Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone!! :hello:

I've missed like 9 pages of this thread, anyone willing to catch me up??

P.S. I am again really sorry if I offended anyone last night. I will definitely be more conscientious about my posts.

Quick! Someone respond or I'm just going to start blabbing.

Wait, aren't hospital doctors already on salary?

Depends on the medical system. A lot of hospitals now outsource as well for example the william beaumont hospital allows private practice doctors to attach the beaumont name to them and they outsource patients there for specific procedures.

I'm no good at this game. I nominate metallica.

I wonder how long the longest thread is in the history of the online forum??

That's always a plus. Do people complain when you blast music??

I don't really blast music often, but they might if I chose to.

The only downside of my system (unless I rewired it) would be that I can't have TV audio and iPod audio at the same time. I might try and rewire it tomorrow, though, since I just got an extra RCA cable.

I can't tell you how much bass I pick up from random TV jingles and music, though.

Slappin' the bass. (I love you man reference).

hoody and oakland.
So I just re read everything that went down last night (btw, nice edits Oakland), and I want to know exactly what it is that I posted that is so "sketchy". 😕

It feels over exaggerated.

As far as summarizing the thread goes, there's really not much.
-some March Madness talk
-Boston get-together speak
-very very brief healthcare bill discussion (which I am thankful of)
-Taty ran her half marathon
-recently, my discussion on this lying douche from another forum

I totally forgot to respond to this post last time because I was too busy making fun of blobby bob....FAIL.
I work hard for my post count +pad+

The post pad thing got a little ridiculous last night. No more tonight, ok?

nothing beats my college hockey forum. its basically moderated (especially compared to this place). 😀

Thats reasonable. You'll have to teach me a new way to keep my post count up though.

Salaried at my place as well. Nurses and doctors. However, the nurses get paid for OT while the doctors do not. Also the doctors do not get paid for call, rather they get a paid day off (the following day, obviously). The Docs do get an annual 10K bonus if they meet certain proficiencies which they do. I'm guessing this is how most federal hospitals work.

Sounds good. I used to work at a large walmart style store that sold douches, apparently they have scents or like flavors and they ranged from like strawberry banana all the way to vinegar and odorless. I always thought that was pretty interesting. It's also super weird to ring up your manager and notice her buying large amounts of douches...

You have to actually respond to a post.

Unwritten rule is no more than 3 in a row, unless you keep missing people's posts to quote and respond to. Because then the padding gets excessive and kind of seems like cheating.

go to the what are my chances thread and post the same answer for each thread. They all ask the same thing anyways. You can post pad while still having the facade that you are useful!

I love how 'douche' has now become a regular term in common speech now.

My personal preference as a patient is salaried hospitals. The ones that outsource or pay by "procedure" always seemed hectic and unorganized in my opinion. The hospital I volunteer at is salaried 🙂

Good advice.

Or you could go to the school x vs school y threads and post the same thing - just pick your stance money or happiness.

seriously. that subforum is useful if you have questions about what schools to apply to but for the most part it's pretty much, "get more clinical experience, get more leadership, apply broadly, good luck!"

This seems tedious.

This is brilliant.

👍 Good job! I approve.

Just have a normal conversation here? I also occasionally try to be useful in the rest of pre-allo.

This sounds nice!

this would sound very strange if i did not know what you were referring to.

actually, scratch that, it still sounds strange
hahahah. true.

Floatie tried to make me incorporate douche into every post after making it clear what I thought of the douchehole from yesterday. It lasted like 3 posts. lol. Though it has apparently been my word of the day.

I love that money is never an issue with Patients at my place. Its never how are you going to pay for this, what kind of insurance do you have (or not have), worrying about using too many supplies that are individually charged for, etc.

I used to live with a CFO of a for profit hospital. It was all about time. How many and how fast. All about the fede.

I could probably just add to the political flamewars and that will help my post count too.

I don't wanna start them in here though, but I just have to get this out of the way:

Am I the only person that thought it was hilarious when the republican whip said, did you guys read the bill?

All the dems answered yes

and he said, HELL NOOOO!!

^I chuckled in the library and I had the entire thing blasting on my laptop, people actually came over to watch it. Love streaming CNN live.

K, got that out of my system, moving on what is this real conversation you guys speak of?

In all honesty and seriousness, I don't understand why women douche. It's freaky and totally unnecessary. I'm just going to leave it at that so everyone doesn't get grossed out.

Yes. Oakland, note how I am multiquoting sometimes to make it seem like I'm not a posting-*****.

Another great tip!

You could probably boost your post count by amazing numbers by saying the right things in that thread.

I'm sure people will be up all night discussing/arguing it.

I don't think I would mind the salary thing with the bonus if you do well. Unless the salary was really low.
My salary is most definitely competitive. I would assume that the docs salaries are competitive too....but I've heard mixed opinions. We also all get an annual step increase (without question) and a cost of living adjustment (usually between 2-5%/year). So everyone (janitor to chief of staff) gets an annual raise...even if its only like 3-5K (for me anyway), it seems pretty darn good. Plus you cant beat the 5 weeks vacay and 5 weeks sick leave per year (which you can save up to 6 months worth before you lose it, and can cash it out when you leave/retire).

That system probably makes it a lot easier to practice as well as a physician, when you are not worrying about how much you will be reimbursed. Like I know a PA who tells me he can't even give Tordol shots to patients because medicare doesn't cover them or something etc. Like you treat patients completely different just due to insurance coverages. It's not 100% about what the patients needs, it's what the patient needs minus how much will I get paid for specific treatments = what I actually do for the patient.

another thing that bothers me about the "what are my chances" subforum is that it really encourages people to become "checklist" premeds.

Yeah I don't get it either.

Yeah, it does seem like anything that people talk about outside of that box people shoot down really quickly.

i agree, im not much of a checklist fan but i think people follow as its the safest way to gain admissions if you apply widely.
