Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can't. The rec doesn't do those class over break. But once the semester starts again I will. Running at home just doesn't have the same appeal. Maybe I'll see what FitTV has to offer.

Have you ever done the pilates workout videos? They're some of my favorites.

Hmmm, videogames are a good idea. Maybe I'll get him a best buy gift card since I have no clue what videogames he has.

Gift cards could be good... It will let him decide what he wants.

In relation to Alabama's vs. Stanford's schedule:

Yes, Alabama played 5 teams ranked at that time: Virginia Tech (7), Mississippi (20), South Carolina (22), LSU (9), and Florida (1).

But Stanford played 4 teams ranked at that time: Washington (24), Oregon (8), USC (9), and California (25).

Not an appreciable difference.

And if you look at teams Alabama and Stanford played that are currently in the top-25, it looks even closer:

Alabama played VA Tech (11), LSU (12), Florida (5).

Stanford played Oregon (7), Oregon State (18), Arizona (20), and USC (24).

Saying Stanford played a 'tough' schedule doesn't work when we're trying to say that the Pac-10 in general wasn't that great and all their ranked opponents were Pac-10 teams. The fact that USC is even still ranked is a joke, but rankings are just a bad way to look at this.

It is admittedly difficult to compare two conferences by any method, but the SEC is just a rough and tumble struggle the entire season. Tennessee and Auburn did a better job challenging Alabama than VT did. Does that mean those teams are better than VT? No. But it does highlight just how difficult the conference is; even the average teams are strong. I just don't think the Pac-10 can compare with that.

And when you admit that LSU/Florida/Alabama would destroy any Pac-10 team, and those same Pac-10 teams could only beat up on each other without any real separation the entire season, one is left to conclude that those teams would, at best, be in the middle of the pack of the SEC...and those are the BEST Pac-10 teams.

And regarding the Duke curriculum, they condense the basic sciences into one year, start clinical rotations in second year, and then take the third year to engage in scholarly investigation. This means you can either take a year of research, or work toward another degree like an MBA or a JD.

What I have not yet been able to determine, however, is when the students prepare for Step 1 and how much time they are given to do this.

Yeah, running is lame. What about that other class you did last summer? Was that through the rec center too? If those are all no goes, maybe you could go to the rec center to use an elliptical or treadmill so that you can at least watch TV or do something else to keep your mind somewhat engaged; but I agree, mindlessly running by yourself=boring.

When do your practices start to gear up for the Capital One show? That should help too.

boys are so easy to shop for... i got my boyfriend a wii game. 😛

Oooh what did you get? I'm totally out of touch with what the games to get this year are.

we were supposed to have gone to Atlantic City tonight, but people sleep way too early.

At eleven? That's pretty weak.

They do it after their 2nd year or before their 4th. So their 3rd year, they can make whatever time for themselves

they haven't slept yet. but they just dont want to stay up til 6 am with me.

i'm all or nothing. gats and holster girls on shoulders

I know at Baylor we pretty much do it whenever we feel like it. Doing the condensed preclinical curriculum gives us something like 40 hours of elective credit. So what a lot of people will do is a year of clinical rotations from December 2nd year to November or December 3rd year, take a few weeks of that elective time to either just completely take a break and study for Step I or do something like a research block on a project that has a lot of downtime (think lots of mindless PCR), and then take Step 1 in January-ish of their 3rd year (I think... it's something like that anyways). But if someone wants to take it at the end of their second year, or even all the way at the end of their third year, that works too; basically it's just whenever you feel like you want to squeeze it in. Our step scores are always great, so if anything letting students determine their own studying course of action seems to work great; if I'm not mistaken, that's a general trend among condensed preclinical schools that step scores are higher.

No, what I'm saying is that I believe the SEC is very top-heavy. But you're right: it's pointless for us to debate which conference is better. There's just no way to accurately and objectively measure.

So the difference between the conferences is minimal, which means that the schedules are less of a factor to be considered for Gerhart vs. Ingram.

Gerhard had 11 more touchdowns on a team that played from behind more this year (which should mean more passes).

I know each award has different voters, but it doesn't make sense that the nation's best RB (Doak Walker Award winner) would come in second to the Doak Walker award runner-up.

It happens pretty often with those college awards, iirc. The 'Best XX' awards it seems are weighted toward strict numbers. The Heisman, in my opinion, takes into account the performance of the team and the importance of the player to the team.

Yeah, I'm gonna go get some workout DVDs soon.

Well, summer that wasn't the rec, but I can't do that either. Yeah, I can do elliptical but it gets boring after awhile. I'll probably try and do that every other day or something. We'll see.

We really don't have that much practice but on the 27th.

I'm being a fatty. Someone make me stop. Someone tell me about the wonderful successes they're having with losing weight so that I can be motivated. It's just so hard at home. There's food everywhere.

You are so not a fatty! I just restarted my exercise regimen, so I haven't lost any weight, but I did 50 crunches and some extra stuff. My arms are so very sore.🙂

Every other day (3-4x/week) would still be pretty good.

When do you go to Orlando?

Oops I meant the 28th. And we leave that night.

Well I'm sure Disney World will be a good cure for your boredom 🙂

Have you succeeded in stopping the snacking tonight?

pchem has sucked out all my brains.
what will i do now!

Brains are optional for med school. I'm in total zombie mode right now.

And I'm off. 😀

OMG, it is flooding like a bitch in NOLA today.

I am in the mood right now to leave if I get into VCU, unless it floods consistently in Richmond.

The rain just won't stop. I can't go out tonight because everything is flooded, so I think will just go back to BR like I originally intended.

haha i've never heard of it flooding in richmond so you should be fine. norfolk on the other hand apparantly floods like crazy sometimes so that'll be a pain if i go to evms.

On the topic of x-mas:

Gift ideas for a 13 year old male... GO!

do you have a price range? i'm getting my brother (he's 15) a cool pair of headphones that have a remote control on them so you can change the volume and switch songs without having to use the actual ipod.
