Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Holy **** laptops are complicated. I just had to replace my LCD screen and I had to take apart the entire laptop. I feel like such a handy man because I saved myself $100 by installing it myself. But that was the most draining thing ever. Here's the instructions in case you don't understand how hard it is:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/1535/en/SM/display.htm#wp1179838

Basically, take off the bottom of the lap top, undo all the wires, take off the keyboard and volume controls, take off the rest of the wires, unscrew the hinges, separate the display from the base, all this takes like tons of unscrewing, probably 25 unscrews in all, unroute all the wires, pop open the bezel very carefully, unscrew the screen from display, unplug all the wires from the screen to laptop, open new screen, screw in brackets, plug in wires, screw it in the base, pop in bezel, tons of screwing and reattaching and rerouting wires. I'm not exactly a tech person so I had no idea if I was plugging in the correct wires etc. I was so happy when I turned it on and seen that screen light up and seen the keyboard work.

Yea, well, I built a robot myself :meanie:

I think after living in China for 11 years and visiting Disney for about 15 times, I've had enough waiting in line for my life....

Yup, pretty good movie, though I can't even remember much of it anymore.

You mean you actually finished it?

I really like midnight movies.

I've done it for a few Harry potters. And one of the x men. And simpsons. Probably more.

I'm also wondering if I could get some counseling from you guys...

Basically, the way I motivate myself to do well in my classes is by competing with my friends. In one of my recent classes one of my friends and I went back and forth beating each other on tests and we'd kind've sarcastically rub it in each others faces. At one point my friend wrote one of my grades on some of my property because he beat me on that test. I ended up beating him in the class overall grade. So, as kind've a joke, since we both are in the same summer class, I go up to the front of the class before clsas and write my grade > his grade with the actual numerical grade on the chalkboard and no one was really in class and no one would've known what I was talking about. But the kid got extremely pissed, and like I called him to go study together and he called me an a-hole and hung up in my face. I mean I can understand if he's jealous because I never went to that class and ended up doing better than him who studied really hard for it etc. But was his reaction ridiculous, or was me writing that on the board a complete d**k move?

no! i'll probably watch it this weekend now that it's on my mind again though

what up

a nightmare on elm street (heard it kind of sucked), how to train your dragon (supposed to be sweet), the losers (looked ok)

i think robin hood comes out next week
Great movie. Definitely has a Sam Mendes look to it (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) with Thomas Newman (Shawshank, others...) music. It's one helluva movie.

Can't go wrong with Tom Hanks + Paul Newman + Jude Law + Daniel Craig

I don't think I would have changed anything. Hard to say.

Also, my sister is here and that makes me so so so so happy.

You should take her out to eat! Younger siblings love mooching food off of others. Especially because they never have to pay for it.

But hey, thinking back to those times kinda makes things all better doesn't it? Just remembering once again that we'd ultimately be happy wherever we go 🙂

This is true. It's always when you take a big step, you only look at the steps ahead and sigh. It's so easy to forget what it felt like just 2 steps ago - how you told yourself that next step is a doozy and climbing it is going to be super duper awesome..

hahaha let's not start comparing epeens here (because obviously i'll win :meanie: )

Why aren't you online, loser?

I haven't actually watched a movie in awhile... I wanted to see up in the air but that never ended up happening haha

I can vouch this goes the other way too. My bro loved it when I used to fly to cali and then take him out to lunch/dinner.

Maybe you should read my other posts and see that I'm at my grandparents and only have phone Internet.

Loser.

thank you very much, now ur on my best friend list along with blue. whod thought u two would agree on something?

He was probably having a bad day, but yes, that was rude.

I know what I did was wrong, but at the same time, my car was really dusty one day and he wrote my grade all over my car ya know? Like, I thought it was all fun and games. And the thing is, I think he's actually really pissed, because I didn't call him the same day, I called him 2 days later and we were like supposed to play basketball with some of our profs, so I call him saying, you wanna study together and he goes no, and I go alright what time are we playing basketball and he just goes we don't play basketball with a-holes and I was like are you seriously mad right now? And he just hung up.

I'm kind've worried because this kid has been my friend for like 3 years and we're pretty close study buddies.

I haven't actually watched a movie in awhile... I wanted to see up in the air but that never ended up happening haha

I enjoyed that movie. A lot of people can't get into it though because it's kind of slow.

I liked Up in the Air, but meh, didn't blow me out of the water. I'm aware they're different movies, but in terms of recent George Clooney movies, Michael Clayton surprised the hell out of me and was a really awesome movie.

The weird thing is that I used to see movies all the time... it just isn't something that a lot of people seem to do, maybe b/c it's not convenient to get over to the theatre... the one next to my house is amazing though, they let you bring in any booze or drinks or food you want!

That's pretty bossy.

Yea, but it didn't really work that well

Not fair, you've been actually working as an engineer 😡

you know the really stupid thing is that's pretty much why I went to my ug... 😛

Ha, but robot building IS fun! That's like the only part of EE I enjoyed. Well, not the mechanical building part, but the digital circuits part. Loved it.

I was a kid in middle school and watched the MIT course 6 people build robots and have them fight each other with like pre-programmed algorithms and I was like that's what I want to do in college... little did I know... lol

Yeah, it was kind of. But at the same time, if he wrote your grade on your property like that--harder to get off than just erasing a chalkboard--then he really has nothing to complain about. If he didn't want it escalating, he shouldn't have been playing the game in the first place.
Maybe you should read my other posts and see that I'm at my grandparents and only have phone Internet.

O.

Not a good excuse in my book.

Ugh. This night just gets worse...

:meanie:

who said anything about playing fair?

Actually random side note - speaking of building digital circuits / mechanical things - helped one of the students for a class I TA to finish building her waterwheel energy generator. Prof. brought in soldering iron and everyone was so impressed with how it works. I was like... wait really that's impressive?!

Yea, I shoulda joined in with my school's autonomous robot building projects, they had some really cool submarine robots 🙁

btw - dingy how'd u get ur icon anyway? design it yourself?

Whatever man, if he wants to let it phase him and ruin a friendship than whatev. That is why I like being friends with girls more anyways, so much less drama 🙄

Like I got a 4.0 and he got a 3.9, it's not really that huge of a deal to be b**ching like that.

On a side note, what is crazy about my laptop is that I had sent it in to be fixed back when I had the warranty still covering it, but now I had to do it myself and like everything inside was so unorganized, the wire routes were wrong and stuff, so it took me like an extra 20 minutes just to fix the jumbled mess that was my laptop due to how lazy the people that actually work at the company are. I definitely notice a difference in my laptop already though. My touch volume control used to not-work and I got it working again 😀 I feel like changing this laptop screen should go in my P.S. or something, it's definitely having a dramatic impact on my life.

Damn, that is pretty sweet I must say!

I think soldering wires is pretty cool. Then again, I thought it was cool unscrewing my laptop and rerouting wires.

Yea. Puffs of smoke came off and the things held together, and it was all shiny - they let out surprised "whoaaas!" It was kinda cool - you forget how the simple things you are used to / seems every day to you - is really not that everyday - even to other college kids...

To clarify - these are like hard core liberal arts kiddies - not very sciencey 🙂
