a professor about Neurobio next semester to see if I can get in without the prereqs.

I think my options are that, Microbial Physiology 👎, Endocrin (which would take away my Friday off), and Human Disease (taught by the professor that made me leave her lab last year).

Tough call.

When are you taking Biochem?

I'm going to be a doctor.🙂

Woo!

Practice got uncanceled. Hmph.

Haha thanks, it's FIU but they have this weird thing with "alternate list" for acceptees. I called and they said I'm in for sure, but the term is surely confusing me. W/e.

But yeah, huge weight off my shoulder.

Congrats man! If you're on the 'accepted alternate' this early, then you're basically a shoe-in to get in. People who are placed on this list at the end of the cycle, though, may not get in. Basically, they want you, they just don't have enough spots. Obviously, this early in the cycle, a lot of spots will open up and since you interviewed so early you'll be near the top of the list.

Oh I see, that clears it up, thanks. Wish it was a straight acceptance, but I'll roll with it.

Thanks all. But what is with this "goncrats" business?

wow, A.J. Burnett looks AWFUL so far in this game

Man, my interview at Downstate was with this really serious dude. He hardly ever smiled and talked we went over my application extremely thoroughly. He questioned me on just about every single thing on my essays and my AMCAS profile. I spoke with a 4th year about the dude, apparently the guy's REALLY accomplished and has his pic plastered all over their building(I didn't notice tho), and is just a serious guy.

yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

thanks!

My interview at Downstate was my best so far. Sorry about your dude.

thanks!

Yea, hopefully I did well. He actually knew the process of electron microscopy, so I couldn't BS about the crap I did in that lab. He stared at me intently while I was talking the whole time, and it really didn't seem like he would sympathize with the problems I had during undergrad(which, btw, can be tough on a young guy but probably would seem like trivial matter to a guy like him).

I BS about my research at my interviews. At MSSM, the doctor asked me about my research, but straight up told me he knew nothing about my research topic, so I immediately launched my BS. Dropped a lot of enzyme names and nomenclatures, sounded impressive even to me, so maybe he was impressed too.

:laugh::laugh: good job.

 i wish i heard that interview. blue gets impressed with his enzyme name dropping.

Me too. I don't even completely know the exact specifics of what we're doing in my lab, so I'm very generic about the whole and everybody is like - "cool, nematodes"

Everyone just looks at me all bored-like when I talk about my research and are like... "And why is this relevant?" Math is so misunderstood. 🙁

yeah, well math is you know, math.

what IS your research? i'm curious to hear the blurb you give to interviewers... 🙂

Basically, creating a mathematical model to mirror the transmission of waves as they react with a periodic structure.

Cue blank e-stares and "math is boring" comments.

This is not what I tell interviewers. I obviously explain things more, but I don't feel like it right now.

but that is awesome. I can BS so well if that was my research.

 i get the same bored looks...computational biology ftw

apparently i got accepted today at UofL. that reduces stress a lot and i can now change focus to looking for new jobzz

minneapolis/st paul is a cute city btw, everything is so new

Congrats. Dude, isn't it huge weight off your shoulders? I feel like I can finally breathe again.

ahhhh I can't take the waiting anymore 😛 none of my early interview schools have sent out acceptances.

Congrats to all the future MDs in the house 😀

as for research, I explain what the goals of my research were, and just try to glean over the fact that it was ultimately a failure because we couldn't get the key step to work

Yeah I wouldn't explain it like that 😛

If I could go back, I might've done the full-on math major, or maybe physics. That stuff is way more fun/interesting than, say, random bio classes, and what WAS interesting in those classes, you just get again but in 100x more depth in med school.
