Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Annnnnnd bedtime.

Animal behavior exam tomorrow.

Should be interesting since I haven't been to class since the last test.

The sweet sixteen threads will also be back up and running at some point tomorrow, so if you have any last minute votes, go do them.

Good advice.

Or you could go to the school x vs school y threads and post the same thing - just pick your stance money or happiness.

seriously. that subforum is useful if you have questions about what schools to apply to but for the most part it's pretty much, "get more clinical experience, get more leadership, apply broadly, good luck!"

Yup,.

My salary is most definitely competitive. I would assume that the docs salaries are competitive too....but I've heard mixed opinions. We also all get an annual step increase (without question) and a cost of living adjustment (usually between 2-5%/year). So everyone (janitor to chief of staff) gets an annual raise...even if its only like 3-5K (for me anyway), it seems pretty darn good. Plus you cant beat the 5 weeks vacay and 5 weeks sick leave per year (which you can save up to 6 months worth before you lose it, and can cash it out when you leave/retire).

That sounds pretty legit. You said you make 80k a year too... that's pretty substantial in my opinion. Still though, I want at least a 3 million dollar house and some jetskis and I don't know if that would cut it 😉🙄 (sarcasm)

In all honesty and seriousness, I don't understand why women douche. It's freaky and totally unnecessary. I'm just going to leave it at that so everyone doesn't get grossed out.

I understand why, it's kind've nasty so I don't really wanna say it, but I definitely understand why.

You could probably boost your post count by amazing numbers by saying the right things in that thread.

I'm sure people will be up all night discussing/arguing it.

I'm not in the mood though. I'm really apathetic tonight, can't wait to go volunteer at the hospital though to see what the nurses/docs have to say.

Gooooood night Sammich! 🙂 More music sharing later this week, yes?

Too bad I don't volunteer at the ER anymore, I always do Sunday afternoons. The place would have been quite interesting today. I've already had many ER residents tell me to go into intervential radiology, now they'd probably tell me just to give up.

Absolutely!

I've made a few friends mix cd's lately - want one? Then I can start snail mailing you, too!!! I've become a big fan of writing letters and sending packages to people lately... lol.

...and this isn't sketchy at all.

I think I might know what you're talking about, but no, there are ways around that. I looked like this 😱 when I shadowed an ob/gyn and a woman said she uses a douche.

I can think of 2 great reasons that women douche.

End of douch talk here.

Yes! The only mail I get is what I order myself or coupons to stores that are nowhere near me.

There are so many CDs I want to download, but with the combination of me not having iTunes and the torrent sites being so corrupted lately, I don't know if I'll ever go back to doing that.

Met were you ever interested in EM??

Oh yeah, definitely.

But I hung around the ER long enough to figure out that most people use it as primary care and that there is more red tape there than in other places.

I could see it being a backup specialty for me if I can't get interested enough in something else.

X infinity. :smack:

Most EM docs I know hate it. Seems like EM/FM are the most unhappy. FM hate how they are crapped on by everyone and EM hates how people abuse the emergency room (my tooth hurts, I have a hang nail, etc). We don't service pregnant women (or children) here so I don't have any relations with OB/GYNs.

Yeah I like it a lot too and definitely could see myself doing it. I've noticed a huge difference though between different types of ED's. Where I volunteer the ED could be filled to the brim, but the doctors are always chill and slow moving. Everyone is always on youtube or urban dictionary at the nurses station. It's not a bad thing because everyone is usually in a good mood.

Another hospital has like 6 modules, 120 beds in their ED and it's always a constant rush, each nurse has to deal with like 15 patients and you are constantly moving and everyone is always complaining and pissed off. The good thing is time flies in these types of ED's. You get to see a ton of cool stuff too. Residents also get hammered at this ED.

My parents' PCP is going to/has already started to charge extra each year to be a top priority patient.

There are a bunch around here that don't take medicare/caid at all.

Doesn't look like I can run dual audio from the cable box to both my TV and my iTower. 🙁

Use a splitter? Or can you go cable ---> TV ----> itower?

another thing that bothers me about the "what are my chances" subforum is that it really encourages people to become "checklist" premeds.

It's more helpful later on in the cycle when people are building lists of schools to apply to, IMO.

Yeah, I actually said this exact same thing a few posts ago. And I used SDN to help me form my school list, so it'd be pretty hypocritical if I said that was useless 😛

Don't even get me started on that thread.

Pre-meds who haven't been admitted anywhere, let alone been on an adcom, dispensing admissions advice as if it's gospel.

Yeah, I will try and do that tomorrow when I won't make as much noise fooling around with stuff behind my TV.

😱 How do you not have itunes??

I had it before my computer crashed this past summer. I haven't put it back on yet until I find the time to put all my songs from my iPod back on the computer.

I don't have it installed right now, because if I plugged my iPod in, it would sync and delete all of my 20+ GBs of music, a lot of which I'll never get back.

Gotta get that post count up.

I pretty much only want to work as a hospitalist. Im not much intrested in having a clinic, or having true continuity of care.

Is it an older ipod? There are programs that will let you take songs off of them.

I just want a fresh crib, trophy wife, and a fast whip. Oh yeah, I want to help people as well.

Good night for real this time Sammich! (because last one was a pre-good night)

It's the first generation video. I've seen youtube videos showing how to get them off, it just seems like it takes forever.

But now I have so many new CDs that I want to listen to in iPod portability. It really made plane flights stupid, because I didn't have any new music.

Holy crap, it's getting late here. I really don't want to screw up my sleep schedule this badly so early in the week.

Stupid lab not needing me to come in on Monday mornings. If I could do that, I'd always get a good sleep schedule going from day one.

I want to participate in a clinical study but all of the requests for volunteers at my school are for people with allergies, asthma, smokers, women with serious PMS, etc. I never seem to qualify for anything.

Start smoking then. I suggest Parliament Lights.

Can you just show up for fun? Like, "Heyyyy give me something to do so I can have a good week, kthxbai."

I participated in a gum-chewing study at the local biomedical research center for money.

It was looking promising, until the first day I went in and tried to eat the lunch they gave me for the study. I couldn't finish it and almost barfed - they said I was the first person who had to quit a study because I couldn't finish the lunch. And I was hungry, too! Epic fail.

🤣 It must have been really nasty. I thought guys eat almost anything when they're hungry.

Tomorrow will suck. Hardcore Microbial Physiology studying day. I should have taken Cell Bio instead, it's almost exactly like Biochem - Microb Phys is only ~20% like Biochem. :bang:

Good night!

Hopefully this new week brings good luck to me and Taty for hearing from our dream schools and everybody else waiting to hear from somebody special or anybody at all.
