I remember 10/15 like it was yesterday, feeling down with no interviews as I'm sure others were too! Now look at where we all ended up. It's really amazing. Congrats to all of us 🙂

My dad is a doctor, my brother is a resident, I have two cousins that are attendings or fellows, one that's a resident, and about 6 that are in med or dental school. Yeah we like the health professions...

I have the highest MCAT and soon step though 😉 😛

It helps significantly for some fields (ID, preventive cardiology, and others especially) and can help for academic positions. If you want to teach at a med school in those fields, a MPH will make you a stronger candidate. As far as in private practice? Maybe in ID. It may allow you to be better suited to do global health things if that's something you're interested in.

That's cool that ur family sees what their parents are doing and wants to carry on their profession. Not really the case in my family. I think we skip generations all over the place.
 
I get random PMs from SDNers I don't know saying they're hoping I get into Pritzker and that they're really pulling for me. Sounds dumb, but it really makes me feel like I can hang in there and keep hoping.

out of my entire family, extended and all, only my parents, my two brothers, and myself have completed college. i never really thought of that before. 5 people out of my entire family. crazy.

man, it looks like i might have to change my summer plans. a ticket to china right now is friggin expensive! last year including all taxes and fees my ticket was only around $750, this year without taxes and fees is around $2100!! 😡 I'm wondering what I should do now....

You're partially glad that the Lakers don't have to play the Spurs.

Don't get me wrong, the Suns CLEARLY showed that they were the better team this series, but I don't see the Suns matching up well with the Lakers' size at all...

and wats up with super high ticket prices! i was looking for a good website to get international tix too so lemme know if you find anything and ill do the same! i didnt know you were going to china thats super awesome, one of the things that has to remain on my to-do list for another year but shall get crossed off soon 😉

OK...so all this talk about "gunners". From what I have gathered in the forum, a gunner is someone who goes out of their way to set up their classmates for failure. Correct? So, what do you call someone who is driven for a 4.0GPA, does NOT go out of their way to sabotage anyone, but simply doesn't go out of their way to tell other students about opportunities (ie things that go in your CV)....or doesn't go out of their way to help people/share notes (yet will still share notes IF ASKED)

EDIT: of course, this person does these things so that they still come out on top in some way.

Yea, I'm gonna try a travel agent or something, but I doubt they'll be able to shave off much from that price. I'm thinking about just traveling a bit inside the country now, which shouldn't be too bad either 🙂 BTW, when do you plan to cross it off?

Crap, I think my computer is fricked up again. This is the first time in like an hour I've been able to actually start up the internet without the whole thing freezing up. Not good. :scared:

I can't even start my computer in safe mode.

Perhaps, but even the nerdiest people will help a classmate out- take notes for them, share their homework, yaddayadda. I am talking about the classmate that doesn't want to help because they want to come out on top of everyone else. I just remember during my interviews how all the pharmacy students talked about how everyone helped each other out and how they post notes for each other and help each other to study/understand the material. I just wonder if there are students out there who go into professional school thinking to themselves "I am going to do this, this, and this and not tell anybody about it so they don't have the same opportunity so I am better in some way.." Make sense?

I'm pretty worried about this computer thing. Hopefully it fixes itself. McAfee didn't say I had a virus, and so far neither has Malwarebytes. This would just be a very bad time for this to happen because I have finals and I need a computer to look over my notes. At least I have most important things (including notes) on a flash drive.

I wonder if i should get a new one. I mean my 4 yr old mac still works wonderful as the 1st day i got it....but i would love to get a pc or something i can run games on 🙁

no virus scanner can get 100% of viruses, especially not crap like mcafee or norton. i always partition my hd so my important files are in a separate drive as my system files like windows. that way if i have to reinstall everything, i don't have to erase my important files too.

I'm not sure if this thing can make it a couple more months. I might just have to ask my parents if they can get me a new one. They offered one a while ago as a graduation present, but I said I'd rather wait and see what happened with schools and if I wanted a vacation instead.

hah yea i agree; gunners are douchebags. Don't think drizz is a douche at all 🙂 I say s/he's a gunner in a chidingly joking way. Few people on 2014ers are actual gunners. Most are (as dingy pointed out) nerds. Actually we are geeks. Nerds are nerdy - geeks are actually smart and get stuff done and are awesome.

prevention >>> better than cure fo sho.

And eh you can get rid of a virus if you know what you are doing. 1 Virus scanner is usually not enough to do it though - as dingy said. In general, I even recommend using an external jump drive loaded with a virus scanner to do an external scan/clean (but that basically requires you to be an IT professional or an IT enthusiast 🙁 )

Well my computer is running a little bit better, it just sucks because I don't really know all that much about technology. :laugh:

I can only use the same techniques that have worked for me in the past. This time around doesn't seem nearly as bad as over the past summer when I had to totally wipe everything clean.

Yeah, it's kinda crazy. Post-interview you are either accepted, rejected, or "continued" until May and then they decide if you are accepted, waitlisted, or rejected, again. About half of continued candidates get cut and don't make the waitlist, so there's a very realistic shot that my cycle may come to an end this week. 🙁

I just hope to make the waitlist, lol

I don't know a ton about Peavy because in Chitown everyone's still very skeptical about the reasons he's giving for what's going on. I do know that even if he doesn't pan out, he may help me out in the K department which I got my ass kicked in this week. Then again, Pedie's friend has a team made entirely of pitchers :laugh:
