Actually, life is very good right now. Once you get an acceptance, the game really changes. And the stress level goes WAY down...

Hard to believe that none of this has to be finalized for almost 7 months (May 15), and for lots of people it will drag into the summer...this whole med school admissions process is the biggest "hurry up and wait" thing I have ever experienced - I would NOT want to go through this again.

Well apparently submitting early doesnt really matter if put on hold or alt list, by comparing with all later interviewees...kinda takes out the early factor. Guess good applicants can apply late and get in anyway

Well, I have an acceptance in hand that I would not have if I had not applied early...and the stress relief of having that acceptance in hand in October trumps not hearing from schools for months from now, even if those result in acceptances, too.

There is so much agony and uncertainty built in to this process (rolling vs non-rolling, etc), and I guess what I am saying is that it is crazy to add to the agony by being a late applicant.

Actually, not true. If they're really really late, unless they apply to non-rolling schools and they are significantly amazing applicants, they can possibly not get in.

I heard of many high GPA/MCAT students being waitlisted and not getting in because they applied late. At the same time, I can't say I know exactly all there is to know about their ECs and Research...etc...

I agree with this.

Even if admissions decisions are "non-rolling" the granting of interviews is more or less "rolling" and the later applicants face a dwindling supply of interview slots. Pritzker does a very interesting podcast presentation on the odds of getting an interview for an early versus a late applicant - it is a staggering difference, on the magnitude of 10 times harder for the late applicant.

QFT. My friend told me of someone at her school who applied late with a 3.9/40+ MCAT, and got nothing. A year later, he applied early with essentially the same application, and he's at Hopkins. The importance of applying early can't be overemphasized.

I feel the same way, but in reverse. Some of the schools have risen in my mind after I left.

And the indifference toward the non-interviewed schools, I know exactly where you're at. I applied to all of these schools thinking I could see myself going there, but once you go on interviews and see places you start thinking about stuff and picturing yourself places.
 
Yeah I applied late last cycle and didn't get in anywhere... I applied with the same stats this year and got 4 interviews already, just goes to show what applying early will do for you

I was really bad at orgo, but I don't think anything would happen.

I didn't do very well in orgo, but I would think nothing would happen also... First I thought maybe the alcohol would be deprotonated and then would attack the carbonyl carbon, but since it's a tertiary alcohol and a ketone, there's a lot of steric hinderance...
 
It's nice here. It rained yesterday, but definitely not as much as was expected.

It's also Friday though...don't forget about that. 🙂

Now I have absolutely no idea what classes I'm going to take next semester, and I schedule on Sunday. :scared:

I'm normally extremely prepared and would already have 3 or 4 various schedules planned out by now.

Wow. I have a problem of wanting to take too many classes, but I obviously can't fit them all on my schedule. :\

I have 2 problems. First, I need to take some physio/molecular bio class and I'm very picky about which one and they're all crap next semester.

Second, it's my last semester so I'm trying to arrange a schedule that works for me. A lot of the classes I want to take are at the same time, too.

Thanks. I didn't like Tulane better than LSU-NO, nor did I like LSU-NO better. I feel like they're pretty equal in terms of resources, at least with the factors I was looking at. The only thing that I thing separates them (to me) are price and composition. The price thing is obvious, but when it comes to classmates, going to Tulane matches you up with a lot of people from all over.... at LSU it's obviously just LA residents...you know?

I'm sure there's more (like I love how LSU does its ped rotation at Children's) but they're generally similar to me. Have you interviewed there? Did you think one was better than the other?

I didn't apply to Tulane, because it was too expensive and they basically have the same resources, like you said.

You mentioned the whole LSU-just-LA residents thing, and that's one of the main reasons why I'd like to leave if given the option. It would be like having various college classes over again with the same people that I wasn't really a fan of. I also just want to be somewhere new and different for a while.

Agree with the LA thing. I feel like it'll be the same ppl from undergrad. I'm not so sure about that.

I think it wouldn't be that bad. I think me and metallica have been around these kids for 4 years and have some preconceived notions. They were a bit annoying as freshmen but I'm sure if I actually talked to them now, we could get along. I just want to meet new people from different places, ya know?

Probably a matter of "familiarity breeds contempt" that would not be limited to LSU but to any other state med school that doesn't allow OOS folks in.

Going OOS, though, can carry a pretty hefty price tag.

Yeah, makes sense. I guess I didn't have that problem since most of my school is actually from OOS.

Like, say, Virginia 😍

One of the best features of UVA Med School is that instate matriculants are capped and half the class is OOS - I think that greatly enriches the student body.

If I lived in LA, I would be inclined to get the hell out, too.

No, I actually love LA - one of my favorite places to visit - but I don't want to live there, or be there, for an extended period of time.

Louisiana, especially south Louisiana, is quite provincial. There are people in New Orleans who have never left the city limits - you may know people like that, too.

I know someone in admissions at LSU-S med. He said some of the south LA applicants who come interview had never been north of Baton Rouge, and worse than that, were some of the least traveled people they ever see...he said some of them walked around Shreveport as if they were on another planet.

Funny, I assume that everyone assumes I am a guy...and they might be wrong.

My strong suit is writing. I have a lib arts background, speak several languages, have lived abroad...not your typical premed...and I think my background, and my ability to express myself well in writing (like the PS), have really helped me stand out in this process.

Trust me, that is not just Louisiana. Many parts of Georgia, and I am sure other states as well, are like that.

I know you are right about that...it is true here in Virginia, too.

Having spent some time in Kentucky and West Virginia, I have no doubts about it.

very cool. i speak 3 myself, but i would love to be fluent in more languages, especially because i love to travel.

where did you live when you were abroad?
