Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Welcome to MOE'S!!! 😀

Told my boss I was leaving. Now all that's left is to tell my project manager, but he's too stressed this week, so I've been advised to tell him Monday. (I swear I have too many bosses 🙄) That's a huge relief considering I've known since November and have been trying to avoid telling them for fear of getting fired for 5 months now (turned out to be an irrational fear, but it happened to a friend at a competing firm so I didn't want to take a chance).

Commissioning in the Air Force this Friday evening -- so stoked! Meeting my recruiter down at Seymour Johnson Friday morning and commissioning that evening. Best part is I'm getting sworn in by my dentist, whos a long-time family friend and former HPSPer. Gonna be a grand ol time 🙂

So with all the good stuff going on, I'm going to ignore the fact that I'm going to get my arse chewed out in a meeting at 2:30 for not being more client-focused (aka I got overwhelmed with requests last week, and as a result had 2 "non-critical" requests slip through the cracks, and didn't proofread a model that ended up having 3 typoes in it 🙄). The funny part is, I'm going to be getting chewed out by my project manager, so if I was really feeling :meanie: :meanie: I could just say "I'm leaving in 7 weeks" and see what happens.

But I'm in such a good mood, I'll first try to be teflon and let it slide.

How are y'all doing this fine afternoon?

Cool. But I hope I don't get one for graduation. I'm telling people not to get me anything medicine related.

haha Christmas senior year I got a really nice stethoscope and 2 Trauma Center games for the Wii...I then had to tell my relatives that I was taking time off before med school...

do you guys rememberhow much fun fake money used to be? natalie is so entertained by these pretend dollars she got for being good at the dentist haha. she also loves carrying around real change and offers to give you some to help pay for things🙂
Especially monopoly money. Me and my brother were ruthless monopoly players, my parents had us trained to be cutthroat businessmen by like 7. But oddly my sister is a pushover.

Hiiiiiii!!!!!!!!

I missed you guys...haven't been on here for a little while. What did I miss?
:hello:

so do ppl actually get into schools off the waitlist? i was looking at the waitlist thread last year for kicks and not many ppl seemed to put themselves down. then again, no one really put themselves down for acceptance threads this year so idk
I got off Cincinnati's waitlist (didn't accept though).

Moe's is a burrito place. I think.
Never heard of it, guess we don't have them up here.
Littman Classic II
That's what I've got, I like it.

I just utilized my stethoscope about an hour ago. The trick is to put it in the right place and then pretend you know what's going on👍.

That made me smile- An ER doc I shadowed admitted to me that it's mostly for show anyway...it's useful for detecting murmurs, but realistically, you need an ECG to diagnose most heart conditions. I guess it also has some utility in diagnosing chest congestion as well, but it's a little tough for the untrained ear 😉

haha y'all laugh, but I'm gonna blow folks away when I make a star in the air and bust out my healing touch.

blam!

/nerdiness. seriously, though -- that's the worst part of the game. the rest of it is pretty baller.

I sit here. Wait for the news of an envelope with my name and a terrible thought crosses my mind....
what if I was seriously rejected 2 weeks ago.
that would suck so bad@

Hello!

I use mine a lot actually. Been working in the ER for a few years now and its definately the best way to get a pulse rate (never trust a pulseox) and it is the BEST way to get a respiratory rate (RR) because when you simply stare at a patients breathing chest they get weirded out, if you tell them what you are doing they breathe funny. So listen to the hear for 15-30 second and multiply for a pulse rate and then listen to the breathing for 15-30 seconds to get a rr without weirding out your patient.

My 2 cents.

i wish they had moe's in california. it's delicious
those burritoes are the size of my head!!!
and full of deliciousness....I always get Art Vandalay (the veg one)

We also have Willy's down here which is pretty similar but with better green salsa lol

Whoa, the Nobel prize winner was rejected by Harvard and he only went to Columbia Med. 🙄

That's just such a fall down. I could never live with myself only going to Columbia instead of Harvard. I'd flog myself everyday until I bled.

There are some good examples in that article, but that one just makes me want to barf.

Hey man when I come down in May lets get a burrito and a beer! 👍

taty - did you ever call to check on your status at duke? maybe you could do it today and get an answer, either direct or indirect :xf:

awww. you'll be fine. i'm sure the reason you dont have a rejection letter yet is because....you didn't get rejected!

the article is interesting, but what about the people that do go to harvard. do they end up great like those people? 😕

I didn't.
I was thinking if I don't hear anything today, I'd call tomorrow.

I would like die. No joke, if I am accepted.
as for the article...man that NP guy is stubborn...went through the pain of applications TWICE to get rejected from one specific school TWICE!

Mos def.

I'll make sure I can set up a DD by then, so we can have maximum fun.

If you're coming down in mid-May, that should be the week in between finals and graduation, which is my week to do nothing and drink. 👍

now that this cycle is wrapping up, it's so crazy seeing the next wave of applicants asking all the same questions/getting nervous. i got my mcat score a little over a year ago. that was faaaaast.

yah but its nice to know we are done for awhile. This is something i cant imagine repeating...though we all will in 4 more years

Perfection. I will be there in the middle so I will be joining you for some senseless drinking! 😀

Tat...what about Emory? When do you hear from them?

that process is much quicker. you can get interviews before finishing your personal statement. and i think you start your app in nov. or oct., and it's over mid-march.

At least we get scheduled time for interviews and stuff.
true, i suppose it wont be near as bad as this was. At least with med school near every single one of us will match at least somewhere. It may not be at a top choice but better then med school where you apply to like 30 for hopes at 1 lol. And taty:luck:. We all know your in duke its a done deal 😉

Well that's good.

This process is from May to May - over a year. That's not even counting the prepping you have to do with LORs, PS, and just getting all your stuff together.

For some people who get in off waitlists, it's even longer than a year.

Since I assume you'll catch up on this...

I'm free tomorrow afternoon around 2:30-3 and pretty much all of next week when I'm not in class, esp Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

You have class during lunch time on Monday next week???

People that go to Harvard fail at life.

Did you test in January??? Me too!!!

Troof!

Plus, we just match! Sure we have to rank them, but the decision is made for us in the end. No financial aid to worry about waiting for etc. It'll be so much better. And we'll know when we hear back. Though the scramble would suck majorly.

I'm surprised that article didn't mention Andy Fire.

He was rejected by Stanford for undergrad and went on to win the Nobel Prize in medicine in 2006.

He's now on the faculty at Stanford. 🙂

does this mean good or bad news? Is good news more likely?
It means terrible news. Not only was I WL or rejected, but I also tortured myself for the past 2 weeks for nothing.
At least now I can calm down.
