Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
a lot of md phds might not fund your tuition md years, might not give you a stpident during your md years

mstp = guaranteed tuition + stipend (adjust to cost of living)

a good portion of md/phd students write F30 and F31 to get funding and stipend support for themselves though

for example

Miami MD/PhD is tuition free all years but there's no guarantee of stipend support unless you get a dean's scholly.

whoa, so you get a stipend all 8 years? that's pretty sweet. my interviewer at miami spent like half the interview trying to convince me to do md/phd, i just didn't see THAT much advantage in it. seems like mstp would def be a better deal, though i'm sure i wouldn't get in to any of them. they're about the same length time-wise right?

i would think md/phds go just a bit faster since they dont really have the money to keep you (depends on the institution)

average is 7.7 years

"Should you report to this space on March 2 and not find any new posts, do not worry: I'll just be playing a baseball video game while trying to win a million dollars. As first reported by CNBC's Darren Rovell, the makers of MLB 2K10 are offering a cool $1,000,000 prize to the at-home player who pitches the first perfect game on the latest edition of their franchise.
Seeing as how my video pitching skills peaked during the Baseball Stars era, I actually don't have the skills to be in the running with all the young folks.
But if you choose to take a shot at the big prize, you must play the game under certain settings and take video of yourself while Steve Phillips possibly narrates the perfecto.
Reports Rovell:
" 'We believe our pitching mechanic in our game is superior to what is out there,' said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. 'So we were brainstorming as to what we could do to give this industry a shot in the arm.'
"They arrived at the $1 million prize.
"When a player starts a game, he or she will be able to go to default settings (including All-Star mode) that will automatically qualify him or her should he pitch the perfect game. If a player accomplishes the feat, a code will pop up and if 2K Sports verifies that the player is the first one to do so, he or she will win the $1 million in a lump sum payment."
As MLB 2K10 coverboy Evan Longoria(notes) tweets, "That's a lot of coin!" and he would know. The Rays' third baseman is scheduled to make "only" $950,000 for the 2010 season.
Also worth noting: White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle(notes) threw a real perfect game last July and all he got was a phone call from the President and this lousy customized motorcycle."

This guy is like superman!

And no, it's not Rick Astley.

TWO MILLION BABIES owe their lives to James Harrison. How cool is THAT

lol, i was thinking of taking out sub. loans and microlending them out. kinda the same idea

have not seen it before. are you considering it over your other loans as an alternative. probably yoda will be better at this, but im gonna look into it out of curiosity as well

I think the rates are better for gradplus stuff. Might be an interesting investment possibility for short term stuff.

Yeah dude, no reason not to if you do MSTP. Take out sub loans, invest, then pay it back before it gets hit with interest and pocket the interest on the investment.

yea def, i'll see if i quality for sub loans

how does this website work, is it basically a savings account/mutual fund or is it more work?

Damn that's pretty awesome. I didn't even know there are antibodies that can cure the Rh factor conflicts between mother and baby.

why wouldn't you be? i thought they were guaranteed?

cinco de mayo party at msft. woot free sangria at work.

👍 that's awesome

"When he started donating, his blood was deemed so special his life was insured for one million Australian dollars" sounds like a line from those dos equis commercials

I hear BU c/o 2012 is pushing hard to get the Most Interesting Man in the World to be their commencement speaker

You have to pick individual borrowers, and you will get your principal+interest returned over the next three years...if the borrower doesn't default. If they decide not to pay, you're pretty much SOL.

i thought they were need based? i think i should be able to though

umm, you're right, it depends on financial need. i'm thinking of not borrowing from american lenders but borrow from my family in China instead. the savings rate is terrible these days there, and I can give them a much better rate of return while still keeping it lower than even subsidized loans. maybe you could think international?

I knew there were... I didn't know they came from a person! I thought they were artificially created. Hmm; in retrospect, that was silly of me since I work in pharmaceuticals and I know we don't come up with anything brand new - we just discover and re-purpose what already exists

Tipsy post. 🙂

Dude 👍

But I see a few problems with the scenario:

1. Why wasn't I invited?
2. If you are at a bar / friend's place drinking why are you on ur phone/laptop posting on SDN!?
3. If you are drinking at home - you totally need a drinking buddy!

Closing statements:
Still 👍

I drank at home with my parents. Haven't eaten all day and I was stressed. So not cool.

🙁 why the stress? And it's kinda cool you drink w/ your parents actually

And it's probably a good idea to eat BEFORE you drink. But meh; screw it - you can only get away w/ this stuff when ur young so 👍

it's never too late for margaritas!

I think he meant it was too late to go out and get the stuff for margaritas

and yea if he said it was too late to drink a margarita... HE'S A BLASPHEMER - BURN at the stake!!

Turning down med school acceptances is more nerve wracking than I thought it'd be...
