For FAFSA all grad students are automatically independents, the 24 rule is for undergrad. For individual school's aid it varies.

👍 this. For the edification of the 2015ers and beyond lurking (or not so lurking) on this thread:

I feel very fortunate to be going to med school on the military's dime -- my parents flat out refused to give me info for the FAFSA (filled it out b4 I found out about HPSP) saying they had no funds to provide and that they wanted no part in financing my graduate education. Considering they're shouldering my undergrad by themselves, I thought it completely appropriate.

However, by not providing that info, I was automatically disqualified from all institution-based financial aid. My future home is not a private institution -- and other public schools had asked for parental financial aid as well. My annual finaid package looked something like this:

CoA: 65k
Subsidized Loans: 8500
Unsubsidized Loans: everything else plus your soul and first born.

At other schools, it looked something like this:

CoA: 65k unless you do the rural practice program and sell your soul to the boonies.
CoA (rural): 23k
Subsidized Loans: 8500
Unsubsidized Loans: everything else and, if you do the rural program, either/or on the first born/soul

I've been doing 9 hours of back to back tutoring each day for the last 3 days... and now I'm done!!! 🙂 It's finals week so I had to work as hard as my students... but whoo I'm done! And classes are over, so my TA duties are done too! Now I've only got my part time job @ my office till end of June, and then I'll be completely done with my old life

I don't think I worked this hard even when I was in school; so whew it's nice to be done 👍 Although, I'm the type of person that gets bored after 5 seconds of doing nothing... which means I'll be bored tomorrow morning 🙁

Definitely feel a bit loopy after so many hours of tutoring... but hopefully my students will kick ass like they have the whole year so it'll all be worth it!

PS--just saw Ironman II -- BALLER!!!

really? I keep hearing mixed reviewed (people either loved it or thought it was an insult to the first movie); so I don't know if I should go watch it.

Oh who am I kidding; it's a movie about a rich man who builds an awesome suit of armor and gets all the chicks (who are all hot). And there's explosions.

Of course I'm going to watch it

caniac, i was in dc yesterday, but you weren't there 🙁

what!? I totally was here! Well, I was in Arlington, VA. But close enough!!!

we should've hung out 🙂

but for now, I'm off to bed -- back to Harris Teeter to pick up moving boxes at 6am...what I'll do for free boxes 🙄

3 sweeps?

Great now the cavs C's are gonna go 7

Oh, definitely. These playoffs have been the suck.

I'll really hate my summer / life if we bow out

There's a good chance it could happen. Celtics are a lot better than I would have thought. If Pierce gets going, they might win.

I think I love biochem tho

Atleast in ugrad. It was by far my fave class

or atleast the one and only class i kept up

funny what happens when something captures your interest

It's okay. Not my least fave, not my most fave.

I wonder how med school will be for me, because the classes that most captured my interest were not related to the stuff we will be studying in M1. Parasitology was the only thing medical school (kind of) related that I loved. I don't think I will like M1 classes, but in theory I love the M2 classes.

you guys should be pulmonologists. or intinsivists. 👍

we must be polar opposites met... anything micro related makes me want to stab myself in the eyeball(s)

I picture myself doing all kinds of specialities and being in love w/ them but if I really think about it I feel like I will end up in a peds field

I'm not looking forward to actually having to pay attention in class next year.

 Yeah. The fact that I like micro and related stuff so much makes me wonder how I will really like surgery.

Definitely. I'm looking forward to anatomy, though.

gettin antsy for June 11... 1 month baby 1 month!!!!!!

Is that when you quit work?

Sweet. Except mine will be in the shape of a Flying V. 👍

I just told the AMCAS thread people to chill out with the myriad of tiny questions they have. Sometimes you just need to make a decision on something and live with it. After all, we will be doing that many times during our careers.

Floaties!!!

I never realized until recently how many don't know how to swim, like I've met several people in the past week.

I like this idea of a shape for your pool 🙂

And about people freakin out about the AMCAS... yea if it's little things, pick a choice and roll w/ it yo - AMCAS really wasn't as hard as people said it was 👍

ahhh it's nice to look back at those times and say "thank god I'm not doin that again"
