Yeah, the Rock and Roll 26 is actually favorable for my schedule. It's on 5/16 in Cleveland. But I wanna save that for another time. This one will be my first marathon so I wanna make it an extended trip to somewhere I've never been 😀

After that, Columbus marathon in October

Come to Cali!! Gorgeous summer running weather. There are many in SF Bay Area and in So Cal. If you do the SF one (end of July I think), you get to run across the Golden Gate Bridge.

ooooooh....definitely gonna have to do this at some point

I would come to Cali... just need to find someone to drag along with me for these adventures. Only bad thing is none of my friends run, so I'm stuck doing the marathon by myself. But atleast I should have someone to celebrate with when it's over!

agreed - a running and/or travel buddy is a must. its not enough fun to finish, pat yourself on the back or throw a few air high fives and say, "good job, self." plus, you need someone to drag your tired tush home.

hi everyone! you guys have been busy!!


i accomplished my goal of tiring out the children🙂 first we played in the snow, then i took them swimming (at an indoor pool of course haha). it was kind of funny to put on snowpants and big jackets one minute, then an hour later be in bathing suits.

I know... I dread that. Also, training by myself has been a bummer somedays. Especially the sunday long runs... my mind just wanders and you have to go so damn slow... it would be nice to have someone to converse with.

i'd run with one with you! probably not this summer though, i don't think i'd be ready considering 4 miles is the most i've run at once haha. i'm thinking maybe i'll do half marathons in may and sometime this fall, then do a full marathon next spring.

i know! its incredible. they showed a superimposed image of him and another boarder. white was 6-7 feet above the other guy.

nope, i graduated in may. you're right-i'm a full time nanny for a 4yo girl, 7yo boy, and 12yo girl🙂 usually i work 1130-530 but its school vacation this week so my hours are 730-530 and i have to work extra hard to entertain them!

join us i think its summer! i havent even ran 4 miles!! i think the most i've done was 3 miles and i was dead after that 😱

So is there a way to train to become a faster runner? Right now, I am super slow.
 
Work on getting in fit aerobically first before you start worrying about speed. Once you can get in 4-5 miles without killing yourself, you can start concentrating on speed work (usually doing some variation of distances on a track)

What's the best way to build it up? I tend to kill myself pretty quickly when running.

and the whole go slowly and build it up over time doesn't seem to work either.

Well, I can do that. I usually run 3-6 miles per day. I'm just really slow. Maybe a 10-10.5 minute mile.

its good that you have a base 3-6 miles. you can try interval running. do 1/4, 1/2 mile or 1 mile intervals, focusing on maintaining a certain speed. start with only a few and work up to 5 x 1 mile, for example. there are many running books out there as well to give you good training ideas.

So my freaking TV that I've had for the grand total of 1 day (now it used but still not very old) won't turn on. Nothing.

I just set this up yesterday and had to rearrange my whole freaking room for it. I can't get this monster down from my dresser! And then where will I put it?
