Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Floaties!!!

I never realized until recently how many don't know how to swim, like I've met several people in the past week.

yea I'm surprised too... swimming is such a cool/important skill (my opinion of course). Then again, most of my friends are from my undergrad - Cornell. We are required to pass a swim test or (if you fail) take a swimming class before we are allowed to graduate 😀

For all the ninjas out there looking for place to grab a bite to eat without being judged.

That's interesting/weird.

BTW, is Cornell as hard as I hear? Like with grade deflation and stuff?

Utah trimmed the lead down to 6 but is now trailing by 20. :smack:

they got so screwed losing okur and basically losing kirilenko this year.... i feel bad. they play the lakers well but just not good enough...

the jazz are sick they will break through soon just like suns did this year against SA

The saying goes that Cornell's the easiest ivy to get into and the hardest to get out of. I didn't think it was that easy to get into... but it definitely was damn hard to get through 🙂

Then again, I did engineering. Engineering's difficult as is, but I can definitely say that cornell in general was really hard. But that could just be a personal opinion. Then again, I've been to Columbia too... and I'm not trying to be a douche w/ the comparisons or anything - but Cornell was a lot harder

Cornell Engineering definitely had grade deflation; so did quite a few classes in the arts school. They definitely make you work your butt off. This is why @ Cornell it ain't the freshman 15, it's the freshman -15

Wow, that actually sounds like a really good idea. My school should adopt that policy!

What they need to do is make sure they're not the 4 or 5 seed every year so they can catch the Lakers in the conference finals.

That's funny. I didn't recognize your new avatar, then I was like; oh float on, long time no see.

Wow where did you come from (as in I haven't seen you around that much either, not where did you actually come from)? Are you c/o 2014?

Even if you don't like sports, you have to say that the 25.3 average margin of victory by the Magic over the Hawks is incredible. It is officially the most dominating series victory in playoff history.

to be fair, Cornell = super duper awesome. I'd love to go back there again... but their med school is in NYC 😡

why don't u like nyc?

and I'm sure it is awesome... just jealous that I don't know how to swim haha

been in/around NYC for ~14 years. I feel it's the kinda place you live in for a while, but then move on from. You live in cramped, expensive spaces and the environment in general isn't great for long term living (again; my opinion). I'm just not a fan of huge cities - maybe because I've been around them all my life?

I've done my time in the city... give me a suburb next to a city please! :meanie:

But for now, I'll settle for some sleep! G'nite all. And P.S. anyone seem sammy around? She's been MIA for a while! Well I guess she's been busy graduating and all that eh?

Negative. co 16. I'm just lurking. I am officially bored with "I got a C, my life is ruined," "is it ok to go to a cc," and "does prestige matter." Plus I have always wanted to hang out with the cool kids.

I am a big fan of NYC: great good, great entertainment. You can never get bored. Then again, the longest I've lived there has been...a couple of days.

edit: *food not good. Somehow I don't think good is very tasty.

Haha, same here. But too many distractions entertainment-wise in NYC and LA. Glad I'm not going there for med school.

I wouldn't put it above one of you to eat this

Wild Turkey + Bacon = Wild Turbacon Sandwich

seriously, the creativity that oozes from that site is just ridiculous

i think the thread that is most likely to overtake the '14 thread is the AMCAS 2011 questions thread

👍 this. For the edification of the 2015ers and beyond lurking (or not so lurking) on this thread:

I feel very fortunate to be going to med school on the military's dime -- my parents flat out refused to give me info for the FAFSA (filled it out b4 I found out about HPSP) saying they had no funds to provide and that they wanted no part in financing my graduate education. Considering they're shouldering my undergrad by themselves, I thought it completely appropriate.

However, by not providing that info, I was automatically disqualified from all institution-based financial aid. My future home is not a private institution -- and other public schools had asked for parental financial aid as well. My annual finaid package looked something like this:

CoA: 65k
Subsidized Loans: 8500
Unsubsidized Loans: everything else plus your soul and first born.

At other schools, it looked something like this:

CoA: 65k unless you do the rural practice program and sell your soul to the boonies.
CoA (rural): 23k
Subsidized Loans: 8500
Unsubsidized Loans: everything else and, if you do the rural program, either/or on the first born/soul

That's about what I got even though I included my parent's info. I would do the military thing, but the thing is I don't actually want to be in the military.

i need to buy a new laptop

Me, too.

Agreed. I know 2014ers (not us really) had some questions last year about AMCAS, but were there this many? And this many of such a trivial/pointless nature? These 2015ers need to learn how to make their own decisions and stop overthinking things. I'm doing my best to help answer questions, but my God. :bang:

ewwwww macs

edit: actually if i got a really good deal on one i might consider it

yeah i got a school discount of $150 on this one. i've been a pc guy my whole life, but now that macs can run windows...

That's a thought, actually. How much did that run you?

$1350, but that includes the 3-year protection plan.

on the expensive side, yeah, but hassle free. one less thing to worry about in the next 4 years.

That's almost twice my budget.

Do you think that Windows on a Mac will eliminate the virus issues? Or does the fact that it's a Windows OS still create the same problems even though it's being run on a Mac?

blob what do you think about Wigginton for Hammels? Pedie's friend offered it to me.
i'd probably do it. i just looked up hamels' stats and i think he's got an abnormally high homerun/flyball rate that's making him look worse than he actually is. he'll get better (/luckier)

don't you work for msft? lol

He will give me Ricky Romero, Hamels, Mike Pelfrey, or Doug Fister.

I think I want either Romero or Hamels, but Pelfrey and Fister have legit ERAs (but maybe not stable).

Thoughts?

This. I think the whole no-virus thing on a Mac is just because it's generally not worth the effort to write one because the user-base is so much smaller.

Actually met, I looked it up and it looks like Macs run windows through OSX, meaning it probably would not affect your entire system. The downside though is that Windows would probably be slower than if you were to run it on its own, since you are running two OS's at the same time and using RAM for both.
