It's understandable, especially coming from a PI who you really respect. But, it happens all the time man. Look at all the people who talk crap about Obama, but that doesn't stop him from doing his thing. A biology student at my University fainted at the site of a cardiac puncture on a rabbit in the same lab I work at. His PI told him he doesn't have what it takes to be a physician. That same student is now the head of surgery at beaumont hospitals. True story.
 
I also know how much a breakup can affect your work if you let it. I actually ended things between a girlfriend and it messed with me so much. I failed all my exams that week and just didn't get anything done whatsoever. Literally, I stayed home and missed all of my volunteering and research. It was so stupid on my part because I let it get to me and I let my emotions control me. It's hard to fight off those emotions, but you just have to know how to deal with them in a positive manner. Crying is great and healthy if you can do it. Some of us have less healthy ways of expressing our stress and emotions.

It's funny because my PI told that story to one of the freshman who was scared to work with animals. Yet he talks crap to me all the time 😡. It's alright though because he makes up for it by teaching me a lot. It's just easy to let him down because he has such high expectations. Sometimes PI's just need to step back and realize we're college students. There's only so much responsibility we can physically handle, ya know? Sometimes the pressure they put on us forces us to crumble, but you just have to fight through it.
 
Two more weeks dude that'll fly by so fast and you will look back on this and probably laugh ya know?

Gotcha. One thing, though: sometimes it's more important to embrace your flaws than to be perfect and unchanging. Just something to think about.

She told me she looked at moving out the end of this month and subleasing somewhere else but I don't think thats going to happen. It kind of sucks two ways.
1. I'm living with someone who kind of broke my heart.
2. It's nearly impossible to start dating again while living with an ex. Saying that to a girl is like saying you have AIDs.
 
You're probably just letting everything build on top of itself. Once one thing gets better, everything will.

Don't worry about your PI, it seems like you have to be a douchebag to get to that point in most cases. My last one was really bitchy and hated everyone.

It sucks man. But you don't necessarily have to start dating right away. I mean it's not a good situation to live with an ex, but it'll work itself out with time. It sounds like you have a little bit too much on your plate to look for a new girl right now, but I'm sure it'll work out soon ya know? Just focus on what's important right now which is finishing off these next two weeks strong. Then you can work out your living arrangements with your ex. As for now just try to avoid fighting with her.

Dude you haven't been out on the market in a long time. Believe me, it'll be refreshing to test the waters. I immediately regretted breaking up because I had the perfect situation. Really, this girl was the perfect girl. Boy was I wrong. Plus, you don't want a girl who is willing to break things off after five years man. Most marriages don't last 5 years. Just relax, finish off these two weeks strong. Then you can go to every bar in town and every party and focus on finding the right girl, or even better, letting her come to you.
 
do you have a sure bootycall back at home from high school days? a somewhat nice girl that might not have graduated from hs that still hangs out on my space and is constantly looking for a guy? maybe a brown bagger? sometimes they are good for some spirit lifting

No seriously, we started dating when I was in high school and now I am about to graduate college. Its ****ing weird trying to date again. Sometimes I wonder if I should buy a couple books on it or something?!?

Same with me man, I was dating mine from junior year. It's weird getting back into the game. But it's amazing seeing what's out there too. I've met soo many cool girls that I would otherwise not know existed if I was still dating. Believe me man, just kill these two weeks and you'll feel so good. And after that, when you get your head on straight and your mind right, you'll be able to accomplish anything you want to.

I probably won't be there this summer unless I can find somebody to lift with, stuck around 255-260. Dude I was going to the gym with last year graduated.

I've been eating around 2500 calories but running a decent amount too. We'll see how it goes.

i hate lifting with others - not a fan of being spotted either, but i like listening to music just as much as lifting. i'm sure if you wanted to cut down on running your bench would go up

We all have rough spots and they are often the defining times of our lives. It's we determine if we can sink or swim, so doggie-paddle it out for these next couple of months and you will find summer to be very good for you.

Yeah. I know what you're saying though. Some strange always helps relieve stress, but not right after you break up ya know? It only causes complications especially if he ends up getting back with her. You just say there's tons of fish in the sea to lighten em up, get em excited. Realistically most girls our age are taken.

BTW, good job everyone on the counseling. Sometimes just having a friend or someone be there for you can mean the world.

👍 Nice to know this thread just isn't about food, sports, and how we should be studying.

Speaking of food...my roommate brought home vanilla bean cheesecake for me when she ate out with her friend yesterday. The top half was whipped cream and it was way too rich and sweet for me. I ate two bites and stuck it back in the fridge.

Sweet, my Biochem test was moved back by 5 days. Awesome. That means another week of nothingness and freedom!
